  • SkyTrak and WGT

    Hi all,

I have seen many people asking about skytrak and WTG and it seems like that the people who are beta testing TGC and E6 have never
played or tested WTG. It seems like nobody in this forum has tested it. There is no videos ... nothing. But from what I keep hearing
skytrak is coming out with WTG first...? Is there anybody who has some more detailed info or talked to somebody who tested it ?
I'm only interested cause I'm pretty sure it will be the cheapest of all versions and to test it out it would be that big of an investment.
I own a skytrak since about 5 month and can't wait for course play. The problem is I'm on the road a lot so I will not be able to play
on a regular basis. That's why TGC ,even that it seems to be the best choice, doesn't make much sense if it's going to be a monthly
prescription. Really hope to get some infos or even videos about skytrak with WTG.

Particularly shots from 10 yards and less. Even with the green speed set to 'slow' it seems like it's nearly impossible to land and hold chips. I also think the ball carries an unrealistic amount on those shorter shots.

Anyways I know many of you are off playing TGC and not thinking twice about WGT anymore, but I wanted to do a little survey just to see if my assessment is shared by others.
I'd say "unrealistic" is being kind. Haha. WGT just simply wasn't made with the intentions of sim use down the road. For $100 a year or whatever it cost, I guess it's ok to help break the monotony of just hitting balls on the Skytrak range. But with no live multiplayer, both online and local, it's really quite pointless. TGC (and in the future PG) the short game is really no comparison to WGT.

    • Does WGT WORK ON IPHONE 6. I can't get it to find my skytrak device. I can with my iPad, but not the iphone.

Do you mean that iPhone network settings don't see the skytrak to connect in direct mode? Or that the Skytrak app won't connect? I've had the former problem on my iPhone 5s. It seems to help to turn networking off and back on. If the later problem, make sure both devices are using the same network sid.

    • I can get the skytrak iPhone app in network mode with 3 green lights, but when I then open the WGT app and click on "play with skytrak", my device can not be found. I can find it doing the same thing with my iPad and play WGT, but not my iPhone 6.

if it's the same version of iOS, same version of Skytrak & WGT, same network, that's really strange. When switching from Skytrak app to WGT I always swipe-close Skytrak. My thinking was that I didn't want to confuse things, but maybe that step isn't necessary. You might try that to see if it helps.

obvious question, do you have skytrak turned on in wgt?

    • I deleted both apps and reinstalled to get it working. Thanks.

      • I have been playing WGT full courses for the last week, and I am really enjoying it! I am finding it very accurate and challenging. I am sticking with it until PG is working perfectly. I would have to agree though, if PG comes out with the price point of $250 per year it would make no sense getting WGT.

Are soft chips and putts working well for you on WGT (i.e., no or minimal misreads)?

      • Apologize if this has been asked and answered before, but does WGT w SkyTrak apply lie penalties on shots from rough, bunker, etc. like it does in the video game? Thanks.

For me, it doesn't seem to do much adjustment, if at all, from bunkers. I just hit them like normal chip shots.

Seems like it for me as well. Just wanted to confirm if this is truly the case - and if so why not apply lie penalty like the video game?

      • I agree with the general sentiment that WGT is disappointing. I guess that serves as a $200 lesson to read forums before investing. The main reason I purchased the WGT was that I could use my ipad for the sim. I will say that if you hit grens and autoputt if can be fun. I would assume that the E6 and TGC are PC based, correct?

Yes TGC, E6 and PG (currently) are all for PCs only.

      • That's what I do, auto putt. It's been fun.

        • When I'm on the last 2-3 holes the shots start taking 5-10 seconds to load? putting still stinks. any recommendations.

          • I went through the challenge for the first time last night. It worked fine, until I got to a hole where it was about 205 to the pin. I pulled a 5w, and hit it 4 times, each time, the top light went red, then the middle one yellow, and it had to reconnect without registering the shot. After reconnecting, it produced the red laser without issue..

              • Just played WGT for first time in a while (they have 18 holes of Pebble now), and I have a suggestion for SkyTrak_Seth / Seth to pass along to WGT:

If a ball is on the fringe and less than 10 yards or something from pin, just allow player to accept 2 strokes (or 3 strokes) instead of having to painfully attempt a short chip using SkyTrak on WGT. Let's face it, unless SkyTrak will fix the problem, it does not read short chips on WGT at all. I literally attempted something like 30 straight chips from 8 yards on one hole and it never read - the only way to get it to read is to chip past pin and off green or skull the ball (again until it runs off green). And chipping 30 straight times can't be good for one's back. Hope this feature can be added in the next WGT release.

                Thanks.

                • Thanks for the suggestion. I think we may actually offer a toggle to put the unit in putting mode manually. We've found that putting mode captures those types of chips very well, so it may become a putt/chip mode.

Great! Looking forward to it. Thanks.

                • Does anyone know if there is a trick to putting? I am one who actually likes the WGT so far. I don't have any other sim experience so maybe I am naive, but I think it is pretty good for playing on an IPAD. The problem I have is once or twice a round when I putt, the ball only goes one inch. It is a killer when playing in the tournaments. I like the Pinehurst tournament that is going on now but always have to autoputt because of the 4 putts this can generate. Also, has anyone noticed how difficult to hold the greens on the pinehurst course it is? I back so many approach shots off the front it is ridiculous. I have been told that is the way the course is in real life.

I agree that the 1-inch putts are a serious problem, especially for tournament play. I hope the planned changes in putting mode will eliminate the 1-inch putt problem.

Regarding the crowned greens at Pinehurst, this design was a favorite of Donald Ross, who designed the course. Ross borrowed this concept from the greens at Royal Dornoch in Scotland, where he spent a lot of time in his younger years.

Put the ball about an inch in front of the red dot and you should be good. I have the same thing and love WGT. I'm not wasting my time buying a computer and then praying tgc works without lag.

                • Would anybody else agree that it would be nice to have a softer green setting in WGT? I don't have a problem holding greens when coming in from 100+ yards but when chipping from 20 yards and less it's extremely challenging to hold these greens especially given that many short chips don't register. I don't putt when playing WGT- just accept the auto putt and so slower/softer greens wouldn't affect putting in any way for me. I'd love to see a super, super, super soft green setting just so I have a chance of holding the greens when chipping from shorter distances. It seems like at least once per round I end up chipping back and forth over a green several times before just giving up. In my hitting bay I can move my mat back so that I have about 10 yards to the net and so I can mark off on the floor real life distances and see where my chips land. I've had 10 yard uphill chips on WGT where I'll chip it 3 yards in real life and it will land and roll off the other side of the green. Obviously we all wish chips would register better but I'm proposing an alternative idea of just having a softer green setting so that they are easier to hold. Just a thought.

Also - I've shared this before in a PM to Seth but I really wish the previous shot's numerical data were displayed longer on the bottom of the screen. You really have to act fast in order to see it before it disappears ! In fact I really wish it would just remain on the bottom of the screen until you hit your next shot! Anybody else agree with that idea?

                    I definitely second the above.

As for soft chips, just allow one to make it an auto 2- or 3-putt if you're 10 yards or less from pin even if you're just slightly off green on fringe or something.
                Working...
