  • Ohio Sim Build - Phase 1 Complete

First let me begin by saying thank you to the members of this forum for answering questions and for posting so much information that helped me start my build. The goal of my first phase was to get an operational practice area in my basement before winter comes. And here in Ohio...winter is coming.

To save time and hassle, I worked with Cory at Par2Pro to design my custom cage and netting. Everything came together flawlessly. I also went with the Truestrike hitting mat. My “finishing touch” was to add some cheap indoor/outdoor carpet to help contain golf balls from rolling all over the basement. Going to try to add a pic below.

For the launch monitor, I chose the Flightscope Xi Tour. I wanted the ball and club data, the flexibility of home or range practice, and I liked having the unit behind the shot so I don’t have to worry as much about it taking a a shot from one of my kids. I have been functional for a couple days now and it’s been great. The setup was easy, and the shot data has been similar to what I see in real life.

Phase two, is going to be getting the shots projected on a hitting screen (thank you DB). Still shopping for the projector. The final phase may be to look at adding sim option (without putting of course). Sim putting doesn’t do it for me, so I’m ok with that.

Anyways, wanted to say thank you.

Well done on Phase 1. If you're like a lot of us on this site you may run into extra "phases" and/or "sub-phases" as you go. Enjoy the journey!

Haha, I believe it. I will have to slow the pace down, or I will phase myself broke.

Looks awesome. What are your dimensions? Height, distance to screen and distance to FS.

Thank you. My screen is 12’ x 9’6” (had to fit underneath ventilation in top right corner). I am set up right now 10’- 11’ from screen and 10’ from FS.

Looks good man. The only thing I would add is boarding to the wall joists so you don’t get a miss hit shot rocketing back at you.

Right. That’s one of those “sub-phase” things that cspin was talking about. Thinking about maybe a curtain. Still looking at options.

                Outstanding and thanks for sharing!!

I have something similar being developed in my basement and will post a similar thread to seek input and comments.

Looks like you have about 10' of height to the bottom of the floor joists?

Are you using regular indoor or short indoor mode on the FS? I've got an X2 and working on building a place to use it. Trying to decide if I go with a 24-25' room or just cut it down to around 20' and use short indoor mode. My swing speed is very low 100s so I don't think I'll have any issues with capturing 2 full revs off my driver, but I do like the idea of being able to track a few more feet of flight.

I went ahead and backed my hitting area up to 13’ because I had the room available, so I am using the regular indoor mode. The only club that was giving me misreads in either mode was my 3wd, but I don’t think that had anything to do with it, but it has improved with more distance to the screen.

You are correct that I had 10 ft from floor to joist, but I would have lost 1-2 ft of width if I did the full height due to the ventilation pipes.
