  • SkyTrak and TGC - Course List

Not sure where the posts I made were moved to, so I hope I'm duplicating my post?
Because I am a skytrak owner looking at TGC, I figured that Skytrak for TGC was the correct thread. Maybe I needed to create new thread?

The last post I had made was this:

Based on the TGC tour and corresponding events, very few courses actually match up with what the pro's play.

Is this because those courses aren't available?

TGCTours is the online home of competitive video game golf for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation users around the globe.

Also, is there a way to search online for specific courses?

I'm just trying to due my due diligence as a potential buyer of TGC.

luv2golf we recommend you get a copy of TGC on Steam (PC), PS4 or XBox1 and try it all out..
You can search for courses in the game. Also many active developers here: http://thegolfclubgame.com

We hope to welcome you to the TGC community soon!

Thanks for the update, I feel that many of us here would like to know what courses are available.

Is there a list of true rendering of European Tour and PGA Tour stops? Sorry for all the questions, TGC is new to me, I've messed around with PG and played E6 on my friends sim.

Also check out TGCtours.com. There is a course listing section that shows many popular courses with reviews. You can filter by real vs fictional ones. Most have fictional names (none of the courses are licensed). The courses are all amateur creations, but many are quite good. Probably every PGA and European Tour course is represented. There are thousands and thousands of courses in TGC.

You guys realize there are 70,000 courses. Too many to list. Yes almost every PGA and European tour course is there. If not you can create that course.

I guess what I'm asking is if I type in Royal County Down or Royal Portrush, will they be there? If they are there, how true to the actual courses are they?

This is important to me, I travel alot and play alot of courses around the country and soon to be going to Ireland in May.

Also, those two courses aren't on E6 or PG. Definitely course selection will be huge weighted factor in deciding on which Sim to choose. I was anti TGC, but I'm starting to see some benefit.

Last week I went through the PGA schedule starting in Oct and going thru until May and I found all the courses on the schedule but 2. I have not played them as of yet but they are there. Or at least a course with the same name is there.

Is there anyway without me purchasing the software to see the full course list or search it? Also, seeing as all these courses are "user generated" is there anyway to confirm that it's the actual course and not just some made up design?

Mostly, I'm looking for these courses - Real and not Fiction:
                  • Royal County Down – opened in 1889, this legendary course is consistently ranked among the top-5 courses in the world, host of multiple international championships. Guests on this trip will play this course twice!
                  • Royal Portrush – the only Irish course to host the British Open! Home of major champions Graeme McDowell and Darren Clarke.
                  • Old Course at Ballybunion – legendary and historic, ranked No. 8 by Golfweek in Great Britain & Ireland, with Tom Watson as a past Club Captain.
                  • Old Course at Lahinch – Old Tom Morris and Alister MacKenzie amongst the designers, ranked No. 11 by Golfweek.
                  • Waterville Golf Links – a top-5 course in Ireland, first opened in 1889 and renovated in 1973, with Payne Stewart as a past Club Captain.
                  • Tralee Golf Club – Arnold Palmer’s first European design, a links course at its finest.
                  • Trump International Golf Links at Doonbeg – designed by Greg Norman, a marvelous links layout on the Atlantic Ocean.
                  • Old Head Golf Links – one of the most spectacular and recognized links settings in Ireland.

Are all TGC courses designed by individuals? Or has TGC designed X amount of courses and the rest are all done by individuals?

They did a handful and the other 99%+ are done by users. However, the best courses are user created and people spent an incredible amount of time on them... Months and months.

There is no way to determine if the course is accurate. But like stated above, there are a lot of good designers out there. They spend 400 to 500 hours making a course accurate. they use google earth and toggle back and forth between the course and the map to make the fairways exactly the same size and the greens accurate. But just to show you how much time they spend I know a guy who has published his course 22 times. I played the first publish with him one night. Its his hometown course and I thought it was spectacular. but he has found little changes to green slope and bunker depth and just little things that unless you play it every day you would never notice. Now with that said I made a course near me that I have always wanted to play. I used google maps to build it. I have never published it yet because I wanted to play it (for real) before I publish it. I used pictures I could find to get my bunker depths and green slopes and other details. To date I have only played it on the PC version. But just 2 weeks ago I got the chance to go play it. Dacotah Ridge golf course. And let me tell you, everything I have heard is true. It is without a doubt the best course in our area. And what I created just using what pictures and google earth I had to use really was pretty close to accurate. I still have to deepen some bunkers and put more slope on some greens and make hole 9 way more downhill than I have it. But without ever being there I think it turned out very nice.

So when I play a course I don't think about "is this green really that big or small"? Or is that bunker really that deep? I am just happy that someone spent the time to try and make the course be as accurate as they can. And once you try your hand at designing you will understand the painstaking hours it takes to build a course. Even a crapy course takes 20 to 30 hours. Thats if you want it to be even close to the same distances. When some of these designers send us the course files so we can change the tee boxes so the course is simulator friendly. They do it out of the kindness of their heart. And just moving tee boxes takes 10 hours. So please if you do happen to get the chance to play some of these courses in real life and then come back and play it on TGC and there are significant differences. PLEASE be gentle on the subject. Most of these guys are nice enough to send us these files to change and make them playable on the sim. And the last thing we need is a bad rep for bashing courses. You have a chance to rate the course after you play it. And if these courses get a bad rating no one will play them. That will be enough. And please before you go giving a bad review on a course just try to build one yourself. You will soon understand that even a crappy course is still better than most of us can do.

Now go out and get the STEAM version and start building your courses. Maybe this winter we can have a hometown course contest and if they ever get the scramble mode we can get us some teams figured out and have some fun matches.

That is a good explanation. At least for me it puts TGC for sim play in a different light then it was before.
I have only tried it casually on the Steam version incl. designing my home course.
Lost patience with those consol controls that had been PCfied. I know it's much better now but I have not given it a second chance.

Using a game controller is much better than using a mouse for designing I use an xbox 360 controller. I have heard that the xbox one controller gives you a little better control but I am ok with what I have. But as far as the controls go I don't know as they have changed. they just added a bunch of stuff. And a ton of stuff that makes it easier like walls, fences, cart paths. Those things used to take hours to do. Building a quality course takes time but if you watch some of the video's on the HB site it becomes much easier. Those guys know their way around those controls and can save you a ton of time if you watch and mimic what they do. The courses you create become so much better than just letting the software create the hole. And there are a ton of the designers that share their secrets on youtube video's. We are lucky to have one of the top designers here on this site. Craig118 has created some of the best courses on TGC and if you get a chance you have to play my favortie Pine Valley for Protee. and I am pretty sure he designed the course we just played for our summer tour Whistling Straights. He posts pictures as he is designing the courses. And you can look for yourself but attention to detail is second nature for this guy. We are lucky to have him.

Oh and by the way I just got notification that Hazeltine Ryder cup edition has been shortened for sim play. I talked one of the designers into shortening the course for sim play. When a course is created on Xbox,PS4, we PC users can not edit the course. Only courses designed on a PC are able to be edited if they send us the file. But again I am no expert in this area so my comments here are up for debate.
