  • Simulator Build Part Deux!

A number of years ago I installed a simulator in our basement. The enclosure was purchased from Cory at Par2Pro. It serviced us well...until my son passed his old man in height. The ceiling in our basement is 8 ft. At 5'5" I could actually swing a driver down their. My son started hitting the ceiling with a 5 iron on occasion this past Spring. What to do?

My wife actually suggested moving it to our Great Room upstairs. (Yes, I am a lucky guy!) Since this was going to be in a main living area, I decided to custom build my own enclosure which would fit in with our Mission / Arts & Crafts decor. Additionally, since it was going to be much larger (almost 14' wide screen size vs. 12' wide), the normal round EMT wouldn't really work and 2" square tubing is a bit more pricey.

Note that the electronics portion has stayed the same: GC2 w/HMT.

We use this much more now for dual use...lots of sim use, but lots of TV as well, especially sporting events.

I tried uploading the pictures in a logical order, but it didn't work too well. So the description for each photo starts with a #. #0 is a picture of the old basement sim, and 1 - 9 are for the new build with completion following the # sequence.

Finally, credit to Cory at Par2Pro for the screen and screen boarder / screen padding. Great job as usual. Screen is HQ2.
