  • SkyTrak - Playing courses in WGT

I hope I'm not repeating an already talked about subject. I'm very new here, just got the SkyTrak up an operational. I bought the Game Improvement Pkg (haven't activated it yet) now I hear we can upgrade so that we can actually play courses. I see SkyTrak's
Game Improvement pkg. Is $99. or GIP with courses for $199. I would think I could just upgrade from GIP Right? I'm looking all over SkyTrak's website I can't find a phone number, email address or anyway of contacting them. I find the lack of my ability in contacting them slightly uncomfortable. I hope I'm missing something simple.... Help... Btw I love the unit itself.

I think that is a particularly harsh view of skytrak. You can go look around older gc2 or trackman forums and find individual accounts of hardware malfunctions etc involving systems that were MUCH more expensive and didn't work on anything but a hi end computer. Those stories also ravage the product makers for poor customer service. i still love hitting balls with the range app. I wish they could make it better in multiple ways but it is absolutely worth it. I was told I would likely get tired of hitting balls only but have not in getting on a year.

I almost didn't get the product because of skygolf. I have friends who have had customer service issues with their gps devices without a satisfactory resolution. Appears they are carrying on that tradition but....isn't willymakeit getting his problem taken care of?

I bought a unit early for 1500$ and have still not approached the 2000$ mark. Seth reached out to us regarding the sync/gip package which I greatly appreciate.

In the end part of me wishes I would have gotten foresight stuff (gc2)....until I think about the 8000 dollars I have in my pocket (roughly including the price of a unit, software and the proper machine to run it). We need to continue to compare skytrak to gc2 and trackman (I have done testing vs both and they are very close), but we always need to be aware of the large price difference. I drive an Acura. It's nice. It is not the same car as a loaded Audi or Lexus. They cost more.

I am not in love with wgt. It is frustrating. But I have always been less interested in a full sim because to do it right I knew it still costs a lot. Not 2000. In time the skytrak may get there. I was hoping for this winter but it looks like it's not happening. i have a young son that refuses to do wgt because of the inconsistency especially putting. But we still go into the golf room (ok it is a storage area) and hit balls on the range together. And I can hit balls all winter here in Ohio.

When the other sims come out I don't know what to do. I have to buy a computer AND software. Difficult to blindly drop that much money without knowing what will come of it. But I have zero regrets about the skytrak after a year other than I have to work and take care of kids too much to play with it more

Well it all depends what your looking for from Skytrak. If your just wanting to use it for the range then I'm sure your more then happy with it.
Like myself I'm a golf junky. So playing simulator golf is up my alley. Last year I would spend 3 times a week at our local shop that has HD golf. Playing tournaments and men night with buddies. Now I thought with Skytrak and reading all the information that I would have all that and more in the comfort of my home but all I'm ended up with is a beta unit used only for the range. I'm sorry but was bored after a week using it. And now I find out wgt is a let down. Is there ever a ending to the misery in trying to get out of a bad relationship with Skytrak.

It's going on to November and still no definite answer on when a working simulator will work with Skytrak. If you look at all the early post back from January that October was suppose to be when everything will be layed out and would be playing simulator golf but instead on here looking for the never ending answers and so many questions unanswered.

        It is a launch monitor!
They added additional SIM functionality we should be pleased with that. Is WGT better than Optishot? A million times. WGT costs $99 that will be the cheapest single golf product we own.
        Some reality checks here please.

Obviously we will be here all day butting heads. I'm just stating facts about a product that I field tested and I'm not happy with the incorrect numbers I'm getting. But when field testing I shouldn't have to worry about bringing an umbrella or a Mat or to level the product to make sure I get the most accurate numbers. I bought the unit because guys were beta testing it for simulator purposes. I tried to go a cheap route and now I'm paying the price for that and just found out today I'm stuck with it. Because they won't return it. So buyers beware

optishot. Lol. At least I don't get has frustrated for less then half the price has a Skytrak.

So people please save your money and wait or you will be on here and venting also.

I told Skytrak if they don't want to give my money back that's fine. Social media goes along way and now I won't stop venting until Skytrak gets the message.

Okay done venting for today. Will be making a new post for disgruntled Skytrak users tomorrow.

