  • SkyTrak and WGT

    Hi all,

I have seen many people asking about skytrak and WTG and it seems like that the people who are beta testing TGC and E6 have never
played or tested WTG. It seems like nobody in this forum has tested it. There is no videos ... nothing. But from what I keep hearing
skytrak is coming out with WTG first...? Is there anybody who has some more detailed info or talked to somebody who tested it ?
I'm only interested cause I'm pretty sure it will be the cheapest of all versions and to test it out it would be that big of an investment.
I own a skytrak since about 5 month and can't wait for course play. The problem is I'm on the road a lot so I will not be able to play
on a regular basis. That's why TGC ,even that it seems to be the best choice, doesn't make much sense if it's going to be a monthly
prescription. Really hope to get some infos or even videos about skytrak with WTG.

  • I’m giving up on WGT and have now moved to e6 1.6. After using WGT for a few months, I felt the following were top 5 MAJOR detractors:

-Given the camera angle, I struggled to determine if hook and slice algos were exaggerated or it was alignment. Either way it did NOT match real world ball flight or Skytrak application (given my set up with a tv on the side, very hard to overcome)

-Lack of multi-player (really the biggest reason for me)

-Putting and approach/chipping hold greens, not an easy achievement, can be frustrating (even if you change green speed)

    -Cannot turn wind OFF

-Not aware of any type of development cycle on the horizon, explored the net for hours, including WGT own forum.

    -Limited customizations

On the flip side, if you are starting out or do not want to invest in a PC, at a cheaper subscription price, it represents tremendous value!

    • I just purchased a used Sky Trak. I'm not very tech savvy. What's the best hardware to purchase to play the WGT courses? My current computer and Ipad are too old.

pretty certain wgt is ipad only. So the latest model would probably be the best.

    • It’s for IOS only. I run it on my iPhone 7 and it runs great!

      • I have just set up my SkyTrak simulator and am hitting into The Net Return with the new iPad. I really have to say that so far I am very impressed. I don't have space in my house to set up a proper simulation room so had to set something up on my rooftop balcony. I am all Mac at home so don't have a PC laptop to try other sim software but given the portability, I figure the iPad is a better option when the weather is bad and I need to go to the driving range. For my setup and for what it is, I have really enjoyed WGT. The graphics are quite good and I find that the data is quite accurate. I get very similar numbers that I do with the SkyTrak (but also factoring for wind and terrain). With the full courses, random play, challenges, etc., I think it is well worth the cost. I also like the fact that you can play in the ranked and practice mode. With practice mode, you can take mulligans and really work on your shots and strategy trying different shots.

For putting and chipping, it must have gotten much better because I find it to be quite accurate as well. I have gotten used to the chipping and for putting, I generally accept strokes if it is reasonable but will try the put if the recommendation is 3 strokes or if I think there is a chance to do better (i.e., 2 strokes at 15 feet or less).

I haven't been playing enough to unlock all of the courses but believe there is enough here to keep me busy and entertained for a long time.

        • Agreed on the issue with chipping. It’s sometimes impossible to hold a green with short chips. I’m looking to getting TCG2019 once I can get the right PC in place.

          • Has ANYONE managed to VS a live opponent with WGT? When I do it it just keeps looking and looking and looking for someone but never succeeds! Very disappointing.

            • I posted this in the computer systems forum but thought maybe I'd have more luck in the WGT section. I'm assuming most of you WGT players are using an iPad.

I just got my Skytrak this week and I picked up an old iPad Air to use with Skytrak / WGT.

I bought an Apple lightning to HDMI adapter (for ONLY $53 SMH) so I could connect the iPad to my projector. So the iPad connects to the adapter (via lightning) and the adapter then connects to the HDMI cable which then connects to the projector.

The image projects just fine, but there is no sound. If I unplug the adapter, the sound immediately plays through the iPad speaker just fine. Plug the adapter back in and the sound disappears (but the image shows back up on the impact screen just fine).

