  • SkyTrak and WGT

    Hi all,

I have seen many people asking about skytrak and WTG and it seems like that the people who are beta testing TGC and E6 have never
played or tested WTG. It seems like nobody in this forum has tested it. There is no videos ... nothing. But from what I keep hearing
skytrak is coming out with WTG first...? Is there anybody who has some more detailed info or talked to somebody who tested it ?
I'm only interested cause I'm pretty sure it will be the cheapest of all versions and to test it out it would be that big of an investment.
I own a skytrak since about 5 month and can't wait for course play. The problem is I'm on the road a lot so I will not be able to play
on a regular basis. That's why TGC ,even that it seems to be the best choice, doesn't make much sense if it's going to be a monthly
prescription. Really hope to get some infos or even videos about skytrak with WTG.

  • After consulting the Skytrak support by phone they have solved the problem. It seemed there was an registration issue. Anyway, I am happy to say that I can play the courses. Thanks for all your feedback !

Now just make sure not to leave yourself a 2" putt or be prepared for the AUTOPUTT from *%@#$$#!$&^#$&#!@!

  • Are there any plans to make SkyTrak compatible with the android version of WGT? Surely can't take much doing if its already compatible with the ipad/iphone version!

LOL.........that's hilarious. Let's see them roll out some sim software before you go grasping at straws.

Don't understand... let's see who roll out some sim software? As far as I know there already is sim software (WGT) but its only available on ipad/iphone (and is garbage from what I've heard!)... unless I've got it all wrong?

Thanks dsailer for saving me from having to explain. Cheers

loll_l, yes WGT is garbage (in my opinion) and is not a true sim software. Yes, it's alot of reading to catch up on here, but the bottom line is, WGT is an iphone/ipad GAME that they have added the ability to swing a club. The images and angles are static and don't even come close to resembling what a true sim software looks like. Not to mention all the other options that a true sim has - Multi-player, online play, competitions, tournaments, skins, match play, ect.

Optishot has a better sim package out thats better than what skytrak is trying to sell as their sim solution.

I have played both the E6 demo and WGT on Skytrak. There are a LOT of variables that go into making a decision on sim software and there are going to be a LOT of changes over the next 12 months. I don't get frustrated or emotional about it - I work with software every day. Anyway, my own wild speculation/thoughts are:

          1) sim software prices are going to fall because the right price point depends on number of units sold, which depends on hardware sold. As hardware prices fall, software will fall too. This is based on a simple supply/demand curve. When and how fast, I don't know and doubt anyone does.

          2) WGT was not really built for this and wether they put effort into adding features to fix that depends on revenue & profit projections. I have no idea what those numbers are. If the bugs were fixed and multiplayer added, it would be "ok" given the price. Right now, I only use it to play a hole or two now and then. Eventually I'll be stuck on the fringe of a green with no chance of chipping close and that frustration means that you should NOT plan on starting a round of golf with Skytrak and WGT with any intention of actually posting a score (unless you're good enough to hit every green, and even then there's auto-putt waiting for you.

          3) E6 is pretty awesome. However, I got stuck on the fringe using Skytrak and E6 last weekend and had invited family over for a scramble - that was pretty frustrating. I had thought this was just a WGT bug. They still had fun playing indoors in December. Fortunately the Skytrak stayed connected the whole time. It appears the networking & connection code in E6 doesn't have the issues that the Skytrak iOS app does. But, I don't play E6 that much because I borrow my kids gaming computer to do it. I'm not willing to plop down another 800-1000$ for an E6 demo plus another 1600$ for full E6.

Everyone's different. I get a fair amount of value out of using the Skytrak to work on my game - which is bad, and needs a LOT of work . If I wanted hardware and real sim, I'd probably wait it out. I do get frustrated with those who simply trash talk Skytrak and say "Get XYZ instead" when XYZ costs twice as much (or whatever it is). The Skytrak and everything else barely made the cut for me budget wise as it is, so my options were either:

          A) Skytrak
          B) nothing

Last thing: one of my real frustrations (and I'm sure others, especially if you are thinking of buying one) is that one has to find this forum and read about 1000 posts to figure out whether it's a good idea to proceed. You sure aren't going to learn what you need to know by perusing skygolf.com. Skytrak/Skygolf really ought to have pages tied to their own web site that have bug tracking, product announcements and development timelines.

