Have both FSX and TGC and looking for some answers

Currently, I have an i5 processor and an EVGA Nvidia Geforce 960 ti video card. Generally, they run smoothly, but at times there is some stuttering with frames per second. My question is whether it is better to upgrade to an i7, which might be difficult for a 2013 computer, or upgrade to a Nvidia Geforce 970, which has 4GB of dedicated Ram compared to the 960? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

When I had the FSX trial demo it ran just fine with my i5 4440 processor and a Nvidia Geforce 960 2gb memory graphic processor. I didn't think it was of any value to me over FR1 so when the trial period was over I let it expire.

The thing to remember with the CPU is not all i5's and i7's run at the same processor speed. In my case the cpu runs at 3.3ghz in turbo mode. The turbo mode has to do with how hot the processor is running. If you are using only one core, and are not in a really hot environment, then it runs at max all the time which is the case in this instance..

Thanks............I think I have an i5 running at 3.2 ghz. My FSX runs mostly fine, but they have had a few updates that make me have to run it in performance mode. They introduced 3D grass and weather, which I would like to run at a high frame rate. The texture in the grass goes away when you run it in this mode.

I have the i7 + 970. No shakes or stutters even when I run GASP on top of it with its dual cams and Boditrak.

I added the new 1070 with 8 GB and I can tell you it is amazing. Of course, I came from a 750 so, I leapfrogged several generations. I have a 4.0 ghz AMD which is about 2 years old with 16 Ram. I can run max on everything plus record my playing with webcam/audio and get no lag........

I'm not an expert, but to answer your question, I believe making an upgrade to the graphics board will have more effect that upgrading cpu.....just my thoughts.

Thank you gene438! That seems to be the consensus feedback I am receiving. Not quite getting the 1070, which is a beast and good for you! Just looking to jump to the 970 with 4GB dedicated, which is what Foresight recommends for performance.
I'm not running tons of different apps, just one, so I think the CPU should be fine. Congrats on an awesome card!
