Need more computer help please

I just now finished assembling my pc. I planned on using the tv as the monitor and have it hooked up to the hdmi port on the motherboard and no signal. I moved it to the hdmi on the video card and same thing. I don’t have the OS yet, do I need to have the bootable usb for anything to display? Or could have I hooked up something wrong. All the fans inside the case are running fine.

I am pretty sure that without an os and the drivers needed for a video card all you can use is a monitor. The videos card will default to that.

You wont see anything off the video card but from the mother board hdmi if you hit F2 as you power on the PC, just keep hitting it you should at least see the BIOS? you wont see anything after it posts. so if you powered it on then plugged in the monitor you wont see anything.

So power it all down and with the HDMI connected to the mother board power on and tyou should see the manufacturers logo and as I said if you hit F2 (most likely but check you documentation) you can access the BIOS.

I think you will need to select PC input on you TV to get something to display. With the TV on, hit the on button on the computer and then hit DEL on the keyboard until the bios comes up. Well, I think that is what you are asking help to do.

Thanks for the replies. I have still not solved the problem though. I have tried the delete when i turn it on hooked to the tv, and then i got a monitor to try that. I have hooked it up to both the video card plug and the motherboard plug. im not getting any sort of output to get to the BIOS

if you have a motherboard speaker, hook that up and you should hear some beeps. that will tell you why it is not posting. motherboard speaker is not a pc speaker. just Google it and you will see what I am referring.

i had it hooked up. I was getting 3 beeps, which i looked up was a ram problem. I moved my RAM to another slot and it no longer beeps at all (so i guess RAM is ok now, Yay small victories)

what cpu and motherboard are you using? some motherboards come with older versions of the bios and pending on certain cpus, it will require a bios update.

cpu is a ryzen 5
motherboard is an b450 a pro max

i did the pcpartpicker and everything said it was compatible

hot damn! I got it. Once i solved the RAM issue, i changed the input and now im getting display! Thanks for the help all!

Now to load the OS... Wish me luck...

I got everything running. Installing the OS was easy(ish). Now a new problem...

I downloaded the new driver for my video card. When I go to install, it will go to a black screen. I turned off the computer and tried again, it uninstalled the initial try and on the reinstall, it did the same thing. Any suggestions for fixing this?

Update (if anyone cares to know) - the drivers for the video card would never load so I took the computer in and it turns out it was a hardware problem and I had bought a bad gpu off eBay. Now on top of finding a new card, I have to deal with returning this one...

anyone recommend a good gpu around 200 that’s available?

right now gpu prices are all high, supply and demand issue. lowest I would go is 1060 3gb, used market is around $175 to 200. 1060 6gb is around $250 to 300. newer cards like 1660 super, 2060, 3060, all are over 400 to 700 range. example, last year I got a used 1070 off ebay for $170, just sold it on ebay for $450. I just got a laptop with 2060 for $800. there are few deals around like the dell deal that just expired, i5 with 1660 super for $600.

Second this! The PC hardware market is insane right now. Really thinking about tearing my 1080ti and 2080ti out and making some profit.
