Graphics Card Question

Hey All,
I recently inherited a used desktop computer that seems to meet all the specs to play TGC19 on my skytrak. One exception seems to be the graphics card, this ASUS desktop has a AMD Radeon 6700. Do you think this will suffice, or should I have a GTX 1060 put in it (assuming I can do so) since that is recommended by the Protee website.

So before you go any further with this, can you answer a few questions for me? I'd be happy to advise you on this.
1. What are the other specs of the desktop? What is the PSU wattage? What kind of CPU and brand and model. How much ram do you have GB and what is the general age of this computer?

2. Do you have a budget if you need to upgrade more than just the GPU?

Hey Skeet, the computer is an ASUS but I dont know how to find the model number. Its roughly 5-7 years old. The RAM is 16.0 GB, The wattage is 600W. Below in this thread or pics of all kinds of specs and even the inside of the computer.

To answer your 2nd question, I could upgrade more if needed. Im just trying to see if I can save money by using this computer without sacrificing too much of the game play. My main use is playing TGC19 with friends. Having nice graphics is cool, but I am more concerned with the lag, or delays

I think you have a 6700 CPU (Onboard CPU graphics) because the 6700 graphics card are not on shelves yet. If that's the case you will need a dedicated graphics card. You may even struggle with that CPU as it's from Q3 2013. You would really be stretching it if it works at all ie lag and low framerate for the game.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. Here are some of the specs you were asking about. I dont know for sure the model number. Its a ASUS computer I got from a family member who didnt want it anymore but its in good working order.

I don't see the specs for the power supply. We would need that info to give a good answer for any GPU upgrade.
Look on the outside and inside and see if there is a label that gives the wattage of the power supply.
I assume the computer has an open slot for the GPU card?

The computer and CPU is old, I would say about 5 years, still I think it will work with a GTX 1060 or RX 570/580 for TGC if the power supply has enough power.

So I never seen the inside of a computer before so that was cool, lol. A lot more organized than I expected! So I zoomed in on the power supply so you guys could see exactly what it is. I am not sure what you mean by open slot for the graphics card. I actually couldn't find any graphics card attached to anything.

Well, that power supply should be enough/plenty for a GTX 1060 or RX 570/580. You could even go with a GTX 2060/70 or RTX 5600 if you wanted, although that CPU will like bottleneck those GPUs in many situations.

It looks like the card inserted into the first PCI E slot is a graphics card. If so, take that one out and insert the new one into that slot and install the drivers. If not, I would say put that old card into the second slot and put the new graphics card into the first slot.

So you think if I got my hands on a Geforce GTX 1060, I could just plug it into my computer to play TGC2019 on it? I found a used one that someone local is selling tonight for $150.

Also curious, when you suggest getting a better graphics card, what improvements would I see in game play? Would it just be in the way it looks? Or would it be in terms of lag, delays after contact, etc.

I would like to have good graphics, but I am more interested in faster game play.

The FX 4100 is not a great CPU for gaming. Having said that, I would say yes you will be able to play TGC 2019 at 1080P if you put in a GTX 1060 into that machine. It's close though, so you may have to cut the eye candy a bit.

So I haven't been able to get a hold of the guy selling that used Geforce GTX 1060. So the search for a graphics card to put into this desktop continues. I saw a card listed as MSI GTX 1070 8gb. From what I can tell about these cards, this is slightly better than the 1060? The real question is about the way skytrak and protee list the specs needed, they specifically say NVIDIA 1060 or better, but does who makes the card really matter when to comes to playing the sim?


I also talked to a guy who wants to sell me a desktop that he thinks would work, but I am not so sure. The specs are Ryzen 3 3200G, 8GB ddr4, 120 or 240GB m.2 ssd, on board Vega graphics. I mentioned to him that is says the minimum graphics card is 1060 but he thinks this is damn close and would likely work. His quote was "so the Vega graphics is up to speed with like a 1050Ti which is just under the 1060".

I would keep looking. It would run it as it meets the minimum requirements but not recommended specs.

I was referring to the Ryzen 3 and Vega one specifically, just for clarity. It may run it but any upgrade to the software (Say TGC2021) would certainly make the machine irrelevant.
