Update and Sneak Peak at v2.2

Hey everybody,

I'm finally back. It's been an insane last few weeks. I wanted to pop in quickly and give an update on a few things:

1) v2.2 - We had an unexpected body of development work come out of the PGA show. It had to do with how the SkyTrak unit communicates with the software and was a huge change, but it is certainly for the best and improves the connection stability. The changes we made will directly affect all of our simulation partners as well and make for a more enjoyable game play experience. I have been in contact with some of you and used your accounts to test the data sync issues - I have been successful on all accounts, syncing data in every connection scenario possible. We still have a few small items to take care of in the background and I hate to release anything on a Friday, but here's the deal - I will give you guys what I have right now for PC to play around with over the weekend. Install at your own risk and please don't call customer support on it. I'll be back on Monday to handle any and all concerns.

2) TGC - This is out of my hands. I can tell you that everything is ready on the integration side and the team is working to get it up for sale. Please don't shoot the messenger.

3) WGT - The driver distance issue has been fixed! This will be included in their next update.

4) TruGolf & Perfect Golf - I can count the number of outstanding issues on one hand. Again, I just can't personally comment on release.


I know that some of this is not what you want to hear, but please understand that while my avatar says "SkyTrak", I'm not the company and I don't control every facet of it. I'm just here to get feedback from avid golfers on our software and to try and help out whenever I can. I'd like for my role here to shift back to that as opposed to fielding questions and complaints and release dates and company practices. We've all seen first-hand that it's just not productive in the end and creates a hostile and non-constructive environment that, to be honest, isn't that fun to walk into. Those are often legitimate gripes, but there are just too many players in the game for me to make personal promises. I want to focus more on things within my control where I can provide you the most rapid, helpful, and solid response possible. I truly believe that we can and will continue to make this product better and better.

Got 2.2.2 on my ipad.. Took it to the range this morning on direct mode.. All seemed fine !! Got home exported the session for posterity !! Why a pdf when an excel spreadsheet would have been better !! Connected at home in Network mode.. No sync......Just says Sync in progress ( Please Wait) If I wait any longer the battery will go flat in the Skytrak !
Help !! This is not very satisfactory .. You should be able to upload this manually !!! FIX please .. PS I tried to alter that air temperature in the session settings as it is only 35 degrees.. It wouldnt let me change the first digit !! FIX !!!

Connected up again 2 hours later and it worked ..Would still prefer to export in Xcel format as having to convert the PDF is a pain !! I can easily afterwards remove any shots and get the averages right !! It would be nice if you could play WGT without having to be connected as I can only use it on the driving range and there is no Wifi .....

1) I'll see about changing export to Excel. That was a business decision though, not sure if it still holds.

2) WGT is browser-based, so I don't think there is any way around it. Just like "I want to watch Netflix even though I don't have internet"

To change the first digit of the air temp then just hold your finger on the value, click 'select all' and then input the temperature you want

After a few days of hitting since the release please mark down another +1 for finding 2.2 to have more bugs than previous issues. Like previous users noted I'm also experiencing the occasional freezes- the top light will remain red and laser wouldn't come on. Ending the session and restarting the unit/app will get back to normal. This has never happened with prior versions.

I only use my iPad for Skytrak and so I've always just locked up my iPad with the Skytrak app's range view on the screen. When I would go to hit my next session I just unlock the iPad and power on my skytrak and in a few moments all the lights are green and I'd be hitting. I now also notice that when re-starting a new session I sometime have to back out to the main app screen to get the top light to turn green. If I stay on the range mode the unit will sit for 5-10 minutes with the top light red. This never used to happen. Both these observations are minor but wanted to point them out to help in de-bugging the next version!

I was able to reproduce this. Basically for now, don't leave the SkyTrak app, turn off the iPad screen, or lock the screen while using it. I think it's an issue with not able to complete the license check while in the range. Currently you need to be on the dashboard for unit connection. I'll get that fixed.

I experienced a freeze with my Windows PC. All three lights were green, but shots wouldn't register until I hit Replay. The last recorded shot replayed, and then the device resumed normal function. I had previously experienced some individual shots not registering, but in each case a re-try was successful.

Was wondering if with the new version for the IPAD if something was change in the resolution. Last night when I opened up 2,2,2 on my IPad my picture on my screen was messed up. part of the left information box was on the right side and the right smaller box wasn't even visible.. didn't get see this with the PC version, but I haven't actually loaded the released 2.2.2 version I'm still using the earlier 2,2,2 version that was pre-released. Anyone else see this?... stranage

Looks normal to me on my iPad air. Try the full release version and let me know.

Have given Skytrak a good workout today now my iPad is using v 2.2.2 & it's mainly a thumbs up Seth.

I haven't been able to sync since before Christmas but today, on & off the network, everything syncs perfectly.

Have even been to the range in direct mode & all the shots have synced once back home. Great work Seth & the skytrak team. 👍👍👍

The only niggle is the laser takes longer both in direct & network mode to come back on between shots. Not outrageously long but hey ho, We've got shots syncing, I can live with it.

I'll add more tomorrow after I give it another workout ;-0

Great news on the sync!! Yeah, in reality it's actually no different than it was before. Previously, we just used the app to say when you could hit the next shot, now we use the light on the unit. It's really the same amount of time, just looks different

How did you use the app previously? I do not recall there being an icon and it even takes what seems like a couple seconds after the ball stops rolling, for the light to come on.

Can we please go back to the way it was previously? It helps to minimize the delay between shots by giving us time to place the ball as we're watching the ball flight and looking at the data.

Actually, the reason for the change was to make sure there was no cross-over/confusion between the app and the hardware. Each have a different point in time where you are able to hit your next shot. This is part 1 of 2 of the "why isn't my skytrak triggering?" To put it very simply, now we just use the top light/laser to tell you when the coast is clear...unfortunately with a bit of a delay as to when the laser comes on (although not a delay as to when you can actually hit your next shot - make sense?)

Anyone still having issues with freezing(red laser not coming back on)?. Was using it for a couple hours yesterday and mine froze several times. It was getting frustrating so I even deleted the app and reinstalled it...still froze. Also has it been mentioned that there is a bug with export session? Carry and total distances are off.

Yes, all weekend while working on distances with students. It was frustrating and seems to be the first time in a year Ive had an issue. Thank goodness for an update coming soon.
