Go to http://gpuboss.com/ to compare video cards. You will be well served to go with GTX 1060 or 970 or better.
When comparing GPU's on this site.... don't just look at the overall scores. Look at FPS on the benchmarked games. The 970 doubles the FPS of the R9 280x on Battlefield 4. Gaming results are what is important. Stay away from low end Radeon cards. They are not worth it. If you already have it.... pull it out and sell it. And put in a GTX 1060 6GB...... which is the current best bang for the buck.
Check what your FPS is .....TGC looks fantastic at 60FPS and is hard to watch at 30FPS. Turn your TGC settings down until your R9 card can hit 60 FPS and then ask yourself if you are happy with the way it looks. When the ball lands, it stutters at 30 FPS something terrible.

Where in TGC does it tell fps? Also I have TGC and will the version for the simulator run the same as the one I already have? Reason I have that card is because the pc was built in 2014. It was a high end card at the time and I mostly have always played World of Warcraft and it runs at anywhere from 75 to 100 fps.

Download a program called FRAPS. for FPS. WOW is not really the same power hog that TGC is. TGC is on par with a game like Battlefield 4. Tough games separate good video cards from great ones. WOW is never really used as a benchmark so I am assuming that it is not very demanding on the GPU. What 2 series card you have?...... 290x is not really the same as a 255. 290x will play TGC and the 255 really will have a tough time. Disregard most of the benchmarks and look at gaming.... Battlefield 4 is a good benchmarking game. If you are happy with your ATI card, that's great. The vast majority of gamers are currently going with Nvidia cards. Set up your game settings so you are getting 60FPS with Vsync on...... If at 60 FPS ..... you are happy with the way it looks.... then keep your card.... if not .upgrade. Currently the GTX 1070, 1080 has no equal.

I had always had nvidia until I built this pc and by everything I looked up for the money you couldn't beat the card I got. By the way it is the 270x 4gb version. If I have to upgrade cards it's no biggie but I'll try it on this first and go from there.

I have been using the Radeon R9 200 for over a year now. I've been able to play TGC on fairly high settings without any problem. I only used it for the PC game, not sim, but as mentioned above it should be the same. Fairly certain I don't have the TGC settings fully maxed out but they are still high and it plays and looks great. When I get back home, I can look at the exact settings I've used. Long story short, my experience with that card on TGC has been good.
