  • New TrackMan Sim Build

Hello everyone! I’m building a TrackMan studio in a newly built “3rd car garage”. I just moved from California and NJ and I would appreciate any thoughts or ideas on what to to do for a putting green within the sim. What are some ways to add a putting green? I want to keep it an option to park a car in there just in case. I looked into ProPutt Systems and they are great, but it defeats my purpose of possibly pulling a car in the new garage. Any other thoughts? Also, cameras, screens (I already bought the projector), or anything else that I might need.

Thank you so much for all your guidance and help!

    Jason

LI searched around for a uniform hitting and putting solution but the best I found was this 10x16 combo mat from fiberbuilt. They can make custom sizes, so in theory you could do something 7 feet wide and drive over it by straddling? Just spit balling here, not sure I love the sound of that!

I also purchased a couple of Microsoft LifeCam Studios because they were only $100 each, and supported by Trackman. The frame rate is a little low, but I find them adequate for my needs and for how often I use video. Thinking about trying the Logitech brio because it should get up to 90fps. Make sure you have some good lighting for the impact position stuff.

I purchased 2 iPhone SE phones and they sit on tripods in my space without a cellphone plan, wifi only to provide 240 fps face-on and down-the-line views. They integrate seamlessly into the Trackman software. Calibration allows Trackman to identify "view" (either down the line or face on) and they magically grab a clip of each swing without any interaction with the software. I think they are great.

This truly is a great feature of TPS. You can connect up to six cameras plus the internal one for behind views.

Using an iPhone from behind on a tripod for my down-the-line view allows me to get the camera up to "hands at address" level and a little more directly behind my hands. It also allows the built in internal Trackman camera to be dedicated to clubhead "impact location" detection by the TPS software.

Awesome! Thank you! Do you know if the iPod Touch works, as well?

I noticed the screen name of the original poster and I do believe we have a former PGA professional looking to create a Trackman Studio. Jason, welcome to the forum.

Thank you for your help, everyone. Yes... Since "retiring" from golf and now working for the USGA (also realizing that it's cold and snows in NJ), I wanted to put my TrackMan to good use. I have some time to put all of the pieces together as I had back surgery last Tuesday. In 10 weeks, I will be utilizing the sim for my rehab. The problem is, I don't know what I want to put in, and if we begin wiring before the sheetrock goes up and I don't know what lies ahead in the future, well then, it'll be too late. I'm intrigued by the iPhone idea. Does it work automatically, or do you have to start the recording each time you want to video a swing? Again, thank you everyone for your help!

It works automatically. TM have put together a video. Showing how to set it up from a few years ago. It was an outdoor video and I think they were using a 3e.

The iPhone SE captures video at 240fps with a more "modern" camera than the iPod touch, but it should work with any iOS device that runs the Trackman Camera app. Like Dax said, it works automatically with every swing, capturing a set time before and after impact which you can specify within the settings. You can set it to automatically replay after each swing. It's pretty seamless.

Thank you so much! It was long overdue! Okay, one more question, please. Lighting? What kind of lighting did everyone use? I was thinking about doing dimmable LED lights. I was thinking about using two lights when using the simulator screen and using 4-6 more for lighting up the whole room, and using two LED ballast lights while using video. Thoughts?

I can't tell you how much I appreciate all of your help!

            Thank you!

These were not available when I did my lighting, but if they were I would have gone down the route of just purchasing the lights directly from TM. See the TM store for what they have. I would go for the track light one I believe it was.
          Working...
