  • Getting Started with Skytrak (and the Net Return?) in England

    Hi all,

Long time lurker and first time poster here (Ian).

I’d be grateful for any help/advice anyone can offer.

I’m in Southport (near Liverpool) in England and about to push the button on a Skytrak.

Our garage is low, so I’ll be setting up in our front room (lounge).

I thought of going with the full set up (PC, projector, netting, impact screen). But that would pretty much take the room out of use, and also stretch/exceed my budget.

So (for the time being at least) I’m thinking of going with the Net Return Pro Series Package on the Skytrak website:

I’m hoping to run it (for the moment at least) from the Skytrak app on an Iphone 6s, connected to a Panasonic 40 inch tv we already have 45 degrees from my back (right) foot.

But I have a few questions/concerns, I’d be grateful for help with:

    1.
Does anybody use Skytrak with a Net Return? Does it work okay visualising the shots with no image in front of you?

    2.
Will the Skytrak app work ok/well with an iphone 6s?

I also have some money set aside for a new laptop. But I wanted to wait until the sim options (TGC/Perfect Golf etc) were released, so I’m aware of the spec I’ll need.

I’ve always been an Apple fan and would prefer if possible to stay with a Mac. But I’m not sure if this would be compatible with the software.

    3.
Assuming the 6s works with the App, would I be better wiring it to the TV (I presume I need something that goes from the phone to a USB point on the Tv – is it called a lightning cable?). Or would it work through the home network and Apple TV?

    4.
The Net Return comes with a standard 6 foot by 6 foot mat. Is this big (long) enough?
Does anyone know the quality of the mat. I’ve had problems with my right wrist in the past and would rather get a really good quality mat.

Any other general advice gratefully received.

Thanks in advance for any help. It’s much appreciated.

    Hi Ian,
You're not far away from me (Warrington) so if you want to test out a unit first before you buy one then let me know and we could meet at a range somewhere close to test it out to see if you like it etc.

As for your lounge idea then the initial thought would be how high are your ceilings? Will you be able to freely swing the longer clubs in particular as I know my living room has a few ceiling marks from some lovely 2 iron practice swings!!

As for the iPhone part then I'm not certain but I use mine with an iPad Mini 4 that I picked up relatively cheaply (£300ish) and it works really well and you then wouldn't need to wire it up to the TV and can locate the iPad just offset behind the net return setup to give you a little bit of visual reference.

Hi Ian, I have that exact setup in my garage. As I'm standing at address I installed a 50" tv on the wall in front of me. The 6x6 mat is perfect in my opinion and the Netreturn is a fantastic product. As far as visualizing the shot, straight is straight. Enjoy!

Thanks for all your comments and help.

Andy, Thanks for the offer of trying the Skytrak. I,ve tried it at our local driving range (Leisure Lakes) and really liked it.
The feedback from others seems very positive now too.

I've swung a driver in the room and its (just about) okay.

Thanks again and All the Best. Ian.

Ian, the setup you're describing with TV in front is very similar to mine, see attached photo. I have no problem with visualizing shots, I doubt you will.

The areas you may have challenges with, imo, would be ceiling height, although its just about ok, mentally, you will probably find you don't swing as fast as outdoors with longer clubs, just be prepared for that, and without side bays on the net, be sure that the odd stray shot (we all have the...) doesn't do untold damage...
