  • Update and Sneak Peak at v2.2

    Hey everybody,

    I'm finally back. It's been an insane last few weeks. I wanted to pop in quickly and give an update on a few things:

    1) v2.2 - We had an unexpected body of development work come out of the PGA show. It had to do with how the SkyTrak unit communicates with the software and was a huge change, but it is certainly for the best and improves the connection stability. The changes we made will directly affect all of our simulation partners as well and make for a more enjoyable game play experience. I have been in contact with some of you and used your accounts to test the data sync issues - I have been successful on all accounts, syncing data in every connection scenario possible. We still have a few small items to take care of in the background and I hate to release anything on a Friday, but here's the deal - I will give you guys what I have right now for PC to play around with over the weekend. Install at your own risk and please don't call customer support on it. I'll be back on Monday to handle any and all concerns.

    - Added unit internal leveling information
    - Added player ball markers in multi-player challenges
    - Added Undefined Club option
    - Added ability to choose club during challenges
    - Improved Profile History
    - Improved Device Connection Stability
    - Improved Data Sync process (indicator now in Profile)
    - Improved local database
    - Adjusted scale of shot plotting graph
    - Added Alignment Mode reminder
    - Added fine-tune adjustment to Target Challenge
    - Added loading screen to enter Practice
    - Added side spin to session export
    - Refreshed Challenge Dashboard Icons
    - Temporarily disabled Stats
    - Numerous behind-the-scenes bug fixes





    2) TGC - This is out of my hands. I can tell you that everything is ready on the integration side and the team is working to get it up for sale. Please don't shoot the messenger.

    3) WGT - The driver distance issue has been fixed! This will be included in their next update.

    4) TruGolf & Perfect Golf - I can count the number of outstanding issues on one hand. Again, I just can't personally comment on release.


    I know that some of this is not what you want to hear, but please understand that while my avatar says "SkyTrak", I'm not the company and I don't control every facet of it. I'm just here to get feedback from avid golfers on our software and to try and help out whenever I can. I'd like for my role here to shift back to that as opposed to fielding questions and complaints and release dates and company practices. We've all seen first-hand that it's just not productive in the end and creates a hostile and non-constructive environment that, to be honest, isn't that fun to walk into. Those are often legitimate gripes, but there are just too many players in the game for me to make personal promises. I want to focus more on things within my control where I can provide you the most rapid, helpful, and solid response possible. I truly believe that we can and will continue to make this product better and better.

    Ok so my testing with the new app here are the issues I had.

    The Broken:
    1. the sync issues but it was simply that it said it was syncing and it had already completed when I went online to check all the shots were there even though the app said syncing please wait.

    2. Switching from left handed to right handed seems fixed but not really, it never happened......but only because of #3 happening instead

    3. The app just randomly loses connection to the device now and you get two red lights. To fix it you have to restart the app, you can leave skytrak on. This is while using it in direct mode with a usb connection. This happened anywhere from the first 30 seconds to 5minutes into using the app but it happened 5 times in a row and I decided to try network mode instead as my previous suspicions were the left to right swapping issue was a usb bug. Using the app with skytrak in network mode without a usb I never once had the disconnection issue, I even plugged the usb in while in network mode to keep it charged and it still worked fine for over 3 hours. I then went back to direct mode with usb and it lost connection after three shots.

    4. The History section was very hit or miss for me, I started new sessions a few times in my 4+ hours of testing and some would show up in the history section and others never did. The first few hours worth of shots never showed up it was really strange, I need to further test it as I wasn't paying attention to it until the very end of my testing but there was definitely something fishy going on with it.

    5. Had some random "this game has crashed" crash logs popup and then the app would just crash while editing settings and such , Ill submit the logs next time it happens

    The good:
    1. I really enjoyed the greens on the range they were a needed addition props for that
    2. adding the side spin to exports was great too
    3. The new images in the challenges screen are far more appealing great job
    4. The level works great and gives peace of mind things are setup good.

    The still needed
    1. Shot apex heights and decent angles are still a very useful stat that is missing
    2. The side angle view would be useful
    3. The shot plotting is too zoomed out for most clubs, zoom feature would be helpful
    4. Dual Monitor support - The big numbers screen is great but it would super useful if it could be moved to a separate monitor in the windows version
    5. The way the top scores in challenges works needs some attention. Such as closest to pin with 150yards isnt really fair to compare to 100 yards in overall leader boards. Maybe just have it keep all time stats in 10 yard intervals. You can still set it to 154 yards for instance but it will fall under the 150-160 yard challenges when keeping best overall scores. Same with target challenge.
    Longest drive you could have a leaderboard for each club, some people actually like to see who can hit a wedge the furthest ect.
    6. Re-nameable clubs - just having 8iron-1 8iron-2 is pretty lame and not very useful, being able to name them would be much better, 6.im sure this would cause issues with the 360 site but at least it could be used for exports when doing fittings ect. then printing them.

    (just my suggestions of things I would like to see in order of importance to me take it for what it is but great work on the current update!!!!)

