  • Ceiling protection that is aesthetically pleasing?

I'll am setting up my sim bay in my living room for now. I will likely be moving in the next few years but want to set something up in the meantime and my living room just happens to be the right size. But because it is in my living room, aesthetics are more important. Garage is not an option. Anyone else here using something like this (see pics) for ceiling protection or have any advice in this regard?

    Thanks

Mine is like the second covered in carpet tiles. Looks great, works great. I didn't bother with the baffles. Not necessary.

I am getting ready to put mine together here in a few weeks after I insulate the garage. I was aiming to put up about 5 baffles 18" down from the net close to the screen to keep high shots from coming back at me. I will have a 10 x 10 net above them by the way. Why do you say the baffles are not necessary?

I installed some baffles to make the sim look nice and I did not want to (could not) glue something to the ceiling. The curtain cloth was too light to offer enough protection so I designed it with foam pads on top of the baffles. Only those baffles within 1.5~2ft of the screen ever got hits (I am 10ft from screen) and the protection part is satisfactory. But, the baffles are seldom hanging pretty after being hit and the seams (of the cloth tube where the cable goes through) breaks around the hit spot. No biggy, the sim is in my basement, and I sewed them back up myself, and this last time with some tough threads, so far so good. All in all, the not hanging pretty part could be a problem for the living room. If the cloth is heavier or the baffles deeper, it may be less of a problem, the headroom was limited by the ceiling mounted projector in my case. Good luck. (Another word of caution: Your clubs, new and old, your 5 drivers, etc., will all find reasons to permanently settle in your sim bay.)

The ceiling is carpet on plywood. If a ball is hit with a high angle, which is rare, the ball bounces off of the carpet into the screen thus not necessary IMO.

I was worried more about a ball hitting the very top of the screen and coming back off of that.

Doest bounce back. It just drops.

I like my baffle system. It does take the velocity off the ball as well as looking "finished".

Look at posts 7, 8 and 9 in my posting about my ProTee build out.

            http://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum/...rotee-sim-room

I tapered my baffles so that they wouldn't block any of the image from the projector, therefore the baffles closest to the screen are wider, while those closest to the projector are narrower.

The baffles also cover the top angle iron that supports the screen so there is no risk of bounceback from it.
