Laptop build for Skytrak + TGC

Hi guys - I have an outdoor set up, so desktop is not a solution for me. Also don't expect to be using a projector anytime - just a simple net is fine by need. Looking for a relatively inexpensive laptop to play TGC and keep me practicing through the winter up north in Canada.

Here is the laptop I was leaning towards: Dell Inspiron 15 7000

6th Generation Intel i7 Processor
8GB Single channel DDR3L 1600MHz (8GBx1)
256GB SSD + 1TB 5400 rpm HDD
NVIDIA GTX 960M 4GB GDDR5
15.6-inch UHD (3840 x 2160) Truelife LED - Backlit Touch Display

I don't need the system to be perfect… but then again I don't want this to be a total fail.

Any experienced laptop users out there that can comment? Appreciate all of the feedback and look forward to seeing everyone on the tour.

If there is a better laptop setup as well - I am all ears. Personally would prefer a Macbook Pro - but don't know if the video card will suffice.

Personally I would go for a beefier video card.

I have that video card in my gaming laptop which is Asus gamers republic but has an i5 processor and it's runs on high detail as long as it's plugged in to mains. If it's not then frame rates drops in half

I have a Lenovo Y50 with an i7 and 860m graphics card. It runs everything on high detail with trees tuned down a little. Same thing above as Fieldygolf, if laptop is not plugged in, frame rates take a huge hit.

Pick up one with a 10 series card and you will be close to desktop performance.

Fieldygolf or Timdm3, sorry for my lack of knowledge about these laptop graphics cards, but why do frame rates drop in half if laptop is not plugged in? Is it to conserve battery usage? If so, is there way to turn it back up even if not plugged in to get better frame rates while sacrificing battery life? Thanks.

High performance graphics require a high performance energy profile. Change your laptop energy profile when on battery to high performance, or just plugin the power supply.

At this point the GTX1060 based laptops are becoming somewhat affordable and are available through several different manufacturers. I wouldn't hesitate to go that route if you had the extra $.

Thanks for all the feedback. Placed the order for the laptop. Unfortunately, these things take 2 - 3 weeks to build.

Pretty sure the system I have will be fine after all the additional research.
