  • Skytrak Armour

Ok, I'm starting this thread to see if protecting the Skytrak box is still a must for some people.

I have read countless posts on this subject and generally feel that this is a need for users. I have owned the Skytrak for a couple of months and agree for the most part. Honestly, it doesn't seem an issue for myself, however I couldn't possibly let my kids, favorite friends, or even a touring pro use it without completely freaking out!!!

My question is this. Is this a need for users that still exists for a reasonable enough amount of people?

I am a manufacturing engineer and have all the available information and software to develop a legit protective case that can make the Skytrak bulletproof. I can integrate leveling devices, locating devices, and alignment aids into the case. Basically whatever a user wants.

I can have these produced at a reasonable cost and shipped to a user. This is what I can do.

I have a desire to this, have started on a prototype for myself, but am really looking for more interest than personal use. Time is a huge motivator for me as I'd rather be hacking away on the TGC. LOL!

If you are interested, please PM me or just reply to this thread so I can get an idea of the need.

Disclaimer: yes I have the Davray sketch and will use some of that information in whatever design I come up with. My plan would be to optimize and improve overall function of whatever case I come up with. I see location, leveling, protection, and consistency of setup being the utmost importance.

  • I had a skytrak unit that got hit in the plastic protective case, and the motherboard was damaged so I had to get a replacement so I contacted Gary and asked about his case. He sent me one and I have to say Skytrak Armour is really great. Sturdy and very protective of the skytrak investment. It appears that there is no way the ball can actually contact the machine through the case. I use this with high school players so we MUST protect and the skytrak plastic case did not do the job. Thanks Gary for helping me out with an excellent product.

      Thanks Coach! Great to hear.

  • My skytrak is running for a week now. Armor since the first day (and first hit lol).

My girlfriend shoot it few times already and, beside the first time where I was worried, now I am just laughing when she hit the armour ... no way you can damage your skytrak with this

A big thank you Gary !

Good stuff Ykaar. Enjoy your Skytrak.

  • So I hit some balls today using armour case. Hit about 30 shots. It NEVER missed a shot. Loving the case. Nice job Gary. And thanks again. This will make the skytrak more usable for less "seasoned" golfers.

          • eBay Listing - Skytrak Armour

I've got a new listing on eBay for the Skytrak Armour. I took some cost out of it so it's kind of a "Lite" model. Still offering the same great protection with a .125" thk enclosure. Check it out if you're interested!

Thanks for the update! Just to ensure, what are the differences, as in the things that took out the "cost"? Thanks!

No top, thinner base, and main thing is different manufacturer. I still stand by the quality of the design. Have had a proto for about a month and it works perfectly. The original Armour has a special place in my heart for sure, just trying to make the product competitive on the open market. Will still withstand anything a guy can give it though...

            • Hi Gary - just a curiosity - is this "Lite" model considered THE model going forward (sounds like it is), or is this simply a more affordable alternative to the "full" model - which will still be something you sell?

Either way I went ahead and pulled the trigger since I don't want to wait on protection at this point. But...knowing the differences - I will be adding a top and bubble level on my own - should be a fun little DIY. But frankly, probably worth it for a $40 price decrease - as long as "the meat and bones" are the same - same gauge/thickness of metal, same precise cut-out pattern without letting a ball damage the sensor area, etc.

Thanks for the purchase flux. All the meat and bones are the same. The enclosure is the same .125" cold rolled steel as before. Removed the top and the base is thinner. The full version will only be available as a batch order moving forward.

            • is there the full version? bubble level etc?

              • Hey guys, I can get a batch going of the original Armour but I'd need get 10 dedicated forum members. eBay fees are just too expensive to keep that version going. We can do it as before and order up thru PayPal and once I get 10 I'll place an order. The "Lite" version works on eBay.

Just printed your label, thanks for the purchase!

              • Gary, how quickly do you ship?

Your eBay page listing says **Now shipping same day as purchase** in big bold letters.

But I purchased on Monday night, and since Tuesday morning the tracking status has just said that the label is printed but USPS hasn't received the package.

I'm just itching to get it cause I've got a brand new Skytrak sitting in its box that I'm dying to try out, but I'm not going to take it out until I have some sort of protection.

EDIT: Tracking info LITERALLY updated while I was typing this message. Looks like it was shipped this morning. Thanks!
