Does everyone really hate their skytrak?

I have read so much negativity lately towards skytrak and wanted to hear from more people positive or negative. I have also read several people who have been very pleased up to a point but have now "flipped" on their skytrak. I don't consider myself an overly positive person but for the second straight fall find myself full of joy that I have a chance to hit balls inside my home with a launch monitor.

I would love to hear from some of the more experience sim/launch monitor testers for their take on this topic.

I have to admit I love mine too, even though it doesn't always report the numbers my fragile ego wants to see. Only gripe is that TGC isn't released yet.

I love mine. Have recommended them to tons of people. I actually hit on a gc2 yesterday at golfsmith and every third shot showed a low hook that went 75 yards. Obviously something was wrong with it, everything can have problems. I think we hear so many bad things about skytrak because those people trying to find answers. if anyone in the St. Louis area and wants to try one out let me know.

Skytrakis a very good unit. It just needs some software refinements. Yes every system can have problems, even the GC2. Their are probably defective Skytrak units out there that don't perform to spec. The working units perform as advertised.

The majority of complaints are coming from a small but vocal minority of users here. They can definitely skew overall perception. And most of the whining is coming from unrealistic expectations in regards to sim options, WGT specifically.

I'd sell my golf clubs before I sold my SkyTrak.

I think there are true hardware issues with some units. The problems any sim will have can be hardware or software. Skytrak has some units that are probably defective. On top of that they have some software algorithm issues with certain ball speeds ( driver ball speeds, wedges prior). The other software complaints have been related to simulation which has been slow to be released. The algorithms used by each sim will reveal different distances and ball curvature amounts, as well as the realism of things like the short game - chipping and putting. Your right that there may be a small amount that are complaining but in all fairness, I wouldnt be happy with a defective unit. That's where customer service needs to step up to keep those folks happy.

Agreed. All we can do is listen and try to make improvements based on feedback in the field. I think someone posted it in another thread, but SkyTrak has come a loooong way since it's launch. Thanks to you guys, we continue to improve both algorithms and features with each release. Sim partners and customer service are coming up to speed. Things are definitely moving in the right direction.

I'd predict you wouldn't hit it very far then and would start getting upset with skytrak...

I am very happy with the unit. I pre-ordered mine and was one of the consumers who got it early and went through all the issues, incorrect wedge distance, incorrect mid iron distance and now shorter driver distance.

I believe the negativity comes from any of the following.
1-Initially only on ipad and really this is still the case. (This was clearly spelled out, yet people bought it anyway and then complained)
2-People wanted this for sim use and bought it prior to anything being available.
3-People clearly got bad units. I think these demo's may have been more than just blemishes, personal opinion.
4-Forum user from skytrak trying to give guidance on dates that backfired almost every time because dates were missed.
5-People who inquired about the actual maintenance cost of the unit were told one thing and then it changed. Don't know why, company strategy change, misinformed, who knows. (I was one of these and still am miffed, but i do like the unit still)
6-Initial GIP package purchase. Some people paid and some didn't but both got the same functionality.
7-The recently revised/published plans for basic/gip/sim. Personally i think they do not provide enough for the basic package based on cost of the unit.
8-WGT release issues, people who paid struggled to get it working, but was usually fixed with customer chat.
                9-Data syncing.
                10-I'm sure there are more

If you knew exactly what you were buying and what was currently released for features, i think those people are satisfied. If you bought it with the expectations of the future features coming soon, they have been very disappointed.

                My $0.02 anyway.

I also preordered last October. I love my Skytrak. Like wbond said, there have been a few negatives along the way, but overall I would do it again. I am just anxious for TGC and e6 cloud to become available at this point. If people have bad hardware, i can understand they are frustrated, and hope that skytrak fixes the issues soon for those people. I think the negativity on the forum is over exaggerated by the few that have had issues. That said, if skytrak is proactive to take care of those folks, then I'm sure they can prevent this negativity

I was very PRO, PRO, PRO skytrak until recently. I used to recommend it to anyone who would listen. I'm not doing that until this product is out of BETA and in FULL FUNCTIONAL RELEASE.

That's my only gripe, is that it's still a BETA product. Where's the FULL PC APP? Why isn't Version 2.2 (or whatever the next version is) out to add the 4% to driver distance?

Why is WGT distances so off compared to the range app? I think you might misunderstand negativity with questions about a $2,000 product.

I would of never bought WGT if I had a chance to play a 9 hole round first to test out putting, short chips, 45 degree angles, ect. They need to offer a nine hole play too for demo so people fully know what they are buying.

All that being said, yes, I would buy my skytrak again and hopefully when these problems are addressed and corrected, I'll look to recommend the product again. Until then there's to much water under the bridge with promise after promise about all these new changes and additions........

HEY SkyTrak_Seth, what ever happened to the accelorometer on the latest update too? There's another release note that never happened.

All I can say is buyer beware. I'm getting a new one back and would love to sell to somebody that has more patience then I do.

I could go on and on how bad this product is at the moment but I'm not waisting my time on this product anymore. I'm sure one day it could be great and when it is Skytrak might charge you 10,000 for it So I'm assuming it's 2000.00 because it's in a beta stage. But I don't have the time and patience for that to happen for a product to get to the stage. It's been over a year since it been out and still not happy where the product is at. So like mr wonderful says on shark tank. Your best thing to do with this product is take it out back and bury it. Lol.

If you don't want to spend more than the ST cost then this is the best you can get IMO.
I have had mine for 10 months and while I can come up with a whole lot of things to complain about the truth is that it has been a lot of fun and it has helped me to improve my skills quite a lot.
One of the complaints that keep popping up frequently is unit failing to pick up shots.
Out of the thousands of shots I have done. I can't remember even 1 that it missed to pick up. Yes there has been WiFi connect issues that looked like shots where not picked up because of network problems, but that was fixable with better network setup.
That is assuming you keep the shot below some 35 deg VLA. Above that it becomes flaky and above 50 deg it's almost 100% miss.
Another problem that people frequently mention is driver distance.
I would have agreed but I have tested it against Trackman on a driving range and it is not short. It's not spot on accurate but the variation goes both ways.
So on that point I would say it's reasonably accurate.
As for the accuracy in general being as specified, it's not. But it's complicated to explain and most of the shots are measured within spec.

The only request I have of willymakeit is make sure you post again when you have a product you are happy with. And I honesty don't mean that as a negative comment. Most of us had to research and then pick one do to various factors. I have never ruled out going a different direction and would just be interested in the future. I know the problems you have had and would love to know if you find satisfaction with a different product or a new skytrak. It doesn't sound like a new skytrak will cut it for you but maybe something else will...

Just like any product, you only hear from the disgruntled folks who got unlucky and got one of the duds. The satisfied customers are too busy having fun with their Skytrak. I think it's certainly possible that Skytrak needs to improve their quality control. I must have gotten lucky because my unit performs just like I expected it would. Is it perfect? No. Is it a bargain compared to the GC2, Trackman, Flightscope? Absolutely. There has been some growing pains for the Skytrak, but this isn't a market that stuff happens overnight. The fact is, Skytrak is the absolute first time we've had the opportunity to have an affordable launch monitor that gives you ball data, not just calculate it.
