Can you confirm these Skytrak limits?

Hi all, I was talking to a physical friend of mine about the Sytrak features. I specify he directs a golf academy/swing analysis laboratory. He currently works with GC2/Flightscope and other complex systems like the K vest- tpi 3d, the Gasp-system, the K-trainer.
I told I was about to buy a Skytrak. He answered this way: " Unfortunately there are no details on the technology used by Skytrak, just a hint on their site of a photometric (?) Launch monitor. However themselves provide two data confirming the limit of all these low cost systems that we have already discussed, that the poor reliability of the reading when the shot is not perfect. I mean the side angle, where accuracy is +/- 2 °, and to the side spin, +/- 250 rpm. This means that a shot that for example part to the right of the target of 2 ° can be presented on the screen as well (2 ° -2 ° = 0 °) or from 4 ° to the right (2 ° + 2 ° = 4 °). But most incredible is the admitted error on side spin. The curve that makes the ball to the right or left (hook, slice) depends on the side spin. Considers that a side spin of 500 rpm is sufficient to give the ball a slice or hook very pronounced: the fact that the instrument can read 250 or 750 means that you will never know what the true parable that would have had your shot. For comparison, the percentage error of the spin side of the GC2 is equal to 0.5%, then 2.5 rpm more or less the same condition".
So what do you Skytrak owner think about this analysis?
    Is that correct?
    Which are your impressions?
    Thanks

Sounds about right. SkyTrak is the most affordable option in this category right now though, so it is what it is. I plan on using my SkyTrak until something better (ES16?) is released and the reviews come out that it is actually as good as it looks on paper.

I came into this market just trying to find something to help me practice, and as I evolve in my game I'm sure I'll want more from my launch monitor. Luckily technology should evolve and provide us with more options at reasonable < $3500 prices.

What are you trying to achieve with it?
Their specifications would mean different things for someone who wants to hit balls, work on consistency and play fun indoor games, compared to someone who wants to find minute differences in shafts, lofts, clubs, balls or heads.
you have to remember what audience this is for. Complaining about their specs compared to $10,000 setups is not a fair comparison.
If you did the reverse and compared it to Optishot - Skytrak would look like a paragon of accuracy!

Statement is very accurate. I was a Skytrak owner and now I own a GC2. I can 100% say that the GC2 is much more accurate, it will display the curvature of my shot much better than skytrak did. With skytrak (ST), I would get severe hooks (I'm a lefty with a draw on irons and fade on woods). The ST would definitely over exaggerates those reading. Where as with the GC2 it's not nearly as pronounced and much more accurate.

There's no questions, ST is still an early development product.at a very cheap price point compared to a new GC2 (1/3 the cost). That being said, in my opinion, ST is great for practice when at the range where you can truly see your shot shape and not just trust the variance's that the ST algorithm implements

When I purchased my Skytrak I knew the margin of errors. Given the price, it didn't bother me at all. Lawyer's examples maximize the possible margin of errors. Do I believe it happens all the time? Not at all. When I hit a draw, Skytrak tells it is. When I push/slice the ball right, Skytrak tells the same thing. It was proven (at least to myself) on the practice range. Also, Skytrak's estimates match my feelings indoors, also. I don't remember a single occasion in which Skytrak tells an opposite ball shape.
Is Skytrak perfect? No. it seems to estimate more curvature. Carry distance could be a little shorter/longer depending on your ball flight conditions. I feel that way. But, it is very consistent and reliable in its performance. I rely on my Skytrak when I work on my swing indoors. Later I hit balls outdoors and I realize that Skytrak was correct about my ball flights.
With $2,000 spent, Skytrak does its job as advertised. It is worth every cent, I feel.

I'm with Joko. Happy with SkyTrak for the time being until the next thing comes along. Frustrating as all get out waiting for Sim but its only been 1 1/4 years so whats another few months!

Sidespin for GC2 is +/- 50rpm, not 5, I believe? But ya, GC2 is the clear leader in accuracy but costs ~3X as much.

ST accuracy is def more than adequate for a $2k device. However customer service/support and software (i.e., sim - don't consider WGT real sim) def less than adequate for a $2k++ (including ongoing annual fees for various things) product.

If you want more details on the limits, check the rapsodo website...

We aim to provide data-driven sports technologies and robust analytics that allow players and coaches to better understand performance through reliable data.

                  Ball speed +- 1 mph
                  VLA +- 1 degree
                  HLA +- 2 degrees
                  Side spin +- 250rpm
                  Backspin +- 250rpm

or if you get really bored you can read the patent for the device

An example embodiment includes an apparatus for monitoring launch parameters of an object. The apparatus includes a transmitter optical subassembly (TOSA), a receiver optical subassembly (ROSA), a processing unit, and a camera. The TOSA includes at least one laser source configured to transmit a laser sheet along an expected flight path of an object. The ROSA is configured to receive light reflected from the object. The processing unit is configured to estimate a velocity of the object based at least partially on the received light. The camera is configured to capture one or more images of the object at a time in which the object passes through a field of view of the camera according to the estimated velocity.

And for comparison, here are the gc2 limits

Vertical Launch Angle: +/- 0.2 degrees
                    Ball Speed: +/- 0.5 mph
                    Back Spin: +/- 50.0 rpm
                    Side Spin: +/- 50.0 rpm
                    Azimuth: +/- 1.0 degrees

Optishot doesn't measure the ball, only club head data

                        club head speed +-2 mph

                        face angle +-1.5 degrees

                        club path +- 1.9 degrees

                          Thanks Andy,
I was more trying to compare the fact that the technology involved dictates the abilities... and of course the cost.

Skytrak's issue isn't accuracy, its lack of sim option, chipping is poor and customer service is worse than the DMV.

The chipping is not poor, just is poor in E6 and Skytrak range. The data is good. As has been reported several times by bubba who has the TGC beta

Thanks Benny. Mario probably missed my posts. Pitching works well with all software. Soft chips and putts work as well with TGC.

I seriously wonder why soft chips and putts work well on TGC but not on other SWs including ST's own range???

Putts work fine on E6 and PG. Its just a programming issue. Soft chips should work on them as well.

Just to clarify all chips and putts work with ST and TGC including soft chips. Chipping and putting work with ST and E6 as well as PG. Its only the soft chips that are not working well with E6 or PG. the firmware is not the issue. It's the programming trigger from the software to allow ST to be in the short game mode. I am sure E6 and PG will get it working before launch.

What about WGT? You would think they would have these fixed within their app already given it's a full release and they have charged people already?
