Maybe i took it up wrong but in the initial announcement from the SGB site it seems to state that the £79 premium annual subscription would give you access to nearest the pin challenges on 20 WGT courses.....

"Customers can opt to upgrade to the SkyTrak Premium (Game Improvement) for a fee of £79 per annum....... The SkyTrak Premium option also unlocks the fun side of SkyTrak – giving full access to all of its in-built challenges and mini-games.
Golfers can play the 9-Shot Closest To The Hole Challenge at Kiawah Island from WGT Golf, as well as a further 20 courses including St Andrews, Pebble Beach, Bandon Dunes, Celtic Manor, Pinehurst No.2, Royal St George’s and Chambers Bay."

On the hiseman press release though it seems to state that the £79 only gives you access to a 9 hole closest to the pin challenge on Kiawah Island and there would be an additional annual fee to play the closest to the pin challenge on the other courses....

"The SkyTrak Premium subscription also unlocks the fun side of SkyTrak – giving full access to all of its in-built challenges and mini-games.

For example, SkyTrak Premium also contains a spectacular 9-Shot Closest To The Hole Challenge, played over 9 different holes of the Kiawah Island Ocean Course. In addition to the included 9-Shot Closest To The Hole Challenge at Kiawah Island from WGT Golf, golfers can also pay a further annual subscription to play a different 9-Shot Closest To The Hole Challenge at each of WGT Golf’s 20 high-definition golf courses, including St Andrews, Pebble Beach, Bandon Dunes, Celtic Manor, Pinehurst No.2, Royal St George’s and Chambers Bay."

I plan to buy one of these, but don't see the point in buying right now as there is no early purchase discount incentive to do so and it is not clear how limited the 'basic' launch monitor data is, if you don't shell out €100 or so each year for the full data. Then there is talk of a further annual subscription!

At least if there is a PC version to be released this autumn, I don't have to upgrade to another expensive iPad, though my iPad4 may work with the SkyTrak.

Slightly surprised that it needs 10ft between the SkyTrak and the net (if using it in a confined/sensitive space, as opposed to a driving range or field). I realise the Doppler radar devices need distance but thought optical units needed less distance to operate sucessfully.

Distance to net per SkyTrak FAQ:

I don't see distance to net stated. It states you need 10' length and 10' width and ceiling height varies. The only minimum distance to net would be that you don't hit it on your follow through. FWIW, i have 7.5' to my screen. Keep in mind, this is only a suggestion, all distances will vary based on individual height, swing type and length of clubs.

The FAQ 'How much space do i need to set up the SkyTrak indoors' shows 10ft from back of mat to front of net, but users experience here suggests that is conservative.

Fully agree with you. I was all ready to order today, but then to be told have to wait until mid november for delivery, and with no real clear subscription plan details other than paying £79 to play 9 hole closest to the pin, I think Im just gonna hold off until every option is fully detailed and then see where things are.

That 10 feet (3m) on the skytrack site includes where you're stood, so estimate 1m for standing/ mat, arms go out about 750mm and 1.25m for the club. That seems about right and what I have.

From the front of my SkyTrak unit to the net is only five feet and there are no issues whatsoever. My driver brushes past the net and misses by a few inches. I could have it longer but this way I minimise those high lofted wedge shots from going over the top of my NetReturn.

Yeah, that was my worry if using real golf balls in the back garden. Could do a bit of damage to the neighbours property or car, etc. with a real golf ball hit full blooded :-)

I guess SkyTrak are being conservative, but in practice the closer you are to the net, the less risk of errant golf balls missing the net.

Was seconds away from getting one shipped over, but just cant do it with they way things are at the moment, too much uncertainty in the sim option pricing, am definitely just gonna wait it out and see what happens. Am suffering major envy for you guys up and running but want to see how things play out.

In other semi related news have been told by SkyCaddieUK that UK units with come with a standard 1 year warranty, instead of 6 months, and that they will not honour warranties on imported units in the UK, guessing theyll have to go back to supplier in country of original order (US?)

Pre Orders now available on the SkyCaddie Skytrak UK site https://ukshop.skygolf.com/p-176-sky...onitor-eu.aspx

Not able to order the GI package as of yet, apparently the multiple subscription options, along with UK app will appear after next update

I thought EU Regulations would apply to the UK unit so that the minimum legal warranty (electrical/electronics) would be 2 years, not 6 months or 1 year, etc.

You're right. Free of charge, two year warranty (legal guarantee).

That wasn't adapted into UK regulations I don't believe, although as you say you can challenge under that EU regulations, although I believe the burden of proof falls down to you to prove its a fault not due to wear and tear/use after 6 months. 12 months seems to be a standard UK warranty on most things here

Either way its better than the standard 6 month offering on the US unit where the extra 6 months costs a further $99

A plastic box taking pictures I can't see that breaking tbh. Unless you smash it with a ball or drop it but that ain't gonna be covered either.
At the end of the day my imported one cost me just over £1100 with the 1yr game improvement. That's a massive saving that can go toward screens/computer/sim software.
Understand that import is not for everyone tho.

Thats very true Mr Hogan, just putting info out there, and yes agree its a big saving and you got a fantastic deal

My reason for not importing was mainly because right now the product isnt what i want it to be, and until it is/ know what is available/cost just didnt want to spend the money. However for infos sake it is good to know that should something go wrong at least a UK one will be covered.

Thats not to say that once all the options are announced it may still well be a better option to import ( as is often the case thank to good old rip off britain)

Electronics quite often fail within the first 3 months or even damaged in transit. If they survive the 3 month period, then they should be good for a while.

I have to send my new Laptop back to the manufacturer because the TrackPad doesn't work and never seemed to work from day one.

Don't know how vulnerable the unit's optical calibration is, but as you say, it probably isn't going to be covered by warranty if you smash a ball into it.

That price is very good. However, an import at current US pricing plus postage and insurance, plus say another 23% UK VAT & Import Duty brings it into line or more expensive than the proposed UK price of UKP1695. It depends what you have to pay for postage from the US and whether the courier stings you for a service charge while they handle it for the UK Customs.

Of course you may be lucky and have it bypass the UK Customs, but it's not something I would bank on.

If you knew someone in the US who could ship it to you just get them to put a value of $300 or something on the customs form and then you'll have little to no customs or VAT to pay.

With the price difference you could go to the US, get a free holiday and bring it back in your suitcase and avoid the customs.

I usually hate doing stuff like that though and prefer the just buy from the UK where possible, even if sometimes its a little more expensive. I expected the skytrak to be a little more expensive, maybe £100-150, but with the difference as it stands it certainly would make you think twice about getting one shipped from the US instead.

I dont know how much of the difference is down to skytrak, down to the retailers here, or down the revenue charges though but the saving could pay for an ipad, or go towards a projector or impact screen etc...

Hopefully they'll have a discount for pre-orders on their site though, similar to what they got in the US to overcome this problem.
