  • Skytrak off 20-30 yards with driver

I get lessons at golftec and all my drives are 270+ on their device. On the course I do average the same. On skytrak my longest drive is 260 but averaging about 230. I really want this thing to work!!! Leveled, googled the crap out of this.

Yeah spin is WAY to high. 12-14 launch is okay with me. When the spin is down 2-3k my distances seem great 260-280 but i'm not sure i believe i am getting legit 4-5k spin with a driver. Maybe but thats why i posted here for feedback.

Could i be swinging down on the ball this bad to get 4-5k spin with a hard low spin ball.

My issue was swinging in my house. I swing fine at Golftec and was averaging 275+(on my own skytrak) but something changes in my swing when I was hitting at my house. So the phenomena is real. My room is actually bigger than the one I swing in at golftec. Maybe thoughts of my wife killing me after putting one through the wall?

Ah yes the wife factor... Soon to be included next to smash factor or PTI... Whatever they want to call it!

Oh dear, this is so right. I was lying to myself as well for a long time and now I'm completely honest to myself cause I was getting better that moment when I stopped lying to myself. And yes all golfers tell fantastic stories about how far they hit the ball and then struggeling to hit it over a 140 yards pond. THEN they take an iron longer... cause "they feel better with a not so hard to hit iron" over the pond.... sure... If you say so.

Considering I am 48 years old and play golf just 2 years I am fine with that

My data from 20 shots each club is measured with skytrak and callaway CF 16 clubs with regular graphite shaft:

Driver 11.5deg, shortened to 43'' shaft: Average 214 Yards longest 240
          5 Wood: Average 182 yards longest 204
          21' Hybrid: Average 171 yards longest 183
          5 Iron: Average 162 yards longest 174
          6 Iron: Average 154 yards longest 161

My 4 and 3 Iron are hanging at the wall for the time when I am getting a better golfer who is able to control them.

I do hit the shorter irons much more precise and when I see that there are still lots of shots which are far away from my expected results there is still a lot of work to do.

          Inside hitting:

Oh yes, it took me a while to get used to it. Even I do have a lot of space and there is no risk to hit anything, I felt not that free like when I am outside. Now it is getting better, specially with the short irons but it is still not the same.

          Have fun
          Frank

Yeah, nobody was trying to give anyone a hard time. It's just the facts of hitting indoors in our homes along with a slight ego check at times with our true distances (not always the case). I was in the same boat a year ago. I refused to believe the indoor effect was real, but it very much is. Glad you guys at least have a little bit of an explanation now and that it wasn't hardware related. It does get better the more you get comfortable swinging in your sim area, I promise.

So whats eveyones therory on this..(ive come to accept it so im not really complaining, it is what it is) Ill keep it short and sweet. (carry numbers are approx to keep it short) Driver on skytrak is 20 yards shorter than IRL. Took to range to verify. Used range finder to confirm. says carry 230-240. Put them over the 250 sign at range. again verified sign with range finder. pluged exact numbers from skytrak session into flightscope trajectory optimiszer and it shows carry distances to be 20 yards further. Irons off a yard or so (so as far as im concerned iron numbers are spot on)..

The Skytrak range flight algorithm still isn't perfect in my opinion. Adjust the altitude, temperature and humidity (all higher) to match what flightscope optimizer is showing. Sounds like your raw ball data is correct, so all you're doing is tweaking the flight algorithm.

As a side note, I did a full bag fitting at Club Champion on Wednesday. My average driver ball speed on their Trackman was 153-154 mph. You can look at my recorded shots and see that my average ball speed at home on a proper strike is 150-151 mph on my Skytrak. My sim area is much more cramped than that of the large Club Champion hitting bay. Along with the Skytrak being possibly 1-2 mph lower on ball speed than Trackman, I think I too just simply can't swing as fast in my hitting area at home. My mind just subconsciously won't let me.

that is my therory as well based on what my ball is doing at outdoor range vs the carry it showes on ST. I do think the ST is picking up every thing perfect in terms of numbers, just off a little on how they are translated.

Could be, yes. Some shots seems to be pretty low on the face as well to get those kind of low launch high spin numbers. I posted my driver session a couple pages back. 2800 inside and 2200 when I take my ST to my clubs range. There is an indoor effect where you think there is or not. You could check your driver strike consistency as well by spraying some athlete's foot spray on your face.

Here is a recent iron session. I've had ST for about a year now. When I first got ST, I was 10 yards short of my normal carry distance on middle irons and about 15 on my driver. I stuck with it. Like I said, and many people have, it can take a few months go to used to hitting inside, especially if it's your house. It takes some confidence to get used to it and let the club go. 714 Titleist CB Forged 7 iron old school lofts.

Yeah It was me I have made some adjustments and my spin numbers on driver have been consistantly besides miss hits in the 2200-3300 range. My carry went from 230-240 average to 250-260 average so I am
very happy. I think i was shifting my whole body forward and hitting down on the ball bad. I was also hitting more toward the heel.

I also started teeing the ball a lot higher to force me to swing up more. After I started to hit the ball half way decent my spin numbers dropped drastically. I still have a lot of work to do but I blamed the skytrak and it was me lol.
