I get lessons at golftec and all my drives are 270+ on their device. On the course I do average the same. On skytrak my longest drive is 260 but averaging about 230. I really want this thing to work!!! Leveled, googled the crap out of this.

Skytrak off 20-30 yards with driver

It drove me to get the Game Tracker...started marking to where the ball carried and found my carry was about the same as with the SkyTrak. Did a little spreadsheet and came up with a very constant difference in total yards...in other words, the typical roll out distance. SkyTrak typically 15 yards and real life courses in San Antonio typically 30 yards. I also bought "Optimal Flight" spreadsheets which showed nearly exact same distances for carry, given the ball speed, launch angle and ball spins from SkyTrak. So, the only question in my mind is whether or not the SkyTrak accurately measures the ball speed, since my ball flight shapes do match real life.

I'm with MKurtz on this one... I've even put my ball behind the red dot a couple of inches. My driver numbers are way off as well... in real life I can easily carry it 250 to 260 but I might get it to roll to 250 once every couple of rounds in TGC and I already have the boost on at 5%.
Let's say my distances are in my head though for argument's sake... my 3 hybrid goes almost the same distance as my driver on the skytrak but nowhere near the same distance in real life. In fact, I'm often better off using my 3 hybrid in TGC than I am using my driver but those long par 5s are killers on the skytrak and are usually my saving grace in real life as well.
I'm also a lefty so I chalked it up to something being off with the algorithm for lefties... saw a post on this somewhere else as well for lefties but it's odd that this topic comes up every few months on this forum. I have a white taylor made driver so not sure if that's screwing things up still even though it's still back 2 inches. My hybrid is black so that raises an interesting possibility. MKurtz... what colour is your driver??

Can you guys please post a screen shot of your ball flight/data with a driver on the practice range? It would help a ton!
Also, the only way moving behind the dot is needed is if you are using a white headed driver or have a swing speed over 120'ish.

I will say that no one is carrying the ball 260 with 138 ball speed. It just isn't possible. More than likely, you may just be swinging differently indoors. It's "possible" that the SkyTrak hardware is faulty, but you would notice a discrepancy across all clubs if that were the case. Definitely take yours along to GolfTEC and see how it compares to their SkyTrak as well. Just know that you can't really compare SkyTrak to GC2 real-time because of interference.

I think there is a difference in the software packages as well, especially when it comes to drivers/ 3 woods. I get more accurate real-life numbers for my driver in TGC than I do in JNPG. Neither software has been able to get me consistently close to my 3 wood numbers, although I have to say this past week I got pretty darn close most of the time in JNPG hitting my Callaway mini off a small tee and off the deck. Off the deck was still about 10-20 yards short of what I'm able to hit it. I think that has to do with the mat as well.
It does still get a little frustrating, but its better than not getting to play at all :-).
We just finished up our first indoor tournament here as a benefit for our local HS girl's golf team and there were a number of people that commented on how much shorter their drivers/fairway woods were carrying. A number of them were struggling with tee height. If they tee'd it up as they would outside they were skying it. I use a smaller tee indoors than I do outdoors as well.
And there is a difference between using real tees and "other" tee styles.

I've noticed all of my distances are somewhat short. Is it possible that the shortness is some sort of percentage and more noticeable on the driver than other clubs? I wonder how long it takes to get the skytrak looked at if I send it away to get checked...

yup those numbers are correct for 138 ball speed....the reason people notice it more on the drivers is because on the course there are more variables at play. wind, hills. firmness of ground etc etc etc. embrace the numbers learn how to make them better.

It is time and time again USER error. What I mean by user error basically means you are swinging entirely different or apprehensive when inside on the SkyTrak at home vs big open spaces outsideor at a Big Box Store. It's either that or you don't hit the ball as far as you think you do - it's one or the other. OR you play at some magical place where the fairways are like airplane runways and you get massive rollouts. My initial drives were "only" in the 280 range when I first got the SkyTrak, mind you I can carry the ball close to 300 yards on a warm day outside. Even as a long hitter, I was apprehensive, mainly with driver, with really letting the club "go" when I swung inside my house. It took me about 3 months to mentally get used to it - and it happened subconsciously rather than in an instant. You are swinging differently, its not the machine...I promise you.
Make sure you tee up the ball about 1" behind the red dot on drives with the logo pointed towards the machine.
This was a driver session I had 2 nights ago...and my garage was 40 degrees on a 10 degree night in Ohio. Again, my ballspeed numbers are typically in the 170s, but in a 40 degree night, when the ball is cold and so am I, this is MORE than accurate. I have two other plus golfer buddies who have a SkyTrak as well, they have no problem with distance issues. Most people just think they hit the ball farther than what they do.
Avg Carry 275 yards - Total drive 298 - this is in 40 degree weather where the ball doesn't jump as much. SkyTrak is accurate.
And for !@#$ sake people, please focus on your CARRY distance and not your roll out distance. Roll out distance can very WILDLY from courses, to conditions, to separate parts of the country or world. Always focus on BALL SPEED or CARRY distance. You never ever see PRO's calculate their rollout distance.
