  • Minimizing space between screen and wall

I'm close to building out my golf simulator in the basement of my new home construction. One thing I'm wondering about what is the absolute bare minimum space required between screen and wall, and what steps can be taken to take this down to a minimum. The space is framed out and I have a stud about 8-10 inches from the wall and another 24-26 inches from the wall. The first one seems too close and the second is too far away for my liking.

Is there anything I can to make it work with the first stud, or do I need to have them add a stud in between? In either case, I'd like to have the screen as close to the wall as possible to maximize hitting space.

I think you could get away with the 8-10" stud. Try to make it more towards 10"
I have about 14" with a mattress topper behind the screen (hangs from the top bar) and wish i would have made the space behind the screen smaller. If i did it today i would go with 9-10 "

I have mine at about 9in, no problem.

I use a really tightly hung net behind the screen, attached at the sides with ball bungees. Screen itself is actually pretty tight these days too, but I've tried loose and tight and it makes no difference - it's the really tight net which makes it work.

I don't use a mattress topper behind, although I used one for a while. it was a bit too heavy and tended to bow down the steel which I use at the top to support everything (it's 1in EMT, I would go for 1-1/4in if I did it again). I'm thinking of putting up some moving blankets behind it if I can come up with a cunning plan to support them from the angle iron on the sides rather than the EMT at the top.

I agree. Great vid of sound and bounce. I plan on doing some form of "layering" (screen, net, final buffer) to replicate nice quiet, low bounce situation.
