Putting works 5% of the time in TGC with a SkyTrak

Like the title says... Everything seems to be working fine, but 95% of the time when I putt, the laser dot disappears, but the shot never registers. I've waited as long as 30 seconds and nothing.

The only times it MIGHT work is if I'm hitting a long putt, say 20ft+

Once the laser disappears and nothing happens, there are two ways to continue the round.

    1. Rewind the shot and hit an approach that is far away, or a gimme. If I hit one putt and it registers, but then I have to putt again, I'm screwed. It won't register the second putt, and I have to rewind, but then the chances of being able to get another putt to register are slim to none, so I have to...
    2. Completely exit the round, then restart it. This SUCKS because I'll get stuck in a loop of exiting and restarting, then getting frustrated and hitting a 50 foot putt off the green, just so I can chip it within gimme distance.

What is going on? The lighting in my garage is good, and all other shots register just fine during the day or night.

I have noticed lately that putts are registering no more than 50% of the time too. This never happens in the e6 demo or WGT. I am connected via a brand new USB cable and all shots register normally in full shot mode.

Try putting the ball 6-8 inches behind the laser dot. You will still get some miss reads but it's better than nothing

I should have mentioned that I tried every ball placement imaginable, and there is seemingly no difference. I'm not sure I tried a full 8 inches behind the dot, but I guess I can try that next time I'm out there. To be honest, I'm not very motivated to try again because I can't even play 2 holes without resetting the game 10 times.

I have played two full rounds and three holes with my son when we first got the software installed. I have not had any putting issues. I generally place my golf ball slightly in front of the red dot. We have had a couple of phantom putts like with other shots, but never one that I can remember not registering at all. He was putting with an Odyssey style smaller mallet putter that is black with a white face. I use an Odyssey Versa full mallet putter that is sliver.

I have tried using 4 different putters of varying shapes and colors, my black driver, my silver sand wedge, and my black gap wedge. Nothing changes.

How much Runoff do you have on your mat? I was running into the issue where there wasn't enough space and it was running off my mat too quickly. Try putting the Skytrak further back so you have more of a roll on your hitting surface and make sure it's level with the hitting surface.

Not much, so I'll have to try this. I can see this as being the potential issue.

It seemingly worked better the first time I played, and I think the Skytrak was back farther on the mat. Thanks.

Must admit I am tired of all these posts threads knocking the skytrak or TGC as if its a universal issue, I mean for goodness sake just look at the title of this thread - ridicilous.

Must admit I'm sick of people who inaccurately infer information from thread titles. I didn't say 'Putting works 5% of the time in TGC with a SkyTrak for every single user', just like I didn't say 'Putting works 5% of the time in TGC with a SkyTrak for me and me alone', because how would I know who it works for? All I can state is my problem.

What good is a forum if you can't post an issue and see if others are having similar problems? Good thing I did post, because others HAVE had putting issues, and their experience and recommendations have helped, unlike your literal shitpost.

I also contacted SkyTrak, but emailing them an isolated incident and going through 100 back and forth troubleshooting emails is not as efficient or helpful as posting the issue where other users can contribute and provide support.

If you think this thread is worthless, and your contribution to this thread is the least useful...

I'm lost, if your other post you stated:
      >>> Chipping and putting is fine, if not better than I expected.

      Did something change?

Unfortunately yes. The second time I played putting was pretty much completely broken.

It sounds like it might be due to lack of sufficient "runway" after the laser dot, which I will test next time I'm not on a real course.

After reading about all of the challenges people are having. I really have to say something that has been said before. TGC will produce a shot based on the information given by the sim. If the information is not complete or invalid the results will be skewed. Also if there is a problem with the communication between the sim and TGC, you will not have good results. When I have a problem with TGC, I know where to look. My sim or my enclosure is the problem. If the software is the problem, it would be a problem for everyone, not just you. One thing that hasn't been mentioned (that I have seen) TGC pulls a lot of information during game play from the internet. If you don't have a good internet connection, many bad things can happen. A GSA comrade of mine had a bad router. The signal was dropping every min or so. ( during normal computer use this would not be a problem or even noticed). This means that the game has to reload the whole course and game data every few minutes. CPU and memory works overtime and this can disrupt gameplay and cause freezing or crashes. Try playing the game in offline mode and see if you have the same problem. This may explain why ST has trouble duplicating certain issues. This may also explain why your ST driving range works but TGC has issues. People are wasting their time looking at TGC with putting or gameplay issues. My putting has been nothing short of perfect since I bought TGC and I am using the same software as you. You can't blame the bullet for killing someone. Just trying to help.

My connection is good and I played half the time online and half offline because I didn't want to do Q School with all my present issues.

The fact that all shots but putts work well makes me 80% sure that I didn't have enough roll out after the laser dot. It'll probably still be a couple days until I can test that theory though.

I knew the issue was with SkyTrak rather than TGC, but still had to mention all the variables, it's part of the basic troubleshooting procedure for any hardware or software problems.

Based on some ideas here I have adjusted my hitting mat so I have 2' of mat before the ball drops off it. Before I had maybe 1'. Also I am making sure my Skytrak is above the mat level (it's on screws off the mat). Hoping this will fix my issues.

Let us know if that has helped. I'll probably get around to testing it tomorrow.

It was better, but still multiple putts where the laser went away and either came back on itself or I had to reset it via club change. I am happy to say that the club change has never failed to work for me. Oddly enough tonight it didn't see 4 full swings, that was a first.

Nothing is perfect, but damn if it didn't happen on some of my better swings!

today I putted on the practice green in TGC, and the red laser dot stayed on the whole time. I played around with it for 15 minutes, but could not get one putt to register. I wonder if it has to do with the color of mat ( I have a beige flat carpet 20' long donwstairs that I tried. Or is it too much light downstairs, or I an odyssey putter that has white on it??? Any ideas

Bogey33 - what search words do you use to find that practice green? I've had virtually no time to use TGC since I bought it. Feeling very out of touch.

Discuss all you want. I am letting folks know that it is a ST bug and is being fixed hopefully very soon. Remember those that are new to the forum are reading the posts and may not know that a fix is around the corner.

I played tonight with a lot of runway and putting was better. If say about 75% success rate, which is still way too low. Hopefully whatever they're fixing works.

I'm using a Country Club Elite strip mat, and I wonder if using a full size mat would make a difference so the SkyTrak sees the ball on a more uniform background. Bad news is that it would cost like $300-$400 to find out, or I guess I can try just putting on a big slab of carpet.

Sounds like you are making progress. https://youtu.be/vcZn57CscM4 Here is a video with about 40 putts. Not my best putting but I dropped a few. I am sure once the kinks are worked out, your putting will be enjoyable like mine. I sunk one a few tournaments ago that I gave a 9 foot break on a 20 foot putt.

I am still having very little success with putting...... Is there light conditions that affect putting? I have a white head odyssey putter..does that affect it too? It's very frustrating...

I don't have a ST. I have GSA so some ST users will have to answer that one.

I have a question regarding putting. On the sim/protee version, are all the greens the same speed and firmness? Or is it like the retail version where greens can vary in firmness and speed from course to course?
