  • SkyTrak and WGT

    Hi all,

I have seen many people asking about skytrak and WTG and it seems like that the people who are beta testing TGC and E6 have never
played or tested WTG. It seems like nobody in this forum has tested it. There is no videos ... nothing. But from what I keep hearing
skytrak is coming out with WTG first...? Is there anybody who has some more detailed info or talked to somebody who tested it ?
I'm only interested cause I'm pretty sure it will be the cheapest of all versions and to test it out it would be that big of an investment.
I own a skytrak since about 5 month and can't wait for course play. The problem is I'm on the road a lot so I will not be able to play
on a regular basis. That's why TGC ,even that it seems to be the best choice, doesn't make much sense if it's going to be a monthly
prescription. Really hope to get some infos or even videos about skytrak with WTG.

  • Well I updated, didn't see any new add-ons. I did get that add after my shot when the score card posts. (again, not complaining, but yes it's new). Can't see my shot details unless you get the replay option (not that often for me........LOL!!!).

I have noticed that I'm not connecting as easily as I was before the update. Anyone else?

        • Any update on whether you have to move your aim point on the game itself to adjust for wind or by just swinging right or left of the target line using the Skytrak?

Surely you have to adjust your aim in WGT otherwise your just adjusting your swing path in relation to ST causing pulls/pushes

I tried it out today and the answer is most definitely yes you need to aim or adjust the target to properly adjust for wind and green slope.

When I tried it initially I purposefully aimed over to the far edge of the screen and took a normal shot. The ball went exactly where I aimed it.

Since WGT is not a 3D game, there is no way to adjust the camera angle to make the shot look straight. Bottom line the shot is hit where it's aimed. And sometimes the default aim point is not straight with respect to where straight is on your range / Skytrak.

          • This WGT progress is exciting! I am all set up with WGT and Skytrak but am only able to play challenges (closest to the pin). I've read the forum and I apologize if I've missed the answer to this question, but is full course play available on WGT right now? When I click on each course the "play 18 holes" section is grayed out and says coming soon. Thanks for the help.

              • When I first saw the WGT game it looked really lame. Still pictures of fixed view of a course where a ball is rendered as it passes along the course.
But that initial impression is dead wrong. This thing is way much more advanced than that. The textures used are indeed from actual course photos but that makes it look very realistic. The fixed view is still kind of lame but the ground and all obstacles are actually modeled and the ball interacts with them in a realistic way. E.g. if you hit a tree the ball will react as expected. Same with the green, if you hit a down slope it will role faster and farther.
This can obviously not be compared with TGC where the whole thing is a 3D world and you can move the view in real time in any way.
I can see why they did it like this. It can run in any browser that has WEBGL support even on slow hardware. Meaning that they render the scene once and then only spend CPU and GPU time on physics and rendering the ball.
Assuming that the ball flight model is accurate (I have no idea or opinion at this point) and we can play all courses with the ST unit like you can in the ipad game. Then this is a really interesting alternative to a serious simulator application.
The remaining important piece of info is the cost. If they price it like a serious sim, then I predict it will die a quick death as soon as there is any kind of competition.
                Some interesting times ahead ...

                • Guys I got one more question I'm hoping you can answer. I know that TGC calculates penalties for sand, rough or bush in there sim version. What about WTG ? I hope they do that as well right !?

I have seen no penalty thus far. The penalty does exist in the manual (touch) / standard version of the game. I expect this will come as a % hit on the ball speed and spin once the final version is released

                • I think i would be very important. I'm playing the normal (not sim) Version too and the way they do it there is pretty realistic. And also very important for me is that they will have a multiplayer in the sim Version. So you can have a nice Golf Day or evening with friends in Winter. I know e6 has it and I think i was reading something with guest Players at tgc as well.

                  • In WGT, the equipment you use is supposed to have effects on distance and accuracy. It's part of their game, that's why the upgrades are there. Has this been disabled when using SkyTrak for input?

Yes, per SkyTrak_Seth this will no influence on ballflight (I asked the same questions a couple of days ago).

                    • Hi all,

I am fairly new to the forum, but a friend of mine has been a member for some time now. Anyway, I need your help. I have followed all of the instructions to connect the SKYTRAK to the WGT app, but it just hangs at the connecting screen. I have also tried the various fixes mentioned in these posts, but same result. The lights on the SKYTRAK all turn green, but it still hangs in the connecting mode.

Any help would be much appreciated, as I a really excited to try this out give some of the comments so far.

                      Thanks in advance.

I am having the same issues as you have described. Seems like to me it’s connecting in direct mode instead of network mode. The i.p address is correct for direct mode ( 192.168) but when I try and use the network mode it uses a different i.p 00.00. I think I have to delete the stored info on my ipad and set it up using direct mode using the 192.168 i.p address. I have had no time to play around with it the past few days, let me know if that works. From what I have read in other threads I think this is the issue. Might want to take a screen shot of your wifi i.p when all of the green lights are on your skytrak to ensure you input all of the correct info in the static area, I am not sure how you get all of the info to save once it’s entered in the static area ?? Seth does this make sense ?

Ok, so I managed to get another iPad to test the connection problem and had exactly the same result. So I figured it might be a problem with the SkyTrak. Turns out the solution was to do a hard rest of the SkyTrak, then set it up again first in direct mode, then network mode. The iPad still had an initial problem connecting, but eventually did connect.

I would echo the other comments in this thread. The app looks great and is a lot of fun, although very limited right now. Looking forward to a full release and improvement in the connection performance.

Each time I would need to kill the app and re-launch - the game would then ask me if I'd like to continue from my previous progress and then continue. Again last night WGT would hang after clicking continue, later it also through up a low memory condition - even though WGT was the only app running. Ipad mini2.
My wireless is dedicated to skytrak/ipad. My internet is 75mb fiber.
Anyone else seen this hanging? Mentioning it here for beta feedback really.
