I noticed that Seth suggested moving the ball further back behind the red dot for longer hitters, and the ball further forward for lob shots and out of the ordinary shots in order for skytrak to register the shot.

Can I ask for those who have a gc2. Do you have to make these adjustments to register the full array of shot types too, or is this a feature of the skytrak. If it is only a feature of skytrak, could this explain the price difference between the two LM's. Does the gc2 have a higher price point due to better quality cameras.

I think the cameras are cheaper, but this has to do with the fixed time delay between photos. I think the gc2 takes a series of photos while the st only takes 2. Davray would know for sure, though.

Thanks for the response. I recently bought a skytrak but haven't had time to use it much due to work commitments. I am concerned that I may have jumped the gun with so many disgruntled skytrak owners on these forums regarding sim options, registering shots, shot distances etc.

With the new update it's extremely accurate. Also Seth said he has a white taylormade driver head and it effects the camera with the ball being white as well.

My take on the whole thing:
-Almost as accurate as gc2 and trackman for a small fraction of the price.
-The range software is much improved compared to where it started, but it has been a bit painful over the last year getting there.
-Simulation software launch delays have been bad.
-SkyGolf support is reportedly pretty bad, but Seth has been great here on this forum.

All in all, I think there are plenty of happy customers, but we just aren't as vocal as the few really loud naysayers.

Honestly, with the exception of the high ball speed driver tweak, I think several people that had distance concerns are starting to realize that the distance issues are actually due to the ball, mat, their swing, phase of the moon, etc, and have nothing to do with the Skytrak unit. (though there were a couple of legitimately bad units, it seems).

I haven't had any trouble registering shots. Move forward for flops, back for chips and drivers. Problem solved.

Would I be happier if v2.1.1 was the software that came with my unit last year? Absolutely.

Do I want simulation software immediately? Yep.

Does the $99/yr sit well with me? Nope.

Still a crazy good value at the price point? You bet.
Would I do it again? Yep.

I have a GC2. You have an area of around 5x5" to put the ball. It doesn't matter where in the area you put it.

I am fairly new to the ST. Have not had problems with flops/high launch shots. How far back from the red laser dot have you had success with on chips and driver/3w specifically. Thanks

A few inches. The goal is to get the ball in the air before it gets to the camera FOV, I think. If I'm on the red dot with a chip, it launches too low (at least I think that's what's happening). I'm usually about an inch behind with drivers, and on the dot with 3 wood.

GC2 definitely has a wider view, but that comes with a price. Like I mentioned before, there's really no magic placement that works for everybody for every type of shot. Out of the ordinary shot types or swing speeds may require some finagling, but the red dot really gets the job done for almost all.

Hahaha bennyg211 ! As long as the ball is clearly in the picture, no it won't make any difference. The problem will come if you move the ball too far away that the software has a hard time reading the outline of the ball/marks, or too close/out of position that it crops the balls.

Is the new update on the App on the I-pad......or need to be installed into the ST unit itself?

It's a bit of both. The update includes software version 2.1.1, which updates your iPad or PC, and firmware version 1.4, which updates your skytrak. On the iPad, it's all done via the app store I believe.

Yep just update the App on i-pad and then it will update firmware on skytrak device when connected.
