  • Computer Build for TGC

I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on this build I put together on CyberPowerPC. It seems like this will work well based on what I've read here but it's so technical I want to make sure I'm not missing anything. Thanks in advance!

I would increase the PSU to at least 600w

minimum 750 power with a 10 series graphics card, I would also go to a samsung 850 pro or evo ssd instead of the single drive the heat sink fan is no good also can not find case anywhere what kind of fans you using 120mm for airflow and how many. it sounds like a couple upgrades to help with heat but it will run what you need

      1) Surely 750 watt p/s is vast overkill. The 1060 power requirements are rather modest. It draws significantly less power than the 980 or even 970 and people use 600 watt for those. Geoforce recommend a 400 watt p/s and that is assuming a i7 processor.

      2) Also are you talking about this fan?:

If so why is it no good? It's what I'm using and is working fine.

      3) A solid state drive is nice but not necessary if budget is an issue. In any case imo better to add one than replace the hd drive.

But actually my main comment is on the video card. Has anyone confirmed it will run tgc at 60 fps with recommended settings? I actually prefer slightly more than recommended seeing since objects pop up on the recommended settings. A 1070 might be needed for flawless performance but I don't know.

Thanks to you both for your comments. I also did read that 400 watts is sufficient for the 1060 but since I read elsewhere that 600 watts might be the magic number (and the cost difference is minimal) I think going the 600 route is better to be safe. On the video card, that's a good question. I'm going to search this forum to see what I find but in the meantime I can say that when I spoke to the CyberPower technician he said that the quality of the video card is better the higher the number - maybe that's obvious but I had been wondering if the 9 series simply got replaced by the 10 series such that the 1060 is inferior to the 970, but he explained that is not the case and that anything in the 10 series will be superior to any of the 9 series. If he is right then I assume that answers that question? Or could it be that the 1060 is "too good" to work well with TGC?

The 1060 is comparable with the GTX970. This will work great. You can compare cards here: http://www.hwcompare.com/31195/gefor...force-gtx-970/

Garry: Your i5/1060 system probably draws around 200 watts even when running TGC flat out. Nvidia's recommendation of 400 watts already has plenty of margin. For heat and reliability it's better to buy a highly efficient, top gold quality 400-500 watt p/s than an average quality 600 watt p/s. Anyway, no worries there's nothing wrong with a 600 watt p/s except wasting money. I only commented because a 750 was getting a little carried away.

If the 1060 is inferior to the 970 in TGC it would only be by a smidgen. I probably shouldn't have muddied the waters. Benchmarks and theoretical calculations show it is close but until one actually measures the frame rates in TGC they never really know. That was my point which was poorly expressed.

Anyway there is no such thing as "too good" for TGC. Higher is always better, although once you are above a 970 class it's pretty hard for mere mortals to actually see improvements.

Protee: On paper the 1060 looks good. It would be interesting to know the actual frame rates the 1060 can achieve in TGC versus the 970. Have you seen any tests? Or planning to do some soon?

It is overkill but will causes less heat and is easier on computer And i agree on that the 10 series requires less power unless you overclock but the question I guess is computer just for TGC, simulator or are you wanting it for more if you want to go 4k on tgc at a good FPS then 1080 will be necessary. The computer i just built I took into account for everything and wanted to have power for anything and everything with out worrying about heat but this was mainly built for the simulator and wanted to make sure that I could carry the load. Here is my latest build but I run a monitor, a touch screen and my projector all at the same time off my 1080 graphics card.
