  • Skytrak Armour

Ok, I'm starting this thread to see if protecting the Skytrak box is still a must for some people.

I have read countless posts on this subject and generally feel that this is a need for users. I have owned the Skytrak for a couple of months and agree for the most part. Honestly, it doesn't seem an issue for myself, however I couldn't possibly let my kids, favorite friends, or even a touring pro use it without completely freaking out!!!

My question is this. Is this a need for users that still exists for a reasonable enough amount of people?

I am a manufacturing engineer and have all the available information and software to develop a legit protective case that can make the Skytrak bulletproof. I can integrate leveling devices, locating devices, and alignment aids into the case. Basically whatever a user wants.

I can have these produced at a reasonable cost and shipped to a user. This is what I can do.

I have a desire to this, have started on a prototype for myself, but am really looking for more interest than personal use. Time is a huge motivator for me as I'd rather be hacking away on the TGC. LOL!

If you are interested, please PM me or just reply to this thread so I can get an idea of the need.

Disclaimer: yes I have the Davray sketch and will use some of that information in whatever design I come up with. My plan would be to optimize and improve overall function of whatever case I come up with. I see location, leveling, protection, and consistency of setup being the utmost importance.

DirtyGarry24 - I would be interested in a case that also has an alignment aid built in (laser or even just a line) so that you wouldn't have to use the skytrak alignment aid in the range to figure out where center line is. On my setup I move the skytrak back and forth between two different hitting mats and use lots of tape for pre measured alignment spots, but if there was something on the case that mirrored the alignment aid on skytrak that would be ideal. Thanks!

jjkoolman - I can definitely put a lazer alignment on the case.

I'm curious about the Skytrak alignment aid. I'm not familiar. Care to explain?

Ok, I watched a little youtube vid about the alignment mode. Now I understand why I didn't get it. I use a tv to project my shots. Therefore I'm not concerned with having skytrak aligned to my projector screen. I do see the need though. I think I have an idea on how to solve your issue of relocation.

If you start the SkyTrak app, then go to the practice range, then go to settings, there's a toggle buttom for 'alignment mode' where both lasers will activate (the left-handed player laser as well as the right-handed player laser). This gives you two points of reference to square up the unit to your hitting mat.

I would definately be interested. I was about to import the metal version from Japan. Would you be willing to ship to Europe at my cost?

rmyoung88 - I can't really say a timeline or cost at the moment. I don't have a finished design yet. Hopefully I can integrate all features wanted from this thread and get a quote rather quickly.

I would probably get about 5 units manufactured, test them out and then go from there. Once I got a quote for the 5, I could come up with a reasonable cost. At that point, you're usually looking at 4 - 8 weeks to manufacture.

LeeRob23 - I can definitely do that as long as it's physically possible. Not something that I've done before. Don't see why it'd be a problem though.

Wow guys, seeing some real interest here. I'm going to get back on the design right away.

See, I told you there would be interest. Looking forward to the design and cost. We're all looking for something to really protect it, help with alignment and height adjustment and look good.

Ya, you called it. I'm quite surprised actually. I hope to get something going soon.

wbond, does the concept that I presented meet the requirements that you listed?

I would be very interested. I'm not too worried about it for my use, but would love to let my kids use it without worrying about it.

Very similar to the way I feel. I'll keep ya posted.

                interested.

i think a guide-slot for an off the shelf laser alignment tool would be more cost effective.

I think that's the way to go Thinman.

I am interested in info, cost, timeline. I have not come close to hitting the ST.. I have the plastic protective case currently. I think a laser alignment outside of ST app would be great as well.