In regards to the chipping aspect of SkyTrak and WGT. I do not have a problem getting it to register or chipping in game play. Does every chip finish close to the hole. Nope... But they do not on the course either. Not a fan of the putting. It isnt any better or worse that most sims I have played on. If I am offered a gimme. I take it. If it offers a 3 putt I typically with putt it out & hope for 2. I think it is fun. I play a lot of the challenge scenarios. Wish I could pick the holes I want to practice on directly.

      • Haven't touched wgt since the e6 demo became available. Not that e6 is amazing but its better than playing a video game which is what wgt feels like.

I actually tried out Pebble Beach yesterday because Skytrak facebook messaged me that the autoputt issue had been addressed. Of course, on the 3rd hole autoputt appeared and wacked the ball 10 feet by the hole from 10".... So yeah, I guess it's not fixed. They took some information from me and were going to talk to WGT. Skytrak thought that the 12/3 release had fixed the issue. Not so much. Honestly, the fact that this is a problem after 3 months goes to show how much WGT cares about their Skytrak customers.

definitely not worth $200/year let alone the supposed original price of $300/year...

      • I've had WGT for couple months now and play it off and on (while waiting like everyone else for The Next Big Thing). Suddenly I launch and it seems to not know who I am. I get the "New to WGT / Existing WGT Player" dialog. Login fails and Recover Password says it sent me a recovery email but I never get it. Guess I have to wait till tomorrow and try Skygolf chat support. Anyone else seen this?

Haven't touched WGT for a while now. But decided to check and looks like I can log in ok?

After getting in, decided to play a quick 9 holes of Pebble Beach and it looks like at least for Pebble they've changed some of the view angles (i.e., tee shots are all 1st person and other shots are either first person or only at slight angle)? Then tried Kiawah without really playing all the holes but looks like the Kiawah angles are same as before? Anybody else noticed this? Don't know if they fixed auto-putt either as did not have any auto-putt opportunity.

doublebogey, guess the login is just me then. As far as angles, I guess I always assumed that the problem was because they only have a few angles captured. Whether you have an odd angle depends on where your shot ends up. Maybe I'm wrong about that. When I get it working, just for giggles, maybe I'll go into practice mode and hit a bunch of drives down the same fairway to check it out. I'm all over the place, so should work out nice

      • I was able to start wgt yesterday ( first time i tried in about a month). No problem with log in. Played a few holes of chambers bay and concluded that angles are still weird and that its still not worth playing.

So maybe only angles changed for Pebble Beach. Oh well...

          Comment

          • Sound like priority #1 is to implement Topgolf games into WGT not fix the autoputt...

            • That's probably why they didn't bother to fix auto putt........Selling, who cares.

              • Only positive is Callaway is an investor in Topgolf - don't know what that means but hopefully it means something positive for WGT as a real sim platform for SkyTrak...

Had 3 birdies in a row and shot 34 on the front. The back nine didn't go very well though. Kept hitting the fringe and wacking the ball long. We need to start posting some happy thoughts and turn this forum around!
34 on pebble i didn't attempt any putts

                  • New version is out - 1.19.6.
Doesn't fix chipping, but putting seems a little straighter (still terrible terrible angles on putts and other places)
Distance issue didn't seem much changed - but I just had a quick go of pebble 9, and the new 18 Par 3 collection (whats with the 20mph winds everywhere?)

How about the autoputt issue? It's easy to see, just putt up towards the hole to about 5 or 6 feet, then just barely miss your next one and "preparing to autoputt" should come up.

I wonder if this autoputt issue is a WGT issue in general (i.e., is there this problem in the video game?) or just a SkyTrak WGT issue? If the latter I'd be really pissed because it means it's an easily fixable issue (if fact prob just a small bug in the ST version) and for people paying $200/year they don't seem to care, yet for people playing the video game for free there is no such bug.

                  • Has somebody noticed that after the recent update of WGT, when doing short putting the ball gets stuck?

Yeah I 10 putted from 12 feet, the ball would stop a foot at a time until I put in the hole. I think the ball is too good for the hole in WGT. WGT is teaching me how to be more like Happy Gilmour.

Yea, me too. "Wow, this is progress" was my thought . Now I just use WGT in practice mode + mulligans until I get a GIR and go to the next hole. It's the "how many shots to GIR" game. I don't need the stress.
