Skytrak & TGC Distances LONGER than real life

Hey All,

Have seen a bunch of posts around balls being shorter, going left or right of normal, but has anyone run into balls going much longer than in real life?

I have a game golf unit so I can measure ball distance on the course, brought the skytrak unit to the range as well.

It seems like i get ~10 - 15 yards additional carry + roll out on skytrak than I do in real life. Granted I'm well below at sea level in the bay area which might affect flight. Just curious if anyone else has seen this issue?

Mine seems just about right. I also have the game golf and the distances seem pretty good to me. But like most higher handicap players I'm all over the place with the driver. I've averaged 225 according to game golf and I'm getting around the same in TGC with of course some way longer and some way to the right lol...

everything except my 3 and 4 hybrids are shorter in TGC but since using sim golf for almost 6 months now the distances are getting closer to each other. Really taking a long time to get use to hitting indoors and off the matt - fat shots kill you, but I hit a lot less fat shots out on the course now as well. Perhaps you have the boost in the ini file turned on - just a guess.

I think it may be slightly longer for driver for me. However, I actually swing faster indoors than out. Guess I'm more in tune with trying to score decent outdoors vs in. I thought wedges were longer as well until i started hitting them past the pin this year.

Maybe wind is a factor?

Only clubs that go "longer" than my IRL numbers are my specialty wedges. Sometimes my gap/pitching wedge, but mainly the 54/60 or 62 depending on which set of wedges I'm playing.

What are your spin numbers? I've found I get pretty low spin on irons hence higher carry and roll numbers then I'd expect IRL. I suspect it's the mat I use (CCE elite) it's most glaring on wedges and short irons.

I hit a few off of grass (more like dirt) in my yard and spin was much higher with more realistic yardages.

My spin numbers are super low... like 3k spin with a 7 iron. I never knew if I should chalk that up to poor ball striking or a slower than average swing.

Here's an example 7 iron:

184 total
164 carry
18 degree launch angle
2646 spin
108 ball speed

Using the netreturn pro mat thoughts?

I'm seeing the same thing with super low backspin numbers. My 7 iron carry is 150 and I'm hitting them high but I'm only getting around 3300 spin every time so everything rolls right off the green every time. And I suck at chipping so that doesn't help either lol

Yup, my numbers look pretty similar. I think plush mats like the cce in effect give you a flier lie every time. Not a big deal just something to factor in. I do trust the numbers are correct as I did a little informal test off grass and see numbers I'd expect IRL. Not sure on the rules here for links to outside sights, but do a google search for trackman mat vs grass to see more.

I have a CCE mat as well and I don't get low spins. 7k+ spins with a 7-iron for me. Ball speed should factor a bit, but 3k seems odd, provided you use a tour ball.
I noticed though that spin numbers seem out of place (as in really low) when my launch angle gets above 28°. Maybe the device lenses aren't designed for those angles. This could explain why people get too much distance with wedges.
I also noticed that me and my fellow team-mates from the mid-am local club team (all of us 0 to 4-handicap) can't get a decent ball speed with the driver (we all get better numbers with a 3-wood and no tee, actually).
