  • TGC resale value

I am really itching to buy a simulation software as the driving range is becoming too monotonous. Naturally TGC is the first one I am exploring. I am interested in buying the game outright (for $1k). I talked to SkyTrak chat and they told me that I will not be able to transfer my TGC license to another SkyTrak user if I sell my unit. Can someone confirm this ?

I don't want to be out $1k if I decide to sell my SkyTrak and not purchase another launch monitor down the road.

That is correct you can't transfer between skytraks but you can transfer between different systems

How about selling my SkyTrak's TGC license to someone else with a GC2 or something? Will that work or does it have to be me.

From what I have been told, your TGC license can transfer to another platform (example GC2) just not to another skytrak.

It has to be you , and I can see why .

How about if someone is selling a skytrak w/ TCG license. Is the license transferable to another party if they have the same skytrak unit?

You can ask chat but I am quite sure that's a no. The person on chat told me that TGC is non-refundable as per the terms on Skytrak website.

I bought TGC outright for almost 1000 dollars, because of the lifetime license. But if my skytrak breaks tomorrow and I need to buy a new one (GC2 and others are out of my price range) it means i have to buy a new tgc license? That smells like false advertisement concerning the "lifetime license"

I think if you switch to gc2 , you will be okay. But you can't sell TGC license to anyone else. That's the impression I get.

Not sure, but don't think it works that way. My impression was tgc was just tied to your skygolf account and if you bought a new skytrak for yourself then that skytrak would also be connected to your skygolf account and would be fine to use with your previously purchased tgc. But again, not totally sure here, just doubt they would make you but tgc all over again

It's still registered in your name so you'll be fine, I'm on my second skytrak and tgc works fine

The license is for your own use, if your Skytrak breaks then u can use it on your new skytrak, if you get a gc2, then u can transfer it. You can't sell it on . Think about it, you buy a license for 1000 dollars, get a years use out of it and sell it for 900 dollars. You've paid 100 dollars for a years use, where ProTee charge 450 dollars for a yearly use. This is the argument I've been having on Jnpg vs TGC. If you get bored of TGC or something else comes out better, which they are, you are stuck with a white elephant 🐘. You have to decide to pay a yearly sub, after which you can go somewhere else if not satisfied. I enjoy TGC, but I really don't think I'll be playing it in a years time as I think better alternatives be available. TGC reckon they won't charge extra for upgrades, but I'm not holding my breath on that on. Hope I'm wrong.

It does state clearly on SkyTrak's web site that the purchase (or even rental) of TCG includes any updates.

Updates are free of the existing game. When tgc2 comes out if will be treated as a new game, but yeah, it sounds like that will be available at no extra cost. Which is good news. People who have consoles will hVe to buy a new game.

Skytrak originally said that they won't charge a annual fee, look what happened there!

I have a GC2, I can sell my license to anyone (except Skytrak, as they're married to buy it from Skygolf). So it depends on your hardware you used under your original purchase.

TGC is purchased from Protee-United and not SkyTrak. Therefore, the Pro-Tee EULA should govern what you (as the owner) may do with your licensed and purchased copy of TGC. The following is extracted from the EULA....No where on the SkyTrak site is there any reference related to the last line of the EULA.....

                TRANSFER:
You may not, rent, lease, sublicense, lend, use for demonstration or authorize all or any portion of the Software to be copied onto another users computer except as may be expressly permitted herein. You may, however, transfer all your rights to Use the Software to another person or legal entity provided that: (a) you also transfer each this Agreement, the Software and all other software or hardware bundled or pre-installed with the Software, including all copies, Updates and prior versions, and all copies of font software converted into other formats, to such person or entity; (b) you retain no copies, including backups and copies stored on a computer; and (c) the receiving party accepts the terms and conditions of this Agreement and any other terms and conditions upon which you legally purchased a license to the Software. Notwithstanding the foregoing, you may not transfer education, pre-release, or not for resale copies of the Software

                  • SkyTrak is testing the store front today. This should be the final step (Huray!). TGC will be released when thats working.
As you know they will offer a TGC outright purchase and a TGC annual subscription.

Here is something to seriously consider when buying a subscription:
o A subscription is the same as renting. You do not own anything.
o When you stop paying your rent, your game will no longer work.
o A subscription is non transferable.
o When you are not using the software you are still paying.
o You can not sell your subscription to someone else.
One of the BIG advantages of an out right purchase is that if you decide to sell TGC (with or without your hardware) you know its transferable. Software does not get scratched or get damaged, so you will be able to sell it later for a good price (TIP!).

We posted some detailed info about subscriptions vs outright purchase here:

Correct. TGC is transferable. You can sell it. Taking your $99 forum cash back into account, when you sell it after 1 year for $900, you basically played 1 year for free ;-)
