    Anyone tried to fix the Skyrtak alignment?

    Hi.

    I am one of those who has to point the left edge (right handed) of the Skytrak to the center of the screen, ie. it the ball flies right if its aligned straight like on the rail road track. I am not shooting right, Im am a 10 handicapper and I alight the Skytrak by doing 10m chips to the center of the screen and then manually move it until it replicates how I see the ball hit the screen.

    Its like the sensors/cameras on the inside are a few degrees off. I have seen a few posts about the Skytrak being off, and people just go with it... but my little ocd is pissed about it

    Anyone opened their Skytrak and fixed this? I would think it would be possible to align the inside a little.

    I am also curious about this. I have the same problem, only mine reads EVERYTHING left. I can hit the far right side of my impact screen and if it’s aligned straight, it will still show the ball going left. It’s so frustrating I’m contemplating getting rid of it and getting a BLP instead.

      I built an alignment device for my Skytrak. In the photo, Point “A” is my golf ball target, which is a black string hanging from the ceiling tied to a fishing weight. Point B is where my Skytrak incorrectly points if I use alignment mode. Point C is where it should point to be accurate.

      The device quickly lets you make sure Skytrak is aligned correctly. To use it, place a laser pointer (I use a laser tape measure from Home Depot) against the edge of a smaller board “D” attached to the main board. Hold Skytrak against the edge of the device’s main board. Rotate the entire unit and Skytrak (while keeping Skytrak against the edge) until the laser points at the target (point A).

      The key is initially mounting board D to the main board, since the edge of D is not parallel to the edge of the main board. The first step is hitting several balls to determine where Skytrak needs to point to be accurate. I hit several medium iron shots at half speed, watching where the ball hit relative to the black target string and compared that to the horizontal angle displayed by the shot readout. Initially, when a shot hit the string, Skytrak said it was left by a few degrees. I adjusted Skytrak so it pointed to the right a little bit and continued dialing it in until shots hitting the string showed as on line in the Skytrak display.

      Once Skytrak is square, you can build the device. With one screw (so it can rotate), mount board D on the main board so the laser held next to D is the same distance from Skytrak as the golf ball would be at set up (i.e., the distance the Skytrak red dot is from the Skytrak). Next, place the main board edge against Skytrak while firmly pressing down on Skytrak to make sure Skytrak doesn’t move. Now turn on the laser pointer and see where it hits the wall. Rotate board D (not the main board or Skytrak) until the laser points at the target string. You can then set a second screw (E) to lock in this angle. I used a clamp to make sure it didn’t move while drilling/screwing.

      At this point the device is ready to use to quickly align your Skytrak. Simply follow the instructions above, and when the laser points at the target line you are good to go!

        Its probably just quicker to chip a few shots and hit the skytrak a little until its straight. But thanks for the info, but it does not answer the question if anyone has tried to fix their units.

      There is no fixing this. Skytrak has never commented or acknowledged this issue, and I am guessing the reps are told not to. My guess is that it is NOT caused by internal misalignment (no way the sensors could be off more than a fraction of a degree), but rather the fact that Skytrak units are software calibrated (to save money). I am guessing that a corrective factor is sent to image engine somewhere along the way that is used to calculate HLA ... for that particular unit. On some units, the calibration cannot be zeroed, so it needs to sit at an angle. This is pure conjecture on my part, but is the best explanation I can think of with regards to this mystery.

      Many users do have perfect alignment to edge of unit, while others don't. But no worries, aligning trial and error is just fine, and the unit is accurate. It just looks a little weird, but if you can live with that no problem. A

        Agreed that the alignment is off and yes, my alignment device above fixes this 100%. I have been using it for several years and it only take 5 seconds to align it perfectly every time I move my SkyTrak to a different spot on the hitting mat. I admit it's a nerdy solution, but it works flawlessly as opposed to having to hit several shots to calibrate the aim each time, which would take a long time to get exactly right. If someone wants one, let me know and we can work out a deal.