      Thanks for the detailed report! Yeah, definitely send a log in the event of a crash, or even the disconnect you are seeing. I put in another response but it's worth noting again - how long is your USB cable? I've recently seen the unit dropping connection in some cables longer than 10-15 feet (interruption in signal). If yours is short, also try setting your computer to high performance and see if that solves the problem. Finally, are you 100% sure you were logged into the app when you did those "missing" session? I've seen the data fail to sync, but never fail to store in the local database.

      I was suspicious of my usb cable as well while typing this. I had never considered it before when I was having the left to right swapping issue but now that it was just a straight disconnection I was considering it being a cause. I was planning on trying it without my extension next session to see if that was the issue. I am using a 6 foot cable with a 10 foot extension. It is a quality extension with external power source and have used it in my theater before with mice and game pads for gaming with no issues but that doesn't mean anything. It very well could be the reason. I will definitely give that a go now that you mention it. It is really not an issue now as I got a better router a couple weeks ago and have wifi in my garage now so using it in network mode is an easy fix as long as it works with whatever sim option I go with.

      Ok guys, thank you kindly for the testing, feedback, and logs. I think I've responded to everything in this thread so far. If anyone that still has a sync issue wants to be super-proactive about getting it resolved and it willing to give me their SkyGolf 360 log in, as well as a copy of their database file, that will help us recreate the issue on our end. The problem with this issue is that we are down to a very small number of accounts here, and only those accounts are able to make it break. Send me a PM and I'll tell you what I need and how to get it.

        I can't even download the update. Get an error saying the signature of skytraksetup.exe is corrupt or invalid.

          You should be able to view details and "Allow anyway". That's what I had to do.

        Yep same here. I had the same error. I thought there was something wrong, as the first time I tried the download it stalled for some reason. But then, then second and third attempts at downloading, the error happened again. I ran the skytraksetup.exe file anyway and it all worked fine.

          I had this same error when clicking link on Windows 10 PC running Microsoft Edge browser. I then went to my Windows 7 PC and downloaded the file without issue. So it must be a security setting in browser. Try Chrome browser or Firefox or a different computer if you can't get it to download. Or go find the security setting and disable it!..haha!

            Thanks for providing the update. I use on a PC Win7x64. I only use the usb cable connection. The issue I have is that it will not connect via usb; unless I disable my wired NIC. Why is that? I would prefer to keep the NIC alive for wired internet access.

              If USB won't work then maybe disconnect from WiFi. Go into your Skytrak connection settings and click Network Mode. Once you get the network screen to pop up, click Create New Network. Then purposely input false SSID/PW. Then go into your WiFi settings and disconnect/forget device for the RAPSODO Skytrak device. This will make sure your device will only connect via USB and not attempt to connect through WiFi. That's only if you don't want Skytrak connecting via WiFi.

              druid68, That's the setup I use here at the office, so it should work fine. Trying plugging your SkyTrak unit (turned off) to the computer via USB. Then turn it on. In the device manager, what does it come up as? Should be a WinUSB device.

            Guys, that is a Windows/browser security feature...they don't want to you downloading .exe's. Just click on "view details" and then install anyway (what Tekbud said)

              Dear Seth, sorry for the off topic, but is it possible to play WTG on the PC or it's only avaiable for APPLE?
              If not are skytrak working on it?
              The other games that Skytrak are working it's for PC?

              The sync issue has improved, but there are some stragglers out there that the test v2.2 build did not resolve for them. I need to make sure that it is resolved before we officially release another version. The good news is that there have been many folks on this forum that have given me access to their accounts in order to try to reproduce on our side...it's proven extremely valuable since we have added additional logs regarding sync. It's all hands on deck until it's fixed.

                I only use iOS for ST app so am unable to test if sync problems have been fixed until the iOS version comes out. So for people like me, given there are so many new features in v2.2 would it not make sense to release v2.2 for iOS now and while in the background continue to work to try to fix all potential sync issues (now w additional feedback/logs from iOS users) and when sync is finally all fixed release another v2.2.1 that addresses all sync problems?

                I know I am fairly new with my ST, but what is the deal with the secrecy of the release of the 2.2v software, and also the lockbox around the release of TGC sim play?? We know more about national security and politics than we do about something we have all invested $2k in a product. I feel like we are all waiting for Christmas morning to come, but none of us know how far away Christmas is.

                I learned something interesting today that might help others in the future. After installing the PC version of 2.2 the app was telling me that I had to register in 30 days or the software would be disabled (and I couldn't access advanced features). Even though my subscription is up to date I could not get the registration to go through. I was on the phone with Skytrak support for a while and we went through every possible connection type possible, every combo of connection type, etc.

                Then I remembered that I had set the date on my PC back a few months so that I can remain a member of Wade Hampton on the E6 demo. When you change your date/time drastically it causes SSL connections to fail. I changed my PC back to today's date, launched and connected to my Skytrak and the registration completed immediately.

                So, if you are running the E6 demo with the date on your PC set back to avoid expiration you'll need to change it to the correct date while you first use the new version of the software.
