Carl Screen Question.

I just purchased a Carl Screen from amazon for my simulator I am building and have a few questions. Just a FYI i went with the 10x13

1. I have read some people just secure the top and bottom. I want it tight and to look good but i never want to have to worry about a ball coming back at me. Is there a best practice for this?
2. How far away should i place my mat from a 10x13 screen?
3. If i use recommendations from question 2 do i need to get side netting? I would like to think even the worse shank would still hit that big of screen.

I have the lowest end screen from Carl's. Mine is 10x14 and I secured the top with tarp clips and bungees and the sides with tarp clips and zip ties. Mine is fairly tight(no wrinkles) and I never have a ball come back at me. I hit from about 9' away from the screen. I'd say 8-12' from the screen is normal. I don't use side netting, as there is no way I could hit the side walls.

stuss02 I went the same screen route as you. Bungees up top attached with tarp clips, a couple on each side to keep the wrinkles out. A little bit of bounce back but never anything that was more than a slow trickle back towards my feet. You can always put a moving blanket behind the screen to deaden the shot even more.
Speaking from experience...you probably want at least a bit of netting to come out from the screen(or blackout curtains). I am talking just a few feet. I am not a scratch golfer, nor am I just a hack...happy medium. But there is always that one missed shot that goes screaming dead right that will catch you off guard. Also, the lob wedge can get pretty high pretty quick so you might want to have something up top to protect your ceiling. The other thing to remember is, you might have friends/family over who might not be too good or you have a couple extra adult beverages, they grip, rip...ooops...did that just implant into your drywall or bounce off a stud and go past my head at the speed of light? Some people go without the extra netting or curtains...i prefer to err on the side of caution since drywall repair is not in my wheelhouse.

Thanks for the advice I was considering adding blackout curtains on each side. Im still trying to decided what to do on the ceiling. Its a 10 foot ceiling and its in a garage so its just got plywood for a ceiling currently. Not worried about it getting damaged but the speed of light redirect does scare me a bit.

I have seen some folks attach the padded flooring for kids, the foam ones that have the alphabet and numbers in them, to their ceiling and then just put up a curtain to cover them. That way the shot is deadened a bit after hitting it. You could also use the anti fatigue matting from tractor supply if you don't have any of the kid mats laying around.

I dunno about your overall skill level or the skill level of any guest who may be playing with you but I would strongly recommend a side net or curtain. IRL my handicap is around a 5-7 and on Sim it’s I think a +2-3 and I’ve literally hit the edge of my GC2 case twice with a bad shank. It’s happened both times on the first swings of the day where I’m loosening up. I’m no pro by any means but my point is, the body likes to kinda do crazy stuff sometimes and depending what you have in the line of Fire in garage.....you could cause some serious damage. For whatever reason it always seems like a shank comes off the club about 387MPH. 😀

I put some empty boxes, on my right side of screen, the boxes are all destroyed by errant shots...
