  • Anyone have luck with Powerline Adapters?

I am looking to get ethernet to a 60' x 40' metal shop. (for GSPro with GCQuad)

The in-home wifi won't reach, but the shop electrical shares the main panel from the home, hence me considering a powerline setup. Just curious if anyone has gone this route. I saw a few mentions when searching this site that were from '21 and back in '20 but nothing more recent. Thanks for any input.

I've been using a router connected to a powerline adapter for a few years in an outbuilding. It's dependable and works in cold weather. I don't know about the access point, check the operating temperature range if that might be an issue. I've never checked the throughput on it so I don't know about the throughput speeds, but the connectivity is good.

I used them for an attached garage and they worked fairly well. I think mine were only rated for 100 mbs and I was seeing ~50 mbs so depending on how far away your building is, you may see a significant lose. I ended up switching to an Orbi mesh system which has a pretty good range with the satellites and see almost 0 lose now.

I have a set feeding my detached pole barn with steel siding. Using the TPlink ones. I see about 30mbit at the shop on my 100mbit connection in the house. Not super, but more then enough to stream football, download a course and play. I did have to play with different outlets to find the best one for speed. There was also some DNS problems that were fixed with a setting change that stopped my whole house's internet from working on a power failure. That's the fun of home networking.

I use an older version of that Netgear extender and it works like a charm. I use one in my garage for my Traeger and on one my porch for streaming. Plenty of signal strength.
