  • SkyTrak SIM Putting

Finished another round on E6 and putting as usual is brutal. Not just E6 though, WGT is unusable for me too, there is zero consistency in the horizontal launch.
But i think I know why...
On my mat it's pretty fuzzy, the hitting surface is obviously scuffed and ever so slightly uneven. So it stands to reason that puts can jump left or right minutely, and then the readings can be very arbitrary from the unit.
Without being able to align the device outside of the ST app, moving it to a flat area is a no go, putting a mat on top of the hitting area doesn't work, as it's slightly uneven as well.
This is not a ST issue, as I'm sure it's reading the variations of bounce from the mat at launch and extrapolating - but it makes it unbearable to putt with.
E6 only has 10ft gimmies, and the auto putt feature will basically 3 putt every 50ft. And don't get me started on WGT and it's guesstimates...

Currently thinking that an option for Skytrakers in SIMs would be to allow 0* variance on greens, negating the left/right issue. Then putting becomes a game of speed and tempo rather than directional. E6 allows you to align to break already, so this is another aid in that vein.

Anyone else having the same issues vis-a-vis the mat surface?

    Hi Wilson

I had the same problems with putting. I tried everything including 3 different Skytraks, multiple pcs, different lighting, golf clubs etc.

I also use tee line turf. That is about as rough and bumpy as a turf can get.

When I put the PC version on my PC, the firmware updated to 1.4. That fixed the putting problems for me. On the E6 demo, the putting is completely normal. TGC beta still misses a little but now where like it was before.

I think your theory is most likely wrong since I'm still using the tee line turf.

Try updating your firmware through the PC version.

I've given up trying to putt on WGT. It's completely unusable once you get on the green. 6 degrees right then the next one 4 degrees left, etc.

And how do you think they fixed the putting with the firmware and sim updates?
Take a surface where you can see the direction and mark it so you can estimate the angle. Then do a few intentional misses to the right and left.
        Then you will know ...
The technology where they use fix timing to detect shots with only 2 images does not allow for any kind of reasonable accuracy, at least not for slow putts.
The only putts that will read with some +/- 2 deg error are the fast ones. The closer you are to the max speed they safe guard for, the better the accuracy will be.

Yes he is right. ST does not seem to pick up slow putts (or really soft chips as a matter of fact or high flop shots). I basically have given up on putting on ST all together, but still super frustrated by its inability to pick up soft chips and flops shots (every time on fringe or greenside bunker, it never picks up the nice shot chips or flops out of bunker and only picks up the fast chips that rolls off green or low flops that hits lip of bunker).

davray666, does the GC2 have the same problem w putts, soft chips and flop shots?

doublebogey, don't ask a question you don't want the answer to. It's just gonna make us want a GC2 even MORE!!!

GC2 reports speed in MPH with 1 decimal point. The HLA accuracy seams to me so far like it's within the specified +/- 1 deg. So yes putting and any kind of chip soft high or bladed. Works just fine.
Even a 1 degree error can be frustrating when putting So we are looking at normalizing those in the interface software to make sure you don't miss a put that would have gone in.

There is much more to say about this and to create a seamless experience requires more work than I would have guessed. But the work is pretty much done and the experience is seamless.
I am sure the people that did most of the work will be happy to tell you all about it when the time comes and it is released.

For me too, when I updated PC app and skytrak to V1.4 all my putting wows were resolved. I've played a couple rounds on E6 and putting was spot on,

My only issue was chipping on the fringe inside of 20' - but that's another thread.

So mine is showing v1.4 but e6 putting sucks. When I putt, the line will shift right and putt goes right.

            Suggestions?

RMA - bad unit......LOL. Not sure. After the update, I've had no issues with putting on either E6 or WGT. That being said, most of the time when I play E6, I select "computer decides how many putts" and just live with it.
