  • Skytrak + Perfect Golf or TGC

    Hi Everyone,

New to the board, just received my skytrak + net return yesterday

Super excited, love the unit so far. Want to get a simulation software.

I'm between TGC and Perfect Golf. Main uses for both:

    1) Play variety of courses on my own
    2) Have friends over to play friendly matches etc
    3) Eventually play online tournaments etc.

I assume both have the ability to do the above. I have read reviews on both, but want some input. I am also scared of the $1k lifetime pricetag on TGC. Thats a huge commitment (I love golf), and I'm scared that in a year or so the novelty of a sim unit wears off. Maybe this fear is unfounded, but I'm sure someone previously shared that sentiment.

As for PG, $250 for the year subscription wouldn't break the bank, if I still love it, I can shell out $1k later for TGC.

Let me know if I have it all wrong and should just jump head first into TGC. Or if buying PG for 1 year $250 is a better move.

Any major pro's or con's for going in each direction?

    Thanks!

Skytrak support told me that the license cannot be transferred. I am pretty sure that means it cannot be transferred to another skytrak but could be sold/transferred to another device from another vendor.

My biggest complaint with TGC is that it seems very geared to single player mode. I wish it was a little more clear on whose turn it is to hit, maybe only show that persons name when they are hitting, not a listing of everyone in the group with an extra box near their name. It would also help the pace of play if you could see how far you have left to the hole and who is next to hit on the shot analysis screen.

Thats interesting... What happens if I send a ball screaming through my skytrak and buy another one... Doesn't make much sense if you ask me. I'll reach out to protee to confirm and report back!

If you buy another one it probably goes on your same account, at least i would hope and then you would be able to use your license. protee didnt seem to have answers as to what skytrak's policy was.

another vote for TGC. However, I think it falls into two different reasons for each one. Until TGC version 2.0 comes out it is not that friendly with multiplayer - meaning no different tees, etc. However, I believe JNPG is better for mulitiplayer so when the cold weather hits in Kentucky I might rent JNPG to play with others and keep TGC for the tour. Hopefully, version 2.0 of TGC will be out before dec of 2017.

Just going to jump in here guys hope that is ok? I have also just got a skytrak and want to purchase some simulation software. Does TGC or any others have the option of having a multiplayer nearest the hole on a signature hole like 17th at sawgrass for example? If that is true about transferring the one time purchase licence from a skytrak to a gc2 that is great news as I might look to change further down the line. When I have spoken to skytrak they say it can be transferred once from one different computer to another which i think is harsh if it is supposed to be a one time license fee

I have both TGC and JNPG and been playing on tours for about 1yr now.
Both are great and both tours are extremely well run but I much prefer JNPG. For me, it's physics and realism, especially little bumps and runs around the green and putting which feels better.
Support for different tee boxes is important for me with two kids and a wife who play golf, for many it's not an issue at all.

I rarely play TGC now as I have to prioritise my tour rounds but when I do have time, I really enjoy the ghost ball and commentary, which is missing with JNPG.
It's very personal, read up on both, definitely watch videos of both - load on youtube including a couple of comparisons, check out the tours and either way you'll absolutely love it.
A nice decision to make and you can't really go wrong.

Getting a SkyTrak soon, and will be going with TGC to go with it. Watch YouTube videos on JNPG and TGC, both look good. I've been Adam of TGC since it came out and just bought the PC version to check it out. Can't wait to get the sim version.
