  • Computer in Garage?

    Hello All,

Just wondering for those of you who play in your garages if you leave your desktop PC out there for your sim? Currently I have a gaming PC that sits just inside the door into my house and everytime I play I have to connect the HDMI cable, run the bluetooth wire (GC2 setup), etc.

Wondering if anyone leaves there desktop in the garage and has run into issues with temperature (I am in NY so hot summers and cold winters), dust, or anything else that could cause the computer to fail.

    Thanks

I have a garage setup but using a gaming laptop, that I do bring in after each use.

I live in the mid-atlantic, and it can get quite hot and humid in July/August... I have two small windows in my garage that I've covered the top portion with blackout curtains and in the bottom portion of each, I have a window A/C unit. That helps keep the garage cool while I'm playing, but that's the only time I use the A/C units.

In my opinion, from a tech standpoint, the only thing that "should" be an issue regarding your PC is moisture. Really intense heat probably isn't a great thing but if your garage is anything like mine, regardless of how hot it is outside, it's still mostly shade in the garage, so really high heat probably isn't an issue. The moisture issue, to me, would be the only real concern. I'd also keep an eye on your PC's vents - garages can be dusty and if you open/close it often, pollen and other things will make their way in and after a while, could build up on internally to the PC.

    Hope that helps.

I have a garage setup and leave the computer and monitor out all year around, I live in Canada and so the garage will often get up to 10 degrees below freezing (Celsius) in the winter and I’ve had no issues. Not ideal to go below freezing for moving parts like the fan and HD (if disk), but it there isn’t much humidity it should be fine.

Has anybody converted their PC to wireless with wifi adapter or TP-Link PCl-e?
              If so any issues
My sim is considerable distance from main house (router) and I want to upgrade from laptop to PC
