  • Backyard Golf Shed Build Underway

I bought a GCQuad about 6 months ago and have barely used it. Well, after lots of debating with myself and a little with the other adult in the household I decided to pull the trigger. This has partially been sold as a office for myself so will need to make that work as well. Anyway, over the coming months I'll post pics of the build as it progresses.

I plan to order a screen, border, and TrueStrike mat from Par2Pro. The shed will have 10' ceilings but screen will be 16x9 so just less than 8' tall. That works well for me since I need to mount ceiling speakers above the screen and will protect them with a net. I'm probably going to get a cheaper turf surface as putting isn't that important to me at this time and can always build it in later. I've got the new TH671ST projector waiting in a box.

This room will also be used for movies so I'm getting 3 Invisa HTR 7000 in ceiling speakers and 2 Invisa MPX speakers for the rear. The beauty of those front in ceiling speakers is they are angled just about perfectly to send sound to ear level at about 12' away. https://www.goldenear.com/products/invisa-series. These will be powered by a Yamaha receiver I just picked up from Costco which went on sale Monday. Also, picked up a 32" monitor from Costco for less than $300 last week.

The big outstanding question is what I'm doing for heating and cooling but leaning towards a mini split heat pump since I'm in a mild climate in Western Washington.

I'll be following this closely as it is something I'd love to do over here in the UK.
its bloody freezing at the mo and 2 kids under 3 really limits range time!

Sorry for the pics sideways and upside down. Open correctly on my Mac but not showing properly in forum. Anyway, framing is near completion and wiring is halfway complete. I should have pics in a few more days once siding is complete. I can't get anyone to install the roof for a couple weeks so build is moving slower than I'd like.

Looks like a fun build and I'm sure you can't wait for it to be complete. Just a quick note, I ended up getting a mini split heat pump (Mitsubishi) installed in my garage to cover the heating/cooling. Even though I'm in MN, I still went w/ the heat pump rather than just a gas heater as I wanted both heating/cooling. So far, the heating is handling the winter weather just fine. It supposed to get below zero over the next week so it will really be put to the test. The unit I got is rated down to -14F.

Anyways, good luck w/ the build.

Looks great. Are you planning on insulting the walls and ceiling? One of the split units would probably work well, especially if you place it near the central area that people will be hovering around.

I am insulating it and putting up some drywall but will probably be another month before it’s done. I’m still on the fence with the split as I’ve already dumped a pretty penny into this. Probably going to start with a convection Heater and window AC unit. My wife called it the Taj Mahal of sheds and not in a good way as she thinks it’s nicer than the house.

You can also get a small propane heater. Probably much cheaper than an electric resistance heater.

Very nice progress so far! I’m currently building mine in one bay of our garage, but would like to build a dedicated space in the near future.

I’m also in W. Washington (Kenmore), any issues with permits or anything? When I was originally looking City of Kenmore required permits for anything over 200 sq. Ft. Ideally I’d like to build 16’x20’... so it’s a bit beyond 200 so. Ft. I’m tempted to just start building and see if any neighbors complain.

Yes there will be problems with permits if you try and get them for over 200 sq feet and I believe that’s gross floor area not external dimensions. I’m building mine to code but not pulling permits except I got my sub panel permitted. Siding started going up today so due for another picture tomorrow. Interior won’t be done for a month or more. I built it where I could easily tear down the 5’ x 10’ popout if necessary. It would take away a space to sit but still have room to easily swing a club.

Still a work in progress but 90% complete with build. Quick look at the new screen from Par2Pro. I haven't hit balls into it yet but the picture quality for movies is very good. Just need to put some turf over my DriCore floor and I'll be about done.

How load in the Dricore when a ball drops down? Thanks

I'll assume you mean loud... If so, then it's quiet. Loudest sound is hitting the screen but the Par2Pro screen is pretty quiet as well. For me the Dricore was a great choice because it has some "R" value for insulating me from the concrete slab and it's only 1" thick so losing little headroom. My hitting surface is a putting green and I cut out the dricore and put in it's place the gel pad from a TrueStrike mat.
