  • Best Golf Ball To Use With Skytrak?

I'm curious is there a recommended golf ball that should be used with Skytrak for better accuracy? I'd love to hear everyone's comments or recommendations.

I personally find I can get much more backspin when I use ProV1's versus some others I have tried like Hex Control. Results may vary????

I have been using the Callaway Chrome Soft with Truvis Technology. It is a good ball and it seems to me that the hexagons should make it easy for the skytrak to read the ball no matter how you put it down.

While these are indeed a good ball because it gives the camera more to pickup I must highly discourage the use of these balls for anyone with an impact screen. The red paint for the soccer spots rubs off easily on the screen and it is easily visible on the white screen. I started to notice is after about 10 shots and it was too late I already had faint pink marks on my screen. I haven't tried to clean it yet as its very faint and doesn't bother me so when I actually have to clean my screen I will see how it goes. I can only imagine how it would have been had I not noticed it right off the bat.

Amen! Same thing happened to me with my brand new screen. Luckily I noticed after only 2 shots and its not too bad.

ProV1's are much softer than Hex Controls. Hex Controls are Hex Hot's that were rebranded for sale at Costco's from what I can find on the internet.

I would think the soccer-ball-paint scheme balls would be great for Skytrak. I can't remember what ball has those markings.

As long as the ball is fresh, white, and has a good black mark on it (line, logo, etc), then it really doesn't matter. Assuming that criteria is met then that's the beauty of having a launch monitor that can measure spin accurately - try a bunch of different balls and see which one gives you the back spin you need!

I don't know that there is a "best" ball to use. I've used several and have had good luck with all of them. I've used Prov1X, I've used Snell, I've used Nike Soft, I've used Callaway Truvis, I've used KickX, I've used two different type of Bridgestone balls, with the latest being the B330-S (blue box). I think the other one was the B330-RXS. Hit a Pinnacle . . . Seems like there have been a couple of others that have been hit on it :-).

Ive had good luck with many brands and qualities of balls. I will recommend though you use fairly new balls and not use them a long time because you will start to damage your screen as the balls get scuffed up. I wouldnt use a ball with any kind of pen markings, personalizations or corporate logo types as these easily rub off onto the screen. Basic balls with the minimal basic logos are plenty enough markings for skytrak to pick them up, just face some of the markings towards the skytrak unit and you will be fine.

I'm just trying to get a feel what other sim golfers maybe using. My curiosity is getting the best of me. So far the ProV1's are showing to be ideal for swing and the Skytrak sim system but I am open to trying other options.

Hi, does anyone know if this will support foam balls? O plans to,support foam? I realize the result may not be that accurate, but this is something holding me back from buying one, and I believe others that swing indoors.

You'd think they could pick a ball like "almost golf" and tweak the software algorithms to get reasonably close, at least good enough for basic simulator play...

Yes you can use AlmostGolf balls - distances off by ~10% from real balls. Someone else on forum also suggested a better ball - the Qolf balls. However, nothing beats using real balls - as Seth says you can play around w different types of real balls to see which gives you best speed and spin features that fits your game best.

Awesome - thanks for the info. Any idea if the spin Is similar to a real ball too? Also does the Skytrak allow you to make adjustments to the simulation settings, such as add 110% power on shots to compensate for foam balls, elevation, etc? Similar to what optishots provides...

              Thanks again

We just got my dad a skytrak today as a gift and we were testing it behind his house. He had some regular balls and some of the almost golf balls I believe (don't remember if it was that or qolf) and I will agree with the 10% drop off in distance and the spin rates were lower for me the short time I used them. I was only getting like 4500ish spin with my 7 iron where I'm usually in the 6000s and 6500ish with my wedges where I'm usually in the 9000+. Again was only a very short sample size but thats what stuck out to me right away and will report back if I see anything different in the future. And you can add some boost on all your shots across the board in sim setting for the skytrak, but I will say to just make sure to narrow it in encase the spin is off a bit, that could end up throwing you off a bit more then you hoped for.

Just bought practice Pro V's and they seem to work well. Plus, they are pure white and don't mark the impact screen.

Bringing back an old thread but has anyone tried reflective golf balls? I am talking the high visibility ones that have reflective particles on them. I ask because I was recently hitting balls in my garage and tried my wifes purple reflective nike balls. They were picked up way more consistently even after getting quite dirty. I may buy a couple of kinds of these reflective balls and experiment unless someone here has some experience.

Seth took my answer - the most important part is a clean, brand new, ball. Mostly to protect the screen.

Don't sweat it, I revived this thread as it is still relevant to many. I am finding I get quicker reads with a reflective golf ball. I am still experimenting but if anyone else wants to give it a go, could be a good solution for some people with ball reading issues. People that have white walls in the camera shot background might be especially helped if this is true.

All it takes is a new white ball with a black line. Recommend just using a decent tour ball since you can't really...or shouldn't really lose a ball in a sim.
