Context:
- I hit in to a net in my garage on a temporary setup that is taken down after each session (well net stays up but mat and Skytrak get put away)
- I may also build something in my backyard on a temporary basis as I am capped at 5 iron in my garage (backyard has weather issues as it wouldn't be covered)
- I have no opportunity to build a permanent setup unless I buy a new house which is unlikely to happen (I've looked at every potential angle here)
- Currently my desktop PC sits in my living room and I use an iPad to screen mirror the PC in my garage (or backyard if I build that setup)
- I run TGC on a PC I built in 2012 with a GTX 550Ti, it's functional but does stutter at times
- I don't see any circumstance where I am ever projecting on to a screen where the image is something like 8'x12' but it's quite likely I could put something like a 40" TV in the garage or on wheels to bring outside for days I go outside
Specification Questions:
1. TGC 2019 lists the recommended specs as i5, 8gb ram, GTX 660 2gb which is way below even the most paltry PC discussed on this site (and not that much better than my 2012 PC). Is there something about the Sim interface that requires much higher specifications?
2. If the biggest I would likely "project" the image is on a 40" tv (1080p) can I get away with lower system specifications as pixilation less likely to occur at that size?
Laptop vs Desktop:
3. I have limited need for a laptop to take outside of my house but given the sim will be temporarily in garage and backyard (plus I will use the PC for other purposes in the living room where the current one is used for streaming sites to my TV) is it better to buy a laptop or stick with a desktop but continue to rely on screen mirroring?
4. If screen mirroring, what is the best approach? Right now I just use the iPad which is fine but has a very small screen. If I had a TV in the garage I could mirror again from the iPad to the TV (I have an extra AppleTV) or I could look in to the Steam Streamer or something else (running HDMI is not practical).
I'm leaning towards getting a laptop with an i5 or i7, 16gb ram and a GTX 1060 so this aligns with what people here suggest but it's more than I would like to spend (I have an iMac which is the families main computer so this is a secondary machine in many respects). I think the laptop will ultimately be easier to take to the garage/backyard and use even without a TV (laptop screen a lot bigger than iPad screen) and ultimately can plug directly in to a TV instead of having to deal with more streaming/mirroring. The only thing holding me back is I could probably pay half the amount for the same specs of a desktop and I doubt I'll get much value from taking this laptop out of the house (I have a work laptop that I can use for light computing when travelling etc which I have to take anyway).
Thanks
