  • SkyTrak - Side Spin

Does anyone have issues with the side spin readings with your SkyTrak? When I use Skytrak, it says I have a massive draw/hook and when I go to the course, I play a baby draw at the most (mostly straight). I was just curious if there is something wrong with my setup. I am using the same ball and I have the case with the level so I presume everything is setup correctly. I am developing some pretty bad habits and I am always missing greens and sometimes fairways to the right because I think the ball is going to come back.

Has anyone encountered this? If so, are there any suggestions on how I can change my setup to help match my actual ball flight on the course?

Only sure thing to do is take your ST to the range and compare ST ball flight to actual ball flight. If it's dramatically different then something might be wrong w your ST. If same or similar then something is wrong w your swing you might not have been aware of.

I will try this next time I play a round. I typically only go to the range to warm up before I play 18. However, I've never seen the type of draw/hooks ST is consistently showing when I hit balls at the course.

Use laser and and an alignment rod to see where ST is aiming.

I currently do this. I use a laser and two alignment rods actually.

I'll second this. This is the first step to do and only way to really tell if there is something wrong with your Skytrak or setup.

if skytrak is not aligned correctly, shouldn't it only affect launch angles and not spin?

To my knowledge if your not aligned correctly to the skytrak you would put more side spin on resulting in a draw or fade or in my case hook/slice

I read somewhere on here once before that SkyTrak_Seth said that an incorrect alignment would only effect launch angles (L or R)...

I am not sure how that is possible.

If the ball is spinning directly backwards relative to your target line (0 degree spin axis), but skytrak is pointing say 10 degrees left of your target line, that must affect the spin axis recorded by skytrak.

Maybe spin axis is calculated and not measured?

Definitely not calculated. But we aren't comparing a single ball's axis relative to the SkyTrak unit. We are comparing the ball's spin relative to the other images of the ball.

This is what a previous post discussed: http://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum/...nment?pp=78993

SkyTrak_Seth is quoted saying "Alignment will affect side angle only, not side spin."

The comment from SkyTrak_Seth makes sense. Draw a line on the ball. In Shardak's 10* example, when 2 pictures are taken, the center/center stroked ball's line will still be inline, regardless of the starting line (side angle).

I believe this is mat related.

On well struck balls, I have noticed I typically fade from my CCE and draw on my Fiberbuilt and believe the FB more closely represents my ball flight IRL.

I stopped using the bubble on the top of my case because it was way off. I was getting frustrated and then started aligning through the software and it works much better now. setup is key.

As far as I know the ST alignment will only effect horizontal azumuth not spin/axis. What you should pay attention to is whether you have an offset setup to the screen. Best option is the ball direct in line with centre of screen. If slightly offset one can tend to cut or swing different to hit the target line resulting in more sidespin.

Yes, I'm having the same issue , I do think and hope it's to,do with me being offset

Try hitting straight perpendicular to the ST.

And if you have TGC you can make the center offset. I have to do so quite a bit and takes a bit of the guess work out of it.
