  • Has anyone's game Improved

    Hi Guys,

New to this forum and have just ordered Skytrack and TGC software. Has anyone's game improved since they started using the Sim?

  • #2
IRL, I went from about a 18 down to 9.8 in one year. I use the sim a lot though. Over 300 rounds since August /15 and probably equal practice time. I am hoping to bring it down to about 5 or6 this year. I play about 12 rounds indoors to every outdoor round. So my handicap on TGC is much lower than real life.

WoW that is a lot of Simulator golf and brilliant improvement!! Ive mine all ordered up and get it tomorrow.. One more sleep.. I have a feeling I am going to be addicted to this. I currently play of 6.4 and i am hoping i will be able to work on my game on the simulator and get that down a bit when the season starts again. Fingers crossed.

I purchased mine in may. In IRG/IRL I am now break 80 9 out of 10 times with a lot more pars and more chances an birdies then ever before - this is playing different course as well. I now have streaks of never losing a golf ball of 18 to 27 holes and streaks of no triples for 36 to 54 holes.
    .
Not sure if this is normal for others but I shoot worse on the sim then I do in real golf. Might be still getting use to hitting indoors - still with driver. I now walk outside to swing few with the driver before I start. Also, the short game of 10-25 yards I am not very good at with the SIM...better in real life.

So, do I think sim golf improves the real game...you betcha...really have I hopes for golf in 2017. 85 avg score or better is goal.

Nice, I have also noticed that I am spending less on balls. I had a couple of rounds that I had the same 2 balls in my pocket the whole round. A year ago I had at least 18 in the bag at all times.

My HCP went from 21.6 to 15.8 IRL since May. Last year it was 23-24. I installed protee in October of last year. So yes, My game has improved. Still lots of work to do.

protee is a simulator system. if you have skytrak you do not need it

It is addicting.... Here is a video that shows driver improvement over about 7 months. Replay videos show the avatar. IRL my Firs went from about 20% to 75% and Girs ..... 15% to 40%. The tour is a blast as well. We try to play the same courses as the pros if an accurate version is available. Check out the tour site here http://golfsimulatortours.com/home.php
I am thinking that you may be calling in sick soon.

They are some nice carry numbers on your last drives. What system are you using and do you have boost on. Do you mind me asking your driver swing speed and ball speed

I use a GSA CX2 system. Golftown's GC2 has my swing speed usually 112-120 without a HMT. Ball speed on a well struck driver is165-185. I have my system to match my irons IRL. A well struck 7 iron at golftown carries 175-180 but out on the course I can carry about 10-15 yards farther. My driver is set to match Golftown. Their GC2 is set at sea level. Here I play around 3500 feet. IRL my drive goes a little further. Back when I first started, I may have had the driver set to match RL distance. My clubs are not boosted past what I hit IRL. Longest drive this year IRL was 335 ( no wind, no elevated tee). IRL my carry is probably less than what you see on TGC. IRL my drives roll out a ton. TGC seems to have trouble matching that. Occasionally I will carry over 300 with a higher LA but usually my longest drives carry 250-270 and roll out over 300. I have fooled around with my spin settings to try to match what I see in RL.....but it seems that the fairways in TGC are wet.

I used to play golf twice a year with 24 hcp until 12 months ago when I built my sim. Have since played over 150 rounds on the simulator.
My Sim handicap has gone from 15 to 2.9 here and down as low as -2 currently on the other tour which shows the improvement in ball striking, distance and distance control.

When I played outdoors for the first time in 13 mths last weekend I still shot a very poor 100 so a massive discrepancy between IRL and sim, but that included a 13 where I hacked away for 8 shots in heather and 2 or 3 putting every single green as I'm a terrible, out of practice, putter. My bad shots weren't nearly as bad as they were. Bunkers were of course alien to me Greens were sooo slow, having been used to playing on stimp 10 sim courses instead of what felt like a 7 on the course!

I "believe" if I play IRL a few times then I should be shooting in the teens, which is my goal. Also, to explain the discrepancy between the IRL and sim, I am a relatively long, inaccurate hitter, which favours sim play as you can nearly always recover and don't lose balls, unlike IRL.

As a final note, for any sim golfers who don't play outdoors, having now played outside I went back to the sim and the shots felt "natural". Because I'd not played outside for so long, everything was feeling incredibly technical and each shot I was thinking about angle of attack, spin rates, swing path etc. Playing outdoors has cleared away a lot of that mental debris and I'm just swinging and enjoying it so much more. (sat out last couple of tournaments as have very bad blisters on hands from too much sim golf a few weeks back)

For me personally I really hasn't lowered my IRL handicap but it has definitely made me a better ball striker day to day, so I don't get "off" quite as much as I use to, which has resulted in fewer poor scores and a lower scoring averages.

But I can say this your IRL golf game will not improve by only sitting on your sim full time you need to put your feet to the real course as much as you can find the time to do so as your simulator will always give you that perfect lie and perfect conditions, which can destroy your day on a real course if your not prepared. both can go hand in hand to improve your game

I didn't want lessons and experimented with things based on GC2 numbers (or SkyTrak). But only when I engaged with a golf pro (video advice actually, thanks to ShankyGolf) did I correct 2 key basics that made a huge difference. Stance and grip for me. Was critical to find someone who will work to improve YOUR swing and not try to create a perfect swing.

The Golftec lesson was enlightening. Never really saw my swing in real life and was nothing like I imagined. The amount of wrist bend at the top of my backswing was comical and as well as bent elbows through the follow through. My instructor has me doing half back swing just turning my hips and keeping my arms straight and hitting the ball and keeping the arms straight in the follow though. Pretty much a punch shot that I never realized was a punch shot. Prior to the lesson my side spin was 2000-3000. Now it's down to 500-1500 with the majority of my shots being pushes that draw slightly back versus a hook. I've been swinging a little faster each day through the follow through so at the beginning was hitting an 8 iron 50-60 yrds, it is going 90-110 yrds. When I try and do a full swing it gets very ugly. Toed or heeled the ball bad and nailed the lexan protected skytrak a few times giving me a brief heart attack.

Tbh I've only just realised my grip is the cause if so many of my bad shots.. my driver grip has just got stronger and stronger and causing me to either snap hook it or slice it

Helped me immensely. After having a child I took over 2 years away from golf. I also run my own business from my home. I set my simulator up about 2 months ago and now have the ability to practice whenever I'd like, not to mention play a round of golf in about an hour. Obviously with golf season pretty much over here in the northeast having a winter practice area is going to help a bunch too.

I was already a + handicap, so while my index hasn't dropped a ton, I 100% have become a better golfer. My understanding of my swing, overall consistency and most importantly, how to fix it when it's off is dramatically better.

I am new to the sim software but have had a SkyTrak for about a year & it really has helped my game this year. Much more consistent overall. Partial shots are greatly improved, spin rates up, launch angles tighter, Driver spin WAY down, starting the ball on line quite well. With the recent addition of the Skills Assessment which I run once a week or so.... the software has grown into something pretty awesome. TGC is addictive. I have to pace myself...

Simply yes there is no doubt that it has helped my IRL game, especially putting and chipping.
