Registering Tee Shots

I've had the Skytrak for a while now and never had a problem using my irons. However, I cannot get tee shots to register. Is there something I'm missing about aligning the laser? Or should I be setting the skytrak unit high enough to aim the laser at the height of the ball on the tee?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Just place the ball or the tee on the laser dot. You can also try to place the ball an inch or even 2 behind the laser. (behind in this case is relative to the target being in front)
If that does not work, post a picture of your setup. Then we might be able to give you better advice.

I would send it back and ask for a refund. There's many people on here including me having issues. Not sure why we have to settle for a product like this.

Please, I understand your frustration and difficulty, but there are a number of things to try that could be simple fixes before resorting to sending a unit back.

Skytrak. Yes I have done all that. I used a red,blue and yellow blue tees and still no difference

I have moved the tee forward of the red dot and I get no readings at all from any of the clubs When I move it behind the red dot I get really bad readings and the ball slice 30 yards right or left. I found on the lazer was most accurate and still felt the distances were wrong.and yes I did have a line pointing at the lazer So yes Skytrak I tried everything.

Thanks for the replies. I was able to determine the problem. Two issues: the plastic tees I was using with the Country Club Elite mat were white and it seems to impact the sensor. Second, even with a wood-colored tee, if it goes flying at Impact then the ball won't pick up either. So I've tried to get my tee level just right such that I can hit the ball clean in order to get Skytrak to register.

But I imagine others use white tees, right? Does that cause a problem for everyone? Also, is it just a given that if the tee and ball go flying in front of the sensor the skytrak cannot register the tee shot? Again, the only tee shots that register on my unit are those where the tee stays in tact with the mat.

I have not personally had a problem with it, but it certainly does seem possible that the tee could interfere with the image processing. If that is the case, I would try teeing the ball up a tad behind (to the right from the golfer's position) of the laser dot. I have to do this anyway because I have a higher ball speed and also a white headed driver, so maybe that's why I've never seen it. I would assume the ball is travelling at a far greater speed than the tee, so that might give them enough separation time.

No issues here, i use white, blue, natural, yellow plastic, white plastic and even a green rubber tee.

They dont go flying as much as a tee that is stuck into the mat.

I use a massive orange rubber range tee. As thick as your thumb and 2-3" tall. It flies all over the place at impact I only seldom get an unregistered drive. Will try to post a pic.

I've only had my unit for a few days and I'm having a tough time registering shots on the golf course and driving range. Is there an issue with the sun being on the ST unit. On the range I was hitting south and the sun was over my shoulder from the east. It was cloudy but enough of the sun through the clouds was making a shadow. I was getting about 3 out of 10 to register. Driving range balls are yellow. I sure hope that is not an issue as I can't change that. Could not get any driver shots to register. I used there rubber tee that is in the mat so that nothing would fly in front of the ST and disturb the view of ball. I have a fairly tall tee hight though. Any ideas. I won't go into the short driver yardage in simulator as that is for another thread.

Sometimes blades of grass interfere with Skytrak from reading the ball correctly. So the issue with your driver is probably the sun. Get a big umbrella and block out the sun. Direct sunlight seems to make it hard for the Skytrak to read correctly.

They have said not to use yellow balls also.

My range is entirely yellow balls. I have no issues. I'm in UK though so theres absolutely no sun.

I did not see anything on their website about not using yellow(or any colored) golf balls. Did I miss that somewhere? If that is the issue I will be sending the unit it back. I'm a member of this golf course so I have not choice and this is where my daughter takes her lessons. Not impressed about the sunlight issue also. Where would I put the umbrella? The sun is behind my back. I would be blocking out the guy behind me! and it was not even direct sunlight, it was just a bright cloudy sky.

I don't use my Skytrak on the driving range. I just use it indoors. Trying to level it on the ground is tough to do, Especially if you have to keep moving the unit after hitting shots and making divots. I would try going to the range late in the day when the sun isn't overhead and very bright. See if you get better results.

Regarding the yellow balls. I just hit one of those yellow range balls with the black stripe on it. I hit it indoors. It read my shots, but my 7 iron was 20 yards shorter than when I hit my white Pro V1 ball. It's either short because it has harder time reading the ball or it's because range balls are purposely made to not travel as far as a normal golf ball. So then the Skytrak is reading it 100% correctly and I just am not hitting the ball as far because its a shitty range ball! They aren't made as good and to go as far.

Thanks, Mike80. That's useful information. I will go to the range tomorrow and give that a try. Makes sense about being short as they are actually about 10% short on average because of the type of soft ball they are. I will try my daughters colored golf balls in my sim also and see if it reads. I'm starting to feel a little better after reading your post.

Skytrak recommends newer white golf balls, but mine worked fine at the range with yellow golf balls. The sun didn't create an issue for skytrak either, though it seemed to interfere with a radar unit I used for club had speed. I concur in the suggestion that you borrow a few range balls from your club to test at home.
