  • Trackman putting

I'm interested to hear feedback on TM4 putting capabilities.

Has anyone used it along side of a SAM puttlab? How well does the putting analysis work?

I'd assume (but would like more feedback) that this is much more accurate than the GC2 would be in TGC, or am I wrong?

If you're just talking about putting capability using TM software, then it has always been flawless, because it tracks the ball all the way using the radar as well as the camera.
I personally haven't compared with SAM Puttlab but I know SAM Puttlab is the industry standard so until I see the comparison I would say SAM Puttlab would be better.
TM just released the first phase of a club data for putting too, and it's evolving which is great.

Now in the simulator game, because it was new, TM4 went through some trial and error. I don't think it has to do with TM4 hardware itself, but more with the simulator integration between TM4 and the game. With the latest update, it works pretty good now but I did have some occasional hiccups like non-read as well as auto-triggering (auto-triggering was the worst).

In terms of the accuracy, it has nothing to do whether it is GC2, TM4, or whatever. Because all the game needs is Ball Speed and Launch Direction data, and the game takes over with it's lie, stimp, distance and things like that. And TM4 and GC2 outputs those 2 data similarly. So this is irrelevant to playing the game, as long as the launch monitor sends the data to the game.

Good info. I wasn't sure how the sim portion would behave if it was actually tracking the ball and then all of a sudden stopped or went offline due to hitting mat/floor seams. If it is just grabbing initial ball speed, launch and direction, then passing to the sim, all seems like it would work well.

Just trying to figure out if I want to go TM4, X3 or GC2. I have an X2 now and in the planning stages for a room. I love the club data so I really don't know that I'd want to step away from that with a GC2, even with HMT.

I would say if you have the money, just go with TM4. You get what you pay for in this launch monitor scheme. I never tested Flightscope so I can't say about it but I'm sure it'll be good too. GC2 is awesome if you have less space and it's the cheapest out of all. Plus it picks up short chip/putt all the time. It does seem to have more margin of error than TM4 in other shots in my testing though.

For the club data, all are good. One note is that X3 you need to wait until they support simulator software.
