  • Loop-fabric for side-panels and screen trim?

I am looking for DIY options for blackout side-panels and for screen trim.

I have found a few different types of velcro fabric. My thinking is to put velcro strips on the EMT frame to attach this fabric on the sides and top. I will also be using it for screen trim to cover up the bungees.

No impact protection...but for looks I think it will work.

    2 different options from industrialwebbing.com

hook receiptive fabric, VELTEX, TEMPO, display fabric

The Akastiq place has swatches for sale, so I have ordered one. The other options would require buying at least a yard...which I may do just to test them all out.

i glued a 2in wide strip of this to my screen as the fluffy side of Velcro. Then glued the hook side of Velcro to the back on the 2ft wide piece left and attached it to screen. It worked out awesome. I used Fabri-Tac glue.

I ended up ordering 16oz Commando Cloth for the blackout material to wrap the enclosure.

CCS's 16oz commando cloth is an ideal fabric for stage curtains and blackout drapes. Offered in a variety of color and size options. Flame retardant.

I think I will try using this for the screen trim:

Boat trailer replacement carpet. 8" or 12" wide by 12 foot long for $20

For anyone that finds this later: I bought this stuff and it's great. Menards actually cut it to my specifications and I just had to attach it. I cost me a whole $8 for a 12x9 screen.

What do you think of the commando cloth. Is it thick/tight enough to block light and stop the occasional shank?

It will block light for sure. Like 99% opaque.

I have only seen a small sample, so I cant say for sure about shanks. But I am doubling up the sides of the enclosure. I will have heavy blackout curtains on the sides, and then a layer of commando cloth. I think that will be plenty to stop shanks.

The commando cloth is coming next week, I will post some more pics when its installed.

I got the commando cloth today. It is probably thick enough to stop shanks, but I already had blackout curtains on the sides and will feel more comfortable with both the blackout curtains and the commando cloth. For the top of the cage, I will just have 1 layer of commando cloth.

There are different weights of commando cloth / duvetyne. I bought the 16oz, and have a sample of the 12oz. I would not go any lighter than 16oz. Its thick enough that a super bright flashlight only penetrates it a little bit (pin-pricks of light). It will be very good for controlling reflections from the projector.

I bought raw commando cloth from Chicago Canvas. They also have finished commando cloth curtains, but the sizes were not what I needed (and custom ordered sizes were double the price). The raw material has somewhat ragged edges, but not too bad.

I am happy with it, its going to make the enclosure look really good.

Reviving this old post... cooke23 quick question if you dont mind, I'm wondering how the Fabri Tac glue held up over time.. curious if I'll need something stronger than that to attach side curtains to my screen with velcro... trying to avoid sewing!

              Any advice appreciated

I'm just shopping for Commando cloth for my enclosure and would appreciate feedback for anybody that has it installed. Also looking for ideas on padding around the screen frame. Having trouble finding stuff that is reasonably priced.
