  • How long will you wait??

Really just kind of a poll for those of you that STILL have a skytrak.

Are you considering getting rid of your skytrak? If so, under what conditions?
    1-Less than 3 months (i.e., already looking for another device/waiting for ES16 reviews) Votes 9, 32%
2-Within the year (it's going to get you through the current offseason, but plan to bail after) Votes 11, 39%
3-Never, your happy with it as is. Votes 7, 25%
4-Your not happy but keeping it because you are not willing to pay more for something else. Votes 1, 4%

When I pre-ordered my skytrak, I was very happy because i knew what it was capable of, I knew what hardware was required, I knew what I wanted the unit for and I was content with the other sim options I had at the time (opti and p3). However, after using the skytrak and seeing just how off the other two systems could be at times, i am really now wanting a ball tracking system with true sim play and have gotten really tired of the waiting game. Especially since others have said that TGC is ready to go. FWIW, i believe the one I have is accurate and I am satisfied with the performance. I thought I would be satisfied with just an accurate device with a range, but after having it for some time, I'm really wanting sim play.

So I'm the option 2 crowd or 1 if i could find a good deal on another device.

    Agree with above...

Honestly, my SkyTrak has spent the majority of the winter unused as on a good day it reads one ball then misses the next 10 until I reset it. I read somewhere about moving the ball back for high speed swings and figured I'd give it a try even though my iron swing speed on a good day is 85 and that at least has it working and able to be used consistently.

To answer the original question I'm at 0. I have a few sets of clubs to sell over the next few weeks and when I am in the picture taking mode for those I am also listing my SkyTrak. At this point I am just soured on the whole experience even though it is at least functional now and once you have a bad taste you just do. It just seems all this hassle about sims is over how SkyGolf can grab another possible 80 bucks a year.

So after 16 posts (small sample obviously) we are at the following.
Option 1-31% (5) Looking to get out now
Option 2-50% (8) Out in less than a year
      Option 3-13% (2) Happy
Option 4-6% (1) Stuck for the time based on cost
I wish this forum had a poll option.

SkyTrak_Seth take it for what it's worth i guess. Only a few who are unhappy or possibly a representation of the overall crowd who purchased the device and aren't on forums or haven't found this one yet to make their opinions known.

I am option 1 as well. Waiting to see how much of ES16 is vapourware and if it's 'real' then I may jump ship come March. Reading between the lines there seems to be a relationship breakdown between the SIMs and Skytrak resulting in the delays and who knows if they will actually be released. A few forum members have been adamant that the software has been ready since August and given product software cycles and the importance of getting to market I am quite surprised we haven't seen SIM integration prior to the PGA show. Given the current customer sentiment Skygolf has a very small window to bring a solution to market otherwise no matter what type of SIM integration they do bring to market it will be too late.

We may all have to come to the grim realization that the C-suite at SkyGolf has determined SkyTrak is not economically viable. I suspect some of you have been in meetings where an idea/proposal is shot down, not on its technical merits, but simply because the accountants can't make it work. The point here is simple - it is entirely conceivable that SkyGolf has decided that the addressable market for SkyTrak simulation is not sufficiently large to justify the additional costs associated future R&D, marketing, engineering etc. To be very clear, I have no direct knowledge of the goings-on at SkyGolf, but SkyTrak is starting to smell like an abandoned product.

Also, it is not in SkyGolf's interest to let us know that they've arrived at this conclusion. If my theory is correct, SkyGolf will continue to try to sell Skytrak with WGT in an effort to recoup their original investment. At some point they will discontinue SkyTrak support and the resale value of the unit will drop to $1.50.

Or.... TCG for SkyTrak will be released any day now and it will be awesome and we'll all be thrilled with the chipping and putting and....

I don't believe they've abandoned skytrak at all. I just think that as with most every other development project that I've been around, they have struggled to get the work done on time.

Right now I'm #3. I bought it mostly for the virtual range so I can work on my swing during the off season and between rounds during the season. I don't have a SIM room setup at home right now....just a mat, net and the Skytrak that I either setup outside or in the garage. I was never intrigued with SIM play....as I would rather get out on the course. So for me...WGT fulfills any desire I have for sim play.

Only thing that may change that is if/when something else comes out that's the same price, that is more accurate and offers more options.

I'm number 2 at the moment. But only if they (seth) at least keeps feeding us some Informationen. I would have been a 1 last fall already without him. So 2 keeping us in the loop 1 if not.

Option 3 for me as I bought it as a launch monitor and not as a simulator so not really bothered about sim play and the expectations and frustrations that most people on here are experiencing.

As a launch monitor and practice tool it is really good for me and matches up to my numbers seen on flightscope, trackman and zelocity launch monitors. Therefore for the money I paid I'm perfectly happy with it.

I could be wrong, but I think the company doing the development work isnt Skygolf/Skytrak, but a company called sport-trak. http://www.sport-trak.com/

You're correct, which is the company that Seth works for, which is why he has little sway (presumably) over the Skygolf product decision making process.

I agree with Sascha1818. As long as I am given reasonable reassurances that TGC or PG are in fact going to be available in the near future I am willing to wait longer than 3 months. However, if lack of information continues as it has for the last month I will definitely be pursuing other options.

I'm in camp 3; I bought Skytrak as an affordable LM for practice, didn't have much interest in SIM play. It would be somewhat cool, if and when it shows up and works correctly, but I wouldn't lose sleep if it didn't.

I'm happy with what I got, both functionality and value for money -wise.

If another device (like ES16) came out with accurate club and ball data, I'd probably look at it.

I sent an email out to SportTrak for the heck of it - and they are saying they 'anticipate' both PG and TGC to be available this month (along with TruGolf). I got a response in about 10 minutes. I'm not sure what to think about that, in fact I was a little stunned as I didn't think I'd get any reply back.

I like what you are saying and am also a bit skeptical. It wouldn't surprise me if they were waiting to make an announcement at the big golf show this month lets just hope that is what it is.

Wow, we haven't really heard from them yet as far as I know. Nice shot in the dark there, sometimes you just gotta ask and see haha. Obviously not getting excited on that yet as we've heard that before but its nice to hear something new from a new source. Nice work. And I'm in the number 2 boat as well. Its been great and accurate on the range and using the e6 demo, but I definitely bought mine back in May with the thoughts of there being legit SIM software on it soon and growing weary.

Option 1: I've been a huge supporter of the Skytrak since day 1. But now am very discouraged. I have my name on a list for a used GC2. Or might purchase the ES16 end of Jan if it is released. Just want to know that chipping and putting work well with ES16 before I buy. Then plan to sell my Skytrak for a good deal! If TGC is released tomorrow for Skytrak I'm at the point where I might even hold off purchasing the software so I can consider ES16. Skytrak has waited too long for release and making everyone consider other options.

Option 3. I have no problems with mine and find it very accurate.