There are no speakers in my projector. I have used a PC laptop to watch sports on the projector and the sound plays through the laptop with no issues (HDMI cable plugs directly into computer; no adapter needed). But for some reason it won't play through the iPad.

I'm guessing the adapter (and HDMI cord) is sending the audio to the projector and because there are no speakers in the projector, the audio is just sort of trapped there with no outlet to play through. But how can I just get the audio to play through the iPad speaker? So basically, I need to project the image onto the screen but have the audio play through the iPad speaker.

I am not an Apple/iOS user (only bought one because WGT is iOS-only). What am I doing wrong? Is everyone else using the lighting-to-HDMI adapter as well? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Mazter ChiLL --- So does the soundbar work with the iPad as well? The audio cable would have to plug into the iPad and extend all the way to behind the screen?

Are you able to get sound through the iPad speaker?

The audio cable run from my projector direct to my soundbar. As for the rest of the connection, it's the same as you with an apple lightning to HDMI adaptor. If i disconnect the audio cable from my projector, the sound will come from the projector speaker, not the iPad. Since you don't have speaker in your projector, you should have an audio-out to plug a speaker. Cause with your setup, as mine, the apple lightning adapter will send the image signal and also send the audio signal to the projector. Hope it will help you

Yeah that makes sense now. I actually submitted my question to an Apple help forum and was told (by multiple people there) that it's not possible to play the audio through the iPad while projecting the image onto the screen.

Frustrating considering that adapter cost $53 and it's really only doing half the job and now I'll have to buy a speaker and have it mounted somewhere. Also frustrating that it's such a simple thing to do with a PC but for some reason it's not possible with the "cutting edge technology" of Apple lol. But I digress.

In any case, appreciate the help

            • For all the LEFT Handed SkyTrak and WGT users out there - I just purchased SkyTrak and upgraded to the Performance Improvement package. Some nice add-ons, but I've also been interested in the World Golf Tour (WGT) integration. I've read many online instructions on how to pair the SkyTrak hardware to the WGT app on my iPad and it seems to all work, EXCEPT that I cannot for the life of me figure out how to switch the orientation to LEFT hand.

In the WGT app, my Avatar shows that I'm a lefty and when I launch my Skytrak app, I'm also lefty (I know you can't have both open at the same time). However, in WGT app the red dot/laser is always pointed in the wrong direction (Right handed orientation) while in the Skytrak app it would be show lefty. Am I doing something wrong? Is there some thing else that I need to change? Sorry if this has been covered in an earlier thread.

The only thing I can think of is to make sure you close out the Skytrak app once you open the WGT app. The Skytrak app may be over-riding the WGT settings. I am not a lefty myself, but that was the first thing that came to mind because they say to close out Skytrak prior to teeing off in WGT.

(Although curiously, last night I forgot to close out Skytrak and played a full 18 with both apps open and it worked just fine with nothing being different, so who the hell knows. But it's worth a try).

Edit: I read your post again and saw that you mentioned the part about not having both apps open when you play. So my response may not be helpful after all because it looks like you have already tried that.

Thanks 3on3putt. Yes, I tried to make sure that I closed Skytrak (hard close) before I launched WGT - I can't run both at the same time so it's interesting that you can! Who knows. I also even tried to delete the app and then reinstall it. One question for you... does it matter which account name you use for WGT and Skytrak - do the user names need to match? I don't think so, but I'm getting desperate !

My account name for Skytrak is different than my WGT name (my Skytrak user name was not available for WGT so I had to choose a different one).

Have you tried hitting a right handed shot in WGT just to see if it registers and advances the ball in the game? That will at least tell you that the Skytrak is indeed communicating with WGT.

And are you connected to WGT in network mode? (with both devices connected to the same network)

In regards to having the apps open or closed, try leaving both apps open all the way until you get to the first tee and are ready to hit your first shot. Then close out Skytrak. You may be closing out Skytrak too early(??)

I got my Skytrak last week and just got WGT a couple days ago. I've played 2 rounds with it so far so I'm still learning the ropes as well.

