  • Has anyone's game Improved

    Hi Guys,

New to this forum and have just ordered Skytrack and TGC software. Has anyone's game improved since they started using the Sim?

It has definitely helped me. I had my best round in over 6 years about 1 month ago. My ball striking is much better. I still need to get better at aiming on a real course. It is very easy to aim correctly on the simulator.

Absolutely it has helped. I am now down to a 5.3 index. Best golf purchase I have ever made.

My dad and I are building a simulator setup in his basement. Plan on using it a lot this winter. Let ya know in the spring if it makes a difference or not. My thought is certainly can't hurt.

I see a lot of guys claiming some very impressive gains while using skytrak. I brought skytrak for the sole purpose of game improvement. My experience is a little different. I’ve had my skytrak for around 7 months and have recorded 220 hours on it. I was a 7.8 when I purchased it and am a 7.3 now. I’m a firm believer in practice makes “permanent” and without a doubt there was a period of time where having a simulator in my home actually hurt my game. I was hitting between 200-300 balls a night and having all of that feedback and data let me ticker with my swing a lot. Before I knew it I had developed issues and wasn’t sure what they were. Ultimately, it took about 3 weeks of work with my instructor to work them the out. So now, I’ve completely changed my approach to practice on my SkyTrak. I have set rules and very specific goals for each session and will not use the same club more than 10 shots in a row (unless I’m trying ingrain a specific swing “change”). Typically, I use the randomizer, set to 3 shots, with all the shots counting in score. It makes me focus on each shot, and doesn’t allow me to ticker near as much. Some of my sessions goals are...

          1. Distance control
          2. Stock shot ball flight
          3. Ball striking/consistency
          4. Wedge control (wedge matrix is great for this)

Can it help? Absolutely, but you have to structure your practice properly to get the most out of it (just like IRL). Just pounding balls won’t help you. I’m also not a huge believer in “playing” rounds on the sim, but that’s just me.

I dropped about 10-12 strokes IRL since last summer using the SkyTrak over the winter. (a lot) Certainly shortened up the long dreary winter too!

I purchased my skytrak at the end of last season. I was a 6.6 index then. However, my game was not very consistent. I would shoot some good rounds in the mid 70s but also have some 88 and 89s. My index is now down to a 5.3 and I'm playing a lot more consistently. My 'bad' rounds are 81-82.. I can attribute this to the skytrak for sure. I think one critical piece of improving is filming your swing. Watching some guys on youtube like George Gankas and Russell Heritage and working on correct hip movement has added considerable distance and consistency to my swing. SkyTrak makes swing changes much easier since I can use it whenever I want regardless of weather. It's certainly harder to make swing changes when you are only going to range once or twice a week.

My scores have gone down, but more than that my swing consistency has been going up! Also My swing has changed quite a bit since I purchased Skytrak. I always was a slicer/ fade shot shape. Now I'm hitting mostly draws with the occasional pull/hook. Outside of Skytrak my biggest improvement has been putting. I got fit for a nice Bettinardi putter and the feel and confidence I have over my old incorrectly fit center shaft TM Manta is light years better. I have shaved at least 4-5 shots off my score due to my putting.

                  100% my game has improved.
                  In under 3 years i have gone from a 15.2 index to a 6.0.
Skytrack has helped with the following - ingraining shot shape and being able to always hit a consistent shaped ball, Wedge shots from 30-115 yards and knowing my average carry distances for landing into greens.

Short game and putting however still needs work

My daughter uses the simulator more than I do. She has never played 9 holes let alone 18. She tried out for the high school golf team, not only did she make the JV team, they want her to try out for varsity. She now has played 10 rounds of real golf and is shooting in the mid to low 90's. Again, she only had a few lessons and spent lots of time in the simulator. So yeah it definitely helps. I use it more for my shot shaping, allows me to actually see what the ball does than just the ending result of it. My game has gone from a 16 index to a 12 in 4 months.

Went from a 16.5 HCP to 12.2 in about a year - played a lot of golf outside tho in that time as well.

The ST has definitely helped with ball striking / shaping and confidence with my carry distances across my bag.

Finally broke into single digits this weekend. Played 36 on saturday and went 78-77. Which has me trending towards a 9.7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For reference I was a 14.9 in April. I hit about 100-150(over 36k a year) balls every day, play in 1 TGC tournament a week, and play about 1 round of golf outside a week.

For me the ability to hit so many balls has me striking the ball so well, hitting the middle of the face on 90+% of my shots. I am a tinkerer, so I am always switching my swing up and being able to hit a ton of balls helps ingrain those swings. Trying to make swing changes without hitting 1000s of balls is a fools errand.

Also, hitting so many balls has just naturally improved my swing and my speed. I went from hitting the driver 250 a couple years ago, to now carrying 280+(max I carry I have seen on GC2 is 296).

I am under the school of thought now thanks to Adam Young that practicing intent is better than trying to a achieve certain positions in the golf swing. If you look on tour, you see so many different swings. So why practice trying to swing like Adam Scott, your body/brain doesn't work like his, so why try to replicate his swing??

Now I just focus on swinging to the left if I wanna hit a fade, a swinging to the right if I wanna hit a draw. If I am deep down in the rough, I just swing steeper and try to smash the club into the top of the ball.

This revelation in thinking (thanks to the Chasing Scratch podcast for introducing me to Adam Young), has allowed me to practice way more effectively and reduce the number of swing thoughts I have.

I highly recommend everyone check out Adam Young.

Anyways, Sorry for the rant but I am just really excited to be in the single digits. I used to be dead even with my group of friends in terms of ability, but I am now regularly beating them by 5-10 strokes a round. I have inspired at least 1 of them to invest in their own simulator because they have seen the results it has had on me.

                        ALSO!!!! 1 more thing.

I am a range rat... I JUST LOVE HITTING A SHIT TON OF BALLS. Working on different ball flights ect....

But what gets lost on the range is having pressure to hit a good shot. The only reason I play full rounds of golf is to compete with my friends. Even though I have TGC, i never play any rounds by myself UNLESS it's on the tour because it allows me to compete with other people.

So thanks to TGC tours not only have I perfected by ball flight, but I get to hit pressure shots and learn how to control distances around the greens.
