Shot Shapes

I have seen a number of tips and tricks on how to correct distances. I'm looking forward to trying some of them, because my distances are off on all my shots. Have had customers come in and say the same thing. I currently have our settings as to what we are used to here in south-central Kansas, but that doesn't seem to be working on a consistent basis.

However, having said all of that what I am more concerned about is shot shapes. Before I purchased the SkyTrak unit I was slicing the heck out of my shots, especially with my driver. So I was EXTREMELY excited when I got the unit to go to work to find a correction to that problem this winter. I worked and worked and I could see a little progress on the "range", but not on WGT. So I was more than a little nervous when I got back to the "real" golf course. I was VERY surprised to see how I was hitting the golf ball. My driver was no longer slicing and I was playing baby fades and some draws. Even some shots when I wanted to do one or the other. I did not have many mis-hits and when I did I knew it was coming just after finishing my swing.

Even some of my irons were starting to draw, which I have never been able to do. So I was excited to come back to SkyTrak to see the same ball flight and shape as I was seeing on the course. Unfortunately, it still has me showing a pretty drastic "slice" and not a fade. I have an adjustable Callaway XR driver and I have changed all kinds of settings. I have used a Titleist driver a Taylor Made driver and a couple of knock off drivers. It doesn't really seem to matter. I consistently get a "slice" or even a duck hook on occasion. My irons are also showing power fades not necessarily slices.

I'm concerned that I'm not going to be able to make proper adjustments to get my shot right on SkyTrak and be able to see the same results on the course. Anyone else experience this? Thoughts?

the biggest test is hitting at the driving range. if you can see ball flight on both at the same time that might settle your nerves a bit

i hit mine in a dome for 1.5 hours and it was dead on with all but 2 shots. Amazing. I trust it completely at home and can work the ball both ways.

One of the biggest reasons I purchased it is that we don't have an outdoor driving range any longer. The course in the next town to the north has one, so I'm going to take it out there at some point to do some testing with it. I just haven't had a chance to get out there. I'm wondering if the lighting could have some issue with it as well??? The hitting area inside is not "well" lit.

You should be able to hit in a pitch-black room, so I don't think it is lighting. I bet one of two things is happening:

1) The software isn't reading the spin right. It's not necessary, but it always helps to align a mark on the ball toward the unit when you place the ball down. Lines are best, so balls with straight block lettering in the logo (Like Bridgestone or Pro-V1) work the best. Try placing the line vertical. If you don't get consistent results, switch it to horizontal. Each just seems to work better for a given player.

2) You're doing something different with your swing inside

No. 2 - It is certainly possible, but it sure doesn't "feel" different enough to see such dramatic differences from inside to out. Thanks for the tip on the lighting as I've wondered about that. I tried to keep it a littler darker to make the screen easier to see.

I will give a go with the different ball to see what that does. Thanks! Currently I'm hitting Nike balls with our other business logo on it which does have some very boxy features.

Could also be alignment or perhaps the unit not being level. I'd be interested to hear how the shot shapes and distances off the target line compare to the real world. I'm hoping to do the same soon to gather concrete evidence to support my distance and alignment concerns!
