  • Skytrak and Home network connection issues

I have spoken with skytrak help several times and can't figure this out so I was hoping that someone else may have had this issue.

My wifi is strong. My ipad has no issues connecting. No other device in my house has issues connecting. I am on WPA2.

Hoping maybe the skytrak person may actually see this.

    Help!

I can practice because the device will connect in the direct mode to the Ipad.
I will not be able to play through WGT unless I can get connected in network mode though.

    Thanks

I just ran into this the other night. My skytrak app was really laggy and it wasn't syncing. I reset my router and it instantly improved. Make sure your ipad and ST are on the same network.

Thanks Matt. I will try to reset the router.

What's your router's gateway IP? You cannot use 10.0.0.1 (unless they fixed it). Anything else should be fine.

Its case sensitive - make sure you enter the SSID exactly.

All of the above. Plus, your network password cannot have any special characters in it (#, @, !, ?, etc)

Hi Seth are you sure about that? My WPA2 password contains @ symbols and it connects just fine, has it possibly been fixed? Come to think of it even the previous firmware was connecting although it frequently freezed on me with all 3 green lights on but doesn't register any shots. Still freezes to be honest

I also have special characters in my network password, it very slow to connect (I'm running a repeater into my garage), but it works once it is connected.

Seth, Thanks for the comments. Just got back and have reset my router and gateway. Will try to connect later this evening. I will keep you posted.
              Really want it to work.

Well I figured it out. Instead of putting the actual name of my home network in, I just put home in. So even though the security and the password were correct the name of the network also needs to be correct. I believe Mr. Hogan may have re

I am also having network connection problems (I have just received my Skytrak and have not been able to connect successfully to a network), no problem with direct connect. This thread is VERY confusing to me. We're supposed to enter the device SSID and its WPA2 password? Or am I supposed to enter my network name and my network password. If the former, why do the instructions or the fields in the Skytrak software not say that!? And if the latter why am I supposed to select a security protocol and which one do I select? When I connect any other device (laptops, Ipads etc) to my home network all I do is put in the network name and my network password, and bingo, I'm in. I didn't have to pick WPA or WPA2 when I first connected other devices... Why is Skygolf making this more difficult than it needs to be!? I have tried every combination of my network name, security protocol and my network password and none of them have worked. OK, mini rant over. Any suggestions or clarifications much appreciated.

I just followed this and it worked: https://www.skygolf.com/skygolf/supp...ion_Guide.ashx

Do you have any special characters in your network name or password? It says in this guide that it won't work if you do.

Well, I don't really understand why connect now to HOMENETWORK is different from connect next to HOMENETWORK in terms of the information that is needed - the ipad/iphone provides a keyboard over the direct wifi link and once the Skytrak has the information it needs it can surely break the direct connection and go looking for a network or router that has that convenient name. But my point is still the same - if the Skytrak needs the 32 character SSID then why on earth don't they tell us that. Most regular folks (me included) when told to enter a network will enter the convenient network name. From techterms.com:

SSID Stands for Service Set Identifier; An SSID is a unique ID that consists of 32 characters and is used for naming wireless networks. When multiple wireless networks overlap in a certain location, SSIDs make sure that data gets sent to the correct destination.

The SSID is different than the name that is assigned to a wireless router. For example, the administrator of a wireless network may set the name of the router, or base station, to Office. This will be the name that users see when browsing available wireless networks, but the SSID is a different 32 character string that ensures the network name is different from other nearby networks.

Thanks Foreleft, I have tried that but with the network name as I understood it to be. I'll try the SSID when I get home.

I've also been unable to connect in Network mode with trying all kinds of things and even resetting the unit. My plan is to call customer support when time allows. I couldn't get it to work with E6 beta with USB either. Some day....

For those having issues connecting Skytrak via WiFi try the following:
1 - On your computer in your network connections/settings. Find the Skytrak device and click Forget This Device or Disconnect.
2 - Disconnect Skytrak from USB.
3 - Turn on Skytrak and open Skytrak PC app
4 - Click on Device Connections
5 - Click on Network Mode
6 - Now minimize the Skytrak PC app. Go to your WiFi list of connections and click on the one that says Skytrak.
7 - Now maximize the Skytrak PC app
8 - A screen should appear and click New Network
9 - Type in your SSID, WiFi password and select the appropriate type (WPA2, WPA, etc)

Note: Make sure you use the correct SSID. Also it wouldn't work for me on the WiFi extender of (AirPort_EXT). I had to connect directly to my wireless router as (AirPort) - Maybe the underscore is considered a special character it doesn't like.

If you don't connect you may need to type a different SSID/PW/Type. If so go to Device Connections and select Network Mode. It should prompt you with a screen again and click NEW NETWORK. Try again with different SSID/PW/Type. If it never prompts you for the New Network then go back to step 1 and Forget the Skytrak Device from your network connections and start over.

The key is to get your SSID correct and remember if you have an extender you may have same problem I did.

                  Good luck!

I was able to connect my Skytrak via a wifi extender. I do seem to remember a post a while ago where special characters in the network name did cause problems.

Still no luck. My comcast wireless router has a label with a "default" SSID and a password on the side and I've tried every combination I can think of - that SSID and that password and each security type, same with that SSID and my network password, both again with the dash removed from the SSID. Also, the Xfinity "My Account" app allows you to check all kinds of parameters on their wireless router, and based on that app, the SSID is in fact the network name I have selected. So I tried that with all combinations again. Tonight I'm going to try with my laptop instead of my iphone but otherwise it's call support tomorrow, which is fortunately my WFH day...

The wireless router does have the option, via the app, of manually adding a device by its MAC address. But the Skytrak's MAC address is nowhere to be found.

OK, so I feel a little foolish. Instead of hard-resetting the router I had previously just power-cycled it. Now that I have hard-reset the router, using a straightened paper clip, I'm in. Thanks for the patience and responses. In case anyone is confused by SSID (as I was), it really just is the network name that you will see in Settings-Wifi on an iphone or Ipad.