              • 3on3putt - thanks for your message. I wanted to follow your suggestion of trying ST with WGT with RIGHT hand to see if the ST launch monitor was even communicating with WGT and I ran in to some more problems - now my ST Launch Monitor will not even emit an red laser light when connected to WGT in either Left or Right orientation.

I made sure I didn't have SkyTrak app and WGT app at the same time. Turned on the SkyTrak Launch Monitor - lights green, yellow, red. Start WGT and it asks me to connect to SkyTrak Launch Monitor. I agree and looks like it connects. All lights on SkyTrak Launch Monitor are green. Looking good! But no red laser light.

Then I go into Options --> Devices and while I am in WGT Mobile mode and it shows that the SkyTrak Launch Monitor is "Off" (grayed out) even though all lights show green. I toggle "On" and exit. It says it Saves and exits out. I then want to doublecheck and go back in to Options --> Devices. It shows that the Launch Monitor is "Off" again!

It gets even more strange. The device shows "Off" in the WGT Mobile mode no matter how many times I try to turn it "On". But then I exit out of the *Mobile* mode in to the *regular* mode and go to Options --> Devices and the SkyTrak Launch Monitor shows "On"!! It shows "On" in regular mode but not in Mobile mode.

Very confused now. Can anyone help?

Did you ever find a solution? I'm a new ST owner and fellow lefty and I'm finding the same exact issue. ST support has not offered anything helpful and I've tried twice now to reach out to WGT support and nothing back. I just want to play WGT using my ST but its not letting me play left handed. Found your question from April and curious if you found a solution?

So all 3 lights were green but there was no laser dot ..... is it possible that the dot was actually coming out of the other side (the left-handed side) and you just didn't see it because you were looking for it on the righty side? In other words, did you perhaps fix the problem but didn't realize it? Probably a long shot but worth asking.

I don't ever go into mobile mode on WGT. I experienced my first Skytrak weirdness the other night but thanks to Seth on this forum I was able to navigate through that. I played Erin Hills last night and here's what I did.

                1. Turned Skytrak unit on
                2. Turned on iPad
                3. Opened up WGT app
                4. The app asked me if I wanted to continue with Skytrak enabled. Clicked yes.
                5. Took me to the page where you select either "continue" or "mobile mode." Clicked continue.
                6. Went straight to the course selection page and teed off.

So I never even opened the Skytrak app. Previously I was opening the Skytrak app and then WGT and then fiddling with different connection options and then closing Skytrak and I think all those moving pieces tripped me up the other night somehow. But if you don't want to warm up on the Skytrak range before you play, don't even bother opening the Skytrak app. Just go straight into WGT and it should automatically recognize your Skytrak. Also, don't mess around with mobile mode and going back and forth.

That's all I've got to offer. Keep in mind I've had my Skytrak for literally 8 days now so you're receiving technical support from a total newb lol.

                • New to SkyTrak. I’m doing a setup with impactscreen and projector and also a TV across from me (while hitting) to read statistics. So here’s the question - can I even do that? Meaning can I show the golf course/hitting range/etc on the projector and then use the TV to show ball and flight statistics at the same time? If so, can I do the same while using a golf software like WGT?

                  thanks in advance!!

Your ball flight statistics will be shown on the same screen as the hole. In WGT, the numbers appear along the bottom of the screen.

If you want to broadcast the image on the TV in addition to your impact screen, you can do that. But it would be the same image on both screens.

                    • Thanks for clarification. I was hoping I could use the other screen to compile shot data real time while continuing to hit, without having to leave the game/challenge/hitting range/whatever that I would be currently playing.

You mean like viewing all of your shots for the round in one place as you play? To my knowledge that is not possible, at least not with WGT. On WGT the data for your previous shot will stay on the screen until you hit the next shot.

On the skytrak range, you don't have to exit your practice session to view all of your shots. Just one click and you can bring up your shot history for that session. One more click and you can return to hitting again.
