  • TM4 new indoor requirements

Just watched a great video from TM at the Virtual PGA show and I believe the most important factor coming out of the video was the new indoor requirements that TM4 will be requiring that is really pretty amazing.

Essentially TM is saying that one will only require approx 15.5 feet wall to wall in order to get good TM measurements. These measurements include the gap to the front of the radar as well as the gap needed for the screen to wall.

I found this to be pretty amazing and the two big factors influencing this seem to be TM4 only needing to see one revolution of the ball and also that you now only need approx 6 feet from the front of the unit to the ball (this used to be 7). These two factors are pretty amazing and the sample that they gave in the slide was from a player with a 170 plus mph ball speed with driver.

TM also noted more exciting things to come that they could not disclose (I suspect one of them will be the new golf ball that they are developing).

I think these changes really open TM up to a lot more users where space was formerly a big issue and is one negative that I have heard about TM for over 7 years now. I acknowledge that pricing is still a consideration with the indoor unit costing $19,995.

Now will this new requirement of 15 ft require a new firmware ? Or the current firmware

It will require a new firmware update that is set to come out in February.

Also, I just noticed that the current indoor set up manual for TM currently shows 7 feet as the preferred distance from radar to ball for indoor. Wish I saw that before I went and changed my room a bit as I needed to change my lighting around a little to move things back from 8 feet. I guess impact being closer to the unit allows for the camera to get a better look at the golf ball.

Right .... I’m using 7’9 I Really hope they introduce full putting in virtual golf or at least reduce gimmies to 2ft ... also do you have any idea on the trackman flex cage cost?

No idea on the cost for just the flex cage, but note that someone is selling one on the TM User Group on Facebook. Not sure if it sold yet. They did not post the asking price.

for putting, Jay had a demo unit this past week and he managed to get good results on some very short putts (3 feet I believe).

The new ball tech should be very cool - actual premium balls with radar-reflecting material embedded under the cover, will require no special orientation.

TM has a team of 80 in Denmark working solely on software. Expect great things to develop quickly.

Have a new indoor/outdoor TM4 on the way with five more indoor units for our new commercial facility.

Sounds great Ron and welcome to TM. Lots of great things coming and thanks for the update on the ball. What will the measurements be at your new facility? Wish you all the best with your venture!

Thanks Dax. We're doing 16x9' screens, 11-12' ball to screen, 7-8' ball to TM4, BenQ LK953ST projectors. 5K sq ft, will have 12x20 PuttView and it will be a full sports bar and grill.