Why start another thread? Its tiresome.
Im sure your replacement skytrak will have the same numbers as the one you sent back.
We've crossed swords on how far you think you hit the ball before last year in the optishot threads. Its like groundhog day.
I'd suggest if your still unhappy when it comes back that you follow through with one of your other threads and sell it. Buy a GC2 or trackman then you can fill their forums with all their shortfalls.
Telling others not to buy a skytrak is unfair, it works as a launch monitor near flawlessly. Sure its early days for SIM functionality but thats another purchasing decision entirely - at least there are choices.

Why start another thread that because this isn't talking about wgt anymore.

Why I'm going to tell buyers beware because I do t want them going though the disappointment I'm going through. If anything. Try before you buy.

Yes it's a launch monitor. I get it. But when it doesn't function like a launch monitor and I have to stand on my head and hold my tongue just right to make it read properly. I'm not interested.

And for optishot. Maybe take a look how the tournaments are set up for driver now. Only downside with optishot is the misreads. No difference then what Skytrak is does right now at 3 times the money.

I tried to sell it but everybody was trying to low ball me on a two week product. Once I do sell it I will be going down that alley on buying a gc2. That was my gut feeling to do in the first place. But Instead I'm on here venting. Will stop when I sell the Skytrak

I'm glad you have one that's working.

Surely people aren't 'low-balling' you if you're trying to sell a product that you've been posting about as pretty much being equivalent to a bag of cow muck, why would you expect people to give you anything near the retail price? Maybe 80% of retail is reasonable resell value for a product a couple of weeks old, but if the guy selling it was labouring everyday on how useless and worthless it is I wouldn't buy it or maybe I might think it worth a punt at 25%? I wouldn't buy a £10K car for £8K after a couple of weeks if the guy selling it was telling me it doesn't work, the radio doesn't tune in, you have to drive it with one leg out of the window or the wheel balance is wrong.......

Not sure I understand your logic really? Honestly, best of luck selling it, I really hope that you get near the figure you want. In a funny kind of way, I hope you can't get anywhere near what you are expecting and are forced to keep it as you might find in a few more updates time it has the functionality and reliability of numbers you expect? especially once all the sim integration is completed maybe the niggles will be more speedily rectified.

I think that you have done a more than adequate job of documenting how dysfunctional your unit is and how unhappy you have been. Your opinion is in multiple places in the skytrak forums. I wanted to discuss my overall happiness with the product to let others know how good I think it is when compared to similar products.....Wait there is not a similar product in the price range.

It is also amusing to me that you consider yourself a much bigger golf junkie than all the others on this site who are reading and writing posts about all different golf simulators/monitors. Pretty sure every person who bought or thought about getting a skytrak qualifies as a golf junkie. We devote rooms and garages to golf during winter and summer. I'm sure you love golf and are very frustrated as would I if I thought the unit was grossly off. The skytrak is not a beta unit. You may have gotten a bad unit. It is fantastic but limited like every unit.

If skytrak replaces your unit you should sell it immediately online as never used...get most of your money out of it and get an HD golf simulator. A quick search online showed they are between 35000 and up. Very comparable. As I said above you are comparing a 2000 thing to others that cost in some instances 10 times the price which is drastically unfair.

I completely support the skytrak people putting out the product and then tweaking issues that arise. They have done it with short irons, improved putting (ways to go there), and are working on the driver distance issue you have documented extensively on this site.

I think it's incumbent upon the many that have had a good experience and have realistic expectations to put the small but vocal minority in proper perspective. We are now getting new posts where people are asking if these negative posts are representing the majority of users. They aren't but clearly damage control has to be done to make it clear that while some are disappointed (and some rightly so) that not even close to a majority feel that way.

To that point this is entirely on topic.

To best play WGT with skytrak, you are better off not using a projector. As noted before not every shot is pictured straight on to the target. Most are but not all. My setup has a monitor to the side of my net. What I find the best solution is to set your aiming point in the game then don't look at it again. Focus on just hitting the ball straight ahead in line with your skytrak unit. If you have a projector just focus on hitting the dead middle of the screen. Then you'll be fine.
